To everybody arguing about the chess: Jordan is correct. The map maker must have simply forgot that the king has the power to remove other pieces in a 1 tile vicinity, so the king could have taken the bishop and been fine. That is the white's only move with the king.

+Charlie Sainsbury That would be even worse than what DoctorWalrus stated since then black would have no king and therefore would have already lost, so I doubt that that was the mistake that the mapmaker made.
This is a really late comment lol but the Knight should be one space to the left so it can protect the bishop therefore checkmating the king because it would be taken if it took the bishop
Or the queen takes the rook then the king moves back one
I was literally crying when he wasnt't using the night vision. Night vision helps underwater, if you used it, it would be much nicer to watch and wouldn't be the worst.

Jardon, you were missing something super obvious on the chess... The King could have gone diagonally forward to the right and been safe, if you hadn't put the pawn where you did.

The pawn had nothing to do with the king's position, even if it moves 2 spaces
The king was in check because wherever he moved he could get killed but I agree that pawn had nothing to do with it

That water maze was physically painful to watch, haha. Shame he didn't try drinking the potion; it would have let him see quite clearly through the water, making the maze way easier.

Man I subbed to Jardon back when Minecraft first took TH-cam by storm, and now, getting back into Minecraft years later, he's still one of my favorites.
(Most others have either changed their branding, stopped all together or I grew out of them, so it's nice that no matter when Jordan uploads, I'm always entertained C: -yes I know this video is years old, his new content is also great-)

I got MineCraft a few weeks ago and beat it in 5 days and as my reward i watched every episode made by CaptainSparklez.
U would have won if u moved it up two. Any where the King would move after that, u would be able to get him. If the king moved back, the rook would have gotten him. If the king moved right or left the bishop would be able to get the king. So technically u had already won without moving the pond

the chess thing is the king cant move INTO danger, so the pawn removes all the kings possible moves, winning in princible, but the king still is not in danger.

Stalemate is when both players don't have anymore moves left. You checked him by locking him in place. The king couldn't move anymore so he had to give up.
U only need stone pick for lapiz
But it would be much easier if the creator did that
If you used stone, it wouldn't work for this map. You're in adventure mode for it, and when you throw the item on the ground, it changes the entitydata so you can actually do stuff with it (Can't place furnace and Crafting Table till thrown on ground) and it does the same with the pick, it scans for an Iron Pickaxe, changes the data so it can mine Lapis, then when you pick it up, you can finish the room ;)

as soon as you beat the barrier block part I just imagined there being a wall of barrier blocks blocking that little hall, and you walking in to them as soon as you bad mouthed the maze.

well in the lapis part, I just want to mention, you don't NEED an iron pick to break lapis, you can use a stone one to break it.
I believe your goal of the chess puzzle was to entrap the white king so the following move will guarantee checkmate.
Chest: "...I've been holding that forever!"
Me: **thinks of going to the toilet** Uhhhh... *awkward...*
rook blocked the king from going backwards, bishop blocked it moving left or right, the knight blocked it going diagonal - down right, and the pawn blocked bottom left diagonal, which resulted in checkmate :)
The king couldn't move backwards at all due to the rook and can't move left or right because of the bishop. That knight is preventing it from moving forward to the left and when you place the pawn there it prevents him from moving forward right, thus putting him in checkmate.
Alrighty, I'm gonna try and clear up the chess part.
The king was in check. He could not move back either straight back or diaganol left/right back because the rook had those spots covered. If he had moved directly to his left or right, he would have been taken by the bishop. If he had stolen the bishop, the knight would have stolen him. His only safe spot without that pawn down would have been (when facing the way you did) diaganol down for him onto the brown. You check-mated him correctly by placing the pawn one up because then the pawn would have stolen him. All 8 squares he could have moved were now covered or going to be covered by black pieces. Yay. :D
Actually, if you look at around 7:30, you can see his bishop WASN'T covered by anything, meaning the king could've taken it. Also, the king wasn't in check, he was just surrounded.
Captain, in the chess game... You were preventing the king to move, he had no space to go to when you put the pawn there.
For the chess thing.... if he moves back, back left, or back right... rook gets him. Foward (no one gets him... weird) Foward Left, knight gets him, foward right, pawn will get him
Jordan may be a Captain, however in my eyes... He'll always be the King of Dead-ends.
Jordan the rook covered 3 places behind the king, the pawn can go diagonal and cover that place, the knight had the other side

By having a king unable to move, and being unable to protect the king with any pieces, the opponent is forced to forfeit the game.

A stalemate is only achieved if the king is unable to move and has no other pieces on the board or has performed the same 2 moves 3 times in a row either by force or voluntarily. However if any of these conditions are met with pieces remaining it results in a remediate loss and not a stalemate

If the king moved in any direction he would be in check mate. You had to make that possible by placing the pawn in the right place.
Sparklez, the night vision helps you see through the water and the barrier maze had the solution on the ceiling.
On the chess game, if the Pawn was not there the white king could have moved diagonal to its right, everywhere else the king could have been taken out (Bishop on the Kings left and right, Knight on the front left, and Rook on all three behind him) and by placing the pawn there he could not go that way because the Pawn jumps diagonally.

That chess part was so frustrating but it's ok Jardon, not everyone is good at chess
The Chess thing is kinda weird... you're supposed to place the pawn so that the king can't move anywhere... but the king can just eat the bishop and it won't be a checkmate anymore...
Basically
The rook covers the 3 upper squares
The knight covers the square at the far right down square
The pawn covers the far left down square
And the bishop covers the two squares to the right of the King
But the king can just eat the bishop and it won't work
Placing the pawn there would stop the white king from moving anywhere but there were no black pieces on the board that could hit the white king where it was and because the white player still had other pieces to move, that chess game was definitely not finished.

Jordan you fool. The king can move in any space. One block at a time. If he moves behind diagonal the rook takes him. If he moves front diagonal the bishop takes him and the knight with take him. And yes I felt the need to clarify this
Face plamed so hard. The king doesn't have to be in check to go into check mate. You definitely won by putting the pawn there. You just didn't look very carfully. The only spot the king could move to be safe was diagonally from where you put te pawn, so by putting the pawn there you put him in check mate.

I'm pretty sure the king was in danger IF it moved next turn. But I'm sure a player with at least a twig for a brain could just move other pieces.
King can't move anywhere. If he does he gets taken, so he's in checkmate with that pawn

If the king moved back, then it would have been in check by your rook. If it moved to any of the adjacent white spaces, it would have been in check by your bishop. If it moved forward, capturing the bishop, it would have been in check by your knight. And if it moved diagonally forward either way it would have been in check by your knight or your pawn.

Regarding the Chess game... I... can't see why that was the end of the game. The King didn't have to move and he could comfortably take your bishop, whilst his queen could take your rook and then... well, I don't understand the win.

I think the black knight is *supposed* to be one space further than it is so it can protect the bishop and the block to the right (from your side) of the King. It definitely wasn't check mate, though
Imagine how awful the water over lava maze would be in real life! I, personally, would die very quickly as I suck at swimming. Even for a really good swimmer it would be nigh impossible as the water pressure pushes you down towards the lava.. argh! I feel like it should be in one of those movies where people die in weird ways.

the pawn had to go on the quartz infront of the one u placed it on because that meant if the king went left he would be taken by the pawn, to the right taken by the Bishop, back one taken by the rook, diagonal right taken by the knight.
I don't think Jordan noticed that the redstone lamps on the roof were supposed to be a guide

The map creator screwed up on the chessboard. First off the white king isn't in check because no piece could take the white king so thus the white king doesn't even have to move. Second the white king could just take the black bishop.

The chess part is when u put the pawn down where u did, the knight can kill the king of the king moves to the left and the bishop can kill the king of the king goes right... I may be wrong

jordan, by placing the pawn there, you did not check mate him, you just made it so he was unable to move his king anywere
but yea... they can get out of that really easily
the reason he's checked is because the king can't move to the side or the plan will get him and if he moves back the rook will get him and if he move the other side the pawn will also get him
The king can't put itself in check so the only place it could've moved was the spot you blocked by putting the pawn where you did
