NOTE FROM TED: "This talk contains graphic details of animal torture and only reflects the speaker's personal views." What part of what Alex said can't be backed up through countless examples? The denalism regarding how we treat animal life is truly shocking to witness, particularly coming from an organization that prides itself on empiric thought. Thanks to Alex for bringing some reason to Ted.
Everyone should listen to this speech. It seems like most people who call themselves animal lovers only continue to buy animal products because they are unaware of the cruelty or just haven’t thought about it. If they listened to a talk like this or watched factory farm footage, they would more than likely want to change ✌️
It was revealed a long time ago what hot dogs are made from, yet that didn't stop anyone from continuing to eat them. We've known for decades that smoking is bad, but people still continue to buy cigarettes. We know that processed foods and fast food restaurants are unhealthy, yet they are thriving businesses. It's nice to think we can change people's minds with words, but that's just illusory. It's one thing to WANT to change, but that isn't always possible or practical.
@@glenjennett I agree with you that there are some people out there that will never change despite being shown the cruel reality... However that does not mean that no one will change. The vegan movement has grown significantly over the past decade and if it continues to do so, one day there may be a majority vegan population and that's all that is necessary to enact legislation to give animals fundamental rights. It's not gonna happen in my lifetime but the change is definitely possible.

This is a copy of my comments which I posted in your Cosmic Sceptic youtube video. Hi Alex I've got news for you. I don't think you realise that you have a higher level of human consciousness. According to the anceint Yogic or Vedic writings , which are more tha 10,000 years old, humans have evolved not only biologically but are also evolving CONSCIOUSLY ( with greater level of awreness, greater degree of insight and intuition) . On the other hand the great majority of humans are trapped and languishing in the lowest level of human consciousness , the "fight or flight" or animal consciousness. The signs that you you are more evolved and have a higher level of consciousness , is your CONSCIENCE, COMPASSION AND EMPATHY, not only in regard to human suffering but also other life forms too. When it comes to theists, particularly the people of the Abrahamic faiths , the Christians, Muslims and Jews they are all self-absorbed and self centred, devoid of any conscience, compassion and empathy , the most important attributes that set fully fledged decent human beings apart from the rest of the animals. They seem to find bliss in blindness, apathy and wilful ignorance.
I don't consider humans to have a "higher level" of consciousness. What does that even mean? Animals are just as conscious as humans are, some maybe more so. Just because we are different species, doesn't mean anything as far as consciousness is concerned. In my opinion, everything is as conscious as is necessary. Animals are aware of their surroundings, just as humans are. Animals make decisions, feel pain, display adversity towards suffering, have an instinct to survive, just as humans do. We are not so different from animals as many people believe.
This aged well

At least they acknowledge that it's animal torture.
It's a consideration to do with legal liability (lawsuits). That's all.
