as a dj who works closely with really amazing chefs in niagara on the lake, i find this pretty inspiring.

I respect Ali, Deep Dish broke lots of boundaries very early, but he reinvented himself in terms of techno (somewhat) and explored new paths.
The comments about this being very burgeoise/middle-class are valid, but newsflash - DJs like Dubfire are big earners so it's not really any surprise he's into good food, wine, living, etc. It's what comes out of the speakers that matters.
I've heard some of his DJ sets and they are really good - his productions a bit less so. I'd like to see him and Sharam getting back to producing together, I think they have the chemistry to create real magic, even if I wasn't into the last few years of Deep Dish.

c'mon, don't be so harsh on them :) he is clearly just passionate about cooking & eating and needs a different activity to relax besides djing and producing music all day! enter sake tastes REALLY good and can be considered as an art if you think about how much effort he put in... and the idea with the fake roses probably came from his chef'-friend ;-)

I have always said I thought there was a real resonance between cooking and music composition, it's not bullshit... Like understanding synthesis and sound construction at a base level is very much like understanding the baseline flavour groups.... Sour, Salty, Sweet, Bitter, Spicey.... Sawtooth, Pulse, Triangle, Sine. Ingredients are like wavetables perhaps, with varitions on all those base flavours... Spices & Herbs are like adding harmonics in with distortion or enhancment. You could probably say all the different ways of cooking things are like the filter & compressor types, again adding their own complexities to the flavours as temperature is added. Plating up a beautiful looking & tasting dish and choosing what goes where in a mixdown to make it sound lush are again totally comparable. Haters gonna hate man, I like the way he thinks about sound.
