I'd say it's one of the best. I don't think there's one and only the best anime of all times - but there's always the best anime that you need the most at the moment. Haikyuu never fails to help me face a hard time in my life - and that's priceless.
I got recommended this anime by a friend with the following statement "It's like Slam Dunk, but about volleyball and not like Slam Dunk". I laughed and laughed until I watched it and I understood what he meant, I was completely hooked. It's also reminds me of my favourite anime of all time, Hajime no Ippo, which is honest and as realistic as an anime can really be if it's about sports. This, like HnI, made me care about the rivals, even to the point that some made legitimately root for the antagonist of the fight (in this case match), made me care about the secondary characters and specially the protagonist and his ultimate goal. This video explains, with better words, exactly why I think Haikyuu, and by consequence Hajime no Ippo and Slam Dunk, should be on anyone's radar.
I am so happy you made this video. All my friends are into this show and I have never seen the hype. Now I guess I have to give it a go with this Stellar recommendation.
So, after I watched this video, I went ahead and watched all of haikyu. This is one of my favorite animes of all time great recommendation so glad I am subscribed to this channel thank you keep it up!
I never took much of an interest in haikyuu because I have no interest in sports animes but I knew it was popular. I finally got around to watching it recently and got so immersed in the story. This video PERFECTLY describes how I feel about it to the core.
Haikyuu is the sports anime for people who don't watch sports anime. I went in without any expectations and it made me laugh and cry, totally unthinkable when I started watching. I've been a fan ever since.
@@victorcapote7376 I haven't started on Haikyuu yet because I have a bunch of shows in rotation this season. My plan is to start on Ace Of The Diamond in the Spring and watch Haikyuu in the Summer. Right now I'm watching Ahiru No Sora and its a pretty good sports anime.
Instantly subscribed after watching this. You were able to explain everything I love about the show and more. Made me want to rewatch it all over again. Your channel is criminally underrated, but I get the feeling you’ll stand out real soon!
Tears in my eyes gah. Also those little inserts were SO NICE! This was beautiful perfectly putting together my feelings for Haikyuu into words. Wonderful stuff Joe
What a freaking vid. Took the words right out of my mouth about episode 16. Such a crazy flip of the perspective of the show and how we see the main characters from that point on. I really hope when the main story wraps up, we get a spin-off that is just about the girls team!
Beyond Ghibli there's an old volleyball anime called Attacker You! that came out in the 80s. It was very popular in European countries, including France, where I come from, where it's called "Jeanne et Serge". It's a little more romance but the main character is a girl on her new team. I'd recommend it if you are able view it, plus it would be cool to see the differences between the two volleyball anime of about 30 years apart
Reading the current manga arc is just the culmination of all this. It's mind-blowingly good. Every new chapter gets me absurdly excited, seeing how far Hinata has come now that he has reached the summit in this final, incredible arc.
Just need to capture this line, "Furudate proves, time-and-time again, their ability to introduce a character and get you to care about them within a few pages is unparalleled. And then, proceeds to emotionally punish us for doing so." Yeah. For me, I ended up loving each and everyone of them. I had a desire to learn more about them. What were their stories? What kind of experiences they had? Even down to, what they were like in their daily lives? Because each one felt tangible. Human. They all felt like someone we know in our lives and you can't help but want to cheer them on!
I've been severely depressed and full of anxiety for a while now. Haikyuu gave me happiness when I thought I would never feel it again. Even then, the threat of feeling joy only for it to end severely spiked my anxiety. What with an uncertain future because of the virus, and regrets that I could've done more in highschool before it ended so early... The first two minutes and thirty seconds of this video help lift me from that mindset. I don't know why, but they do. I didn't focus on just one thing through school. I focused on many and did exceptional through them all. So I don't need to hold such regret and distort my memories because of fear. Thank you for this video honestly, it helps.
so glad you covered this! I've binged the whole show last week and couldn't stop thinking about anything else since..it's been a while since I've watched a show that had such an impact on me. I'm not a sports anime fan either but funnily enough, one of my all time favorites (Ping Pong The Animation) is also from that genre
I started watching Haikyuu!! while the last quarter of its first season was still airing. I didn't know anything about volleyball at the time, but I did watch some sports anime. I saw a few clips of Hinata, and it was his resolve that pulled me in. I saw a kid who was fighting for a dream with everything he had, absolutely everything. and like you said: it made me care. I was rooting for him before I knew anything about him. this video is a fantastic love letter to a series that deserves it so much. you're very right about the reason why they fight being more important than actual winning. it's something that too many action-oriented stories (anime or otherwise) seem to miss. I also never expected to care so much for the rivals and opponents, yet found myself tearing up when some of them lost. the Seijoh 3rd years' final match is the most memorable example for me. thank you for this awesome video. the editing, music, script - all of it is fantastic. I'm going to send this to anyone I recommend Haikyuu!! to in the future; it really shows everything I love about the series.
This video convinced me to watch Haikyuu -- and now I've gone and watched it 8x (each time shepherding another friend along the path, of course). Whenever I catch a quiet moment, I always come back to this video. Your soothing, unhurried narration, tasteful video editing, and great soundtrack selection make this such a treat to watch. Thanks so much for making this :) Please keep up the good work!
came back to this video after three years, and it still encapsulates how I feel about this anime. It's really up there. I can't even count how many times I shed tears while watching some of the most gripping episodes until the latest season, and while reading the manga to finish-up the unanimated parts. It made me become interested, heck, even obsessed about volleyball - a sport I did not care much until recently, some 5-7 years ago.
Truly an inspiring anime, in all most every Volleyball tutorial there are people referencing Haikyuu, I’ve really seen no other anime inspire and influence people to want to engage in a sport like Haikyuu.
I love Haikyuu, i used to play volleyball in school and that might be a bias, but I LOVE HAIKYUU!! Sports anime are the purest form of shounen and it really saddens me that some people turn away from such phenomenal shows just because it's a 'sport anime'. Amazing video today, i love this channel and it's slowly becoming one of my favorites on this platform. I especially am a big fan of your narration. Keep up the good work
Before I didn't really get why Haikyuu!! was so loved. At first I thought the anime was overly exaggerated by the hype but one day on Netflix I had nothing else to do and then I watched. I never wanted to slap myself harder. It was ultimately a great anime and I for one who was never into sports made me genuinely interested. This video bassicaly summarised all the good points that had me hooked on the series and am eagerly waiting for season four. With the manga wrapped up I'm itching to read it after the anime closes which is a long tedious wait I know but I'm willing to.
This is an absolute masterful video about an anime that I am absolutely obsessed with. A friend recommended Haikyuu to me back in July and I was hesitant to give it a try since it was in the sports genre. I couldn't have been more surprised if I tried to be. The character narratives in Haikyuu are some of the best that I have ever since in any television show that I have ever watched. Over the course of 3 and half seasons, I have come to care as much about the members of Nekoma, Aoba Johsai, and Fukurodani as much as Karasuno, that's how good the characterization is in this series. Your video expertly explains just about every aspect of Haikyuu that makes it so special to me, bravo!
If you think haikyuu is great, then my god does it means so much more if you play volleyball as well. From attending the beginners classes 8 years ago to playing 4 times a week now with my volleyball club and friends, I’m so glad to have haikyuu complement my volleyball experience along the way. Season 1 Hinata was very relatable, I wanted to play volleyball but there was no one to play it with but thanks to Haikyuu, the interest in volleyball has spiked and the community has grown immensely. Unlike some, I’ll never be dismissive of those who only picked it up after watching the anime. I’m just grateful that the story about high school volleyball boys was compelling enough to encourage more people to play the game.
you perfectly explained why I absolutely love haikyuu with god tier editing (and minimal spoilers!!! extra thank you!!) 👍 also, thank you for mentioning the stage plays!! they're so good and it deserves wayyyy more attention
This was a great review and editing, Joe. I hope Slam Dunk is produced again so that we can listen to your thoughts about the best of what Sports Shonen has to offer.
I had only heard about Haikyuu!! in passing, nothing that would make me want to watch it amongst the plethora of good content available right now. But your video piqued my interest, at a time when I was lacking focus and direction you spoke about a show that characters make up for what I needed in spades. And I can't thank you enough for it. Over the past week, I've seen all 3 seasons of Haikyuu!! and I've caught up to the 4th. It's the best! I love these characters and their stories and I can't wait to see what happens next! So thank you for making this video, you showed me what is now one of my all time favourites, a Rocky movie as an ensemble to inspire and motivate me and also make laugh. Thank you!
Wow, I never expected to see you make a video about Haikyuu!! What a pleasant surprise! This is my favorite anime, and it makes me so happy knowing that more people will give this show a chance after watching your video. Thanks so much for your hard work! You put my love for Haikyuu into words ((:
I personally only care for three sports anime. Slam Dunk, Ping Pong the Animations and this one. That shows just how good this anime is! As always excellent video. Thanks!
World Class video, really. I have been searching for SOMEONE who can articulate (even, just a little) why I love Haikyuu! as much as I do. I mean, it's battling Hunter x Hunter as my all-time favorite anime. Thank you for sharing your perspective and your effort in producing this video. I am truly thankful TH-cam provides a platform for such talented people. Bravo!
The line in 14:09 is so real, in fact if you pay attention the 1st season cuts the matches between episodes. You'd think they would organize the matches to fit within each episode but not at all. That is because as it states here, the result barely matters, what matters is the characters and their stories.

Thanks for covering this! You captured the heart of the writing and character development so well! I just got into it last year because I needed something to fill the void between BNHA seasons, but it's been a fantastic series in its own right. I'm so glad I got into it just before the 4th season is due to come out. The hiatus between 3 and 4 would have been painful.
The thing that I really love about channels like yours, is how you perceive/look at things in certain anime. You help to convey those feelings and put thoughts into words in ways that I tend to find difficult to do so myself. Nothing is perfect, taste is subjective and everyone has their own perception of things...so of course some people would just find something like Haikyu and other series to be nothing special, mediocre, overrated or etc. Because of this, I tend to watch videos or some people/channels and the way they seem to see things, even “nitpicking” if you will, often just feels so different from what I appreciate from the series in question. Thus, I find myself disagreeing about many things with them. However with certain channels/people...it just clicks I feel more connected to these people, like I am more so on the same page as them, I see things similarly as them And that’s why I appreciate them and value their thoughts and recommendations on things more than others. Of course I will still disagree or think differently about some things, but as a whole I feel like I am more liked minded with these people So I just wanted to say thank you, because your content is another one of those few channels that I feel more connected with
I originally discovered Haikyuu long past its end for its cool Shonen animation. How I never found it earlier, I will never know. While the charm of the show led me to continue the series, I think a big part that kept me going was the stories seen and lessons learned from opposing teams. I found myself in deep reflection, learning more about myself and of others. Those, in my opinion, are the best anime; the ones which straddle the line between creating engagement and introspection. Great video, as always, I'm surprised I missed this one.
Haikyuu!! taught me more life lessons than any other. Whether it's about personal life, work, family, you name it. There's something that can be picked up here. If you haven't seen it yet, please give it a try.
Dang, I find it amazing that exactly at the day I watch some of your older videos after a while again you had to upload a new one ... I bet you can't imagine how suprised and happy I was when I saw it hahah. I'm happy to see you did a video about one of my most favourite Animes, great work by the way! :) I never was much into sports before Haikyuu, I never could understand or relate why people were amazed by (different kinds of) sports until I watched this great piece. I mean, I'm still not much into sports, but after watching this I could at least understand it a bit and it helped me to grow a little fascination for volleyball. Anyway, I just love this Anime, its characters, setting, and animation. I was so damn amazed the first time I watched it, feeling this incredible excitement I don't find in many other shows. Sometimes I wish I could delete my memory about a certain movie or series just so I could relive these moments, feeling this incredible fascination and amazement. It'll never be the same after the first time of watching it, but I guess I'll still love it for a long time for the emotions it invoked in me back then. Soo, thanks once again for your work! Maybe it's too abstract to explain my emotions, at least I can't really put them well into words, or maybe they're too abstract to really understand them, but your videos are so incredibly touching and interesting to watch. Hope you realize how your work is influencing (at least some of) your viewers. It really is a pleasure to watch your videos from time to time. I'll definitely share your video(s) to some of my friends, hope they'll be amazed by this show, and maybe find a new great TH-camr to watch for the future aswell ;)

same
I got recommended this anime by a friend with the following statement "It's like Slam Dunk, but about volleyball and not like Slam Dunk".
This is the David Attenborough of anime
Totally agreed! 😂
Well said
Watching that ad like that was incredibly satisfying.
Ikr
Exactly!!
Aaah this makes it all worth it :)
Wow!!
I know it has been a month already, but that how far are you in Haikyu!
@@victorcapote7376 I've been caught up since I posted this!
the wholesomeness in all seasons is no joke
Came here from Trash taste. This was beautiful. Every reason why I love haikyuu was "documented" beautifully and the editing was godly
I never took much of an interest in haikyuu because I have no interest in sports animes but I knew it was popular. I finally got around to watching it recently and got so immersed in the story. This video PERFECTLY describes how I feel about it to the core.
your description for haikyuu was really beautiful... it made me emotional...
I never thought about watching Haikyuu until I watched this video. Thank You So Much!!! Sports anime needs more love from the community.
Haikyuu is the sports anime for people who don't watch sports anime. I went in without any expectations and it made me laugh and cry, totally unthinkable when I started watching. I've been a fan ever since.
AddaeAkono It’s been a month already, but how far are you in Haikyu!
AddaeAkono Got it.
This made me want to rewatch Haikyuu even though the 4th season is airing rn :")
3rd season ending song and clip are my favourite by far. That clip means so much to me
What a freaking vid. Took the words right out of my mouth about episode 16. Such a crazy flip of the perspective of the show and how we see the main characters from that point on. I really hope when the main story wraps up, we get a spin-off that is just about the girls team!
That would be so cool!!
You put it perfectly into words. I love these boys with all my heart. That’s why we watch again and again. Each player is unique yet grounded.
Just need to capture this line,
"Furudate proves, time-and-time again, their ability to introduce a character and get you to care about them within a few pages is unparalleled. And then, proceeds to emotionally punish us for doing so."
Yeah.
Fuck man I haven't cried experiencing something about haikyuu ever since the manga ended. Man you've reminded me why I love this show beyond any other
I cried my eyes out too 💔
I've been severely depressed and full of anxiety for a while now.
Winnners and Losers had me crying my eyes out.
you have such way with words, it's touching.
Talking about anime but with animal planet narration level.
came back to this video after three years, and it still encapsulates how I feel about this anime.
I’ve watched this 3 or 4 times and every time I tear up. Beyond Ghibli deserves more recognition in the anime TH-cam community. And way more views.
I’m just grateful that the story about high school volleyball boys was compelling enough to encourage more people to play the game.
you perfectly explained why I absolutely love haikyuu with god tier editing (and minimal spoilers!!! extra thank you!!) 👍
also, thank you for mentioning the stage plays!! they're so good and it deserves wayyyy more attention
you made me cry.
the way you put into words the feelings we get when we see haikyuu are awesome
thank you so much for this!
the way this man say about Haikyuu is just beautiful
This was a great review and editing, Joe. I hope Slam Dunk is produced again so that we can listen to your thoughts about the best of what Sports Shonen has to offer.
Jesus tap dancing Christ, I've never felt so emotional at the beginning of a video essay before...BRAVO, SIR
Thanks!
man that scene in haikyu when they show the side of player who lost in the game make me cry
how does this only have 64k views. this 15 minute video gave me as many chills as the actual show did. brilliant. absolutely brilliant.
Bravo!
The editing of the video makes this seem like a documentary. Kudos ❤
The line in 14:09 is so real, in fact if you pay attention the 1st season cuts the matches between episodes. You'd think they would organize the matches to fit within each episode but not at all. That is because as it states here, the result barely matters, what matters is the characters and their stories.
This video deserves hundreds of thousands of views!!
Joe I'm Jitez. I had been watching every video of your channel i love your voice and the way you narrate total beauty of selected anime content.
Man! I love Beyond Ghibli please promise us that you will never stop making videos..
I skipped this one when it came out, never been a spots anime fan, but I'll definitely give it a shot.
You won't regret it!!! one of the BEST sports anime - heck one of the BEST anime that I always absolutely recommend
Its so good! I love it. My absolute favorite and good timing, the 4th season just started!
It’s been a month already. How far are you in Haikyu!
@@victorcapote7376 haven't started it yet lol I'm saving it for when we have a shitty anime season. Spring is looking like not a lot of cool stuff is coming out
Ryan C What do you mean by that? Is it when we have a bad season for Haikyu! ? If you are trying to say that, then you are wron.
Oh look there goes another 2 weeks of my life to an anime recommended from this channel
I’ve showed this video to so many people and rewatched it on my own on several occasions ugh I love this one so much~
Man thank you for putting me on so many anime that I went and watched after seeing your videos. This is another one of them. Keep up the great work
Just finished the four seasons and was looking for some commentary. This was magnificent. Thank you!
this editing is GOD TIER !!! AMAZING video brb gonna go rewatch haikyuu for the 62827th time
Okay, this is such an underrated video. Really. This deserves much more.
Amazing script, breathtaking scenes and soothing voice. This video was asmr for my brain.
ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE TH-cam CHANNEL I EVER SEEN
4:12 sound design and editing is on point
I watched this video as it came out in January 2020. I just finished the fourth season of Haikyuu - and this video had my tear up at 1:22 . Thanks for being here, Beyond Ghibli, and putting my feelings in words.
The editing and overall production is so flawless... I really wish I could donate more than just $1 to your patreon, but unfortunately that's I all I can afford due to Brazil's current economic situation. Haikyuu!! is just such a masterpiece, you've really captured it's essence in this video, I deeply thank you for this :)
Hey don't worry about that! Thank YOU for the dollar, it all helps so much!! Glad you liked the video :)
That transition about halfway through, that was so cooool!!
the way you described and analyzed haikyuu made me strangely emotional
Thanks for covering this! You captured the heart of the writing and character development so well! I just got into it last year because I needed something to fill the void between BNHA seasons, but it's been a fantastic series in its own right. I'm so glad I got into it just before the 4th season is due to come out. The hiatus between 3 and 4 would have been painful.
This is my favorite Haikuu explainer. Nice work!
However with certain channels/people...it just clicks
I feel more connected to these people, like I am more so on the same page as them, I see things similarly as them
And that’s why I appreciate them and value their thoughts and recommendations on things more than others.
Of course I will still disagree or think differently about some things, but as a whole I feel like I am more liked minded with these people
So I just wanted to say thank you, because your content is another one of those few channels that I feel more connected with
The editing of this video does the series justice. It made me care (see what i did there). Love the video and I love the series
Wow...I’ve loved this anime for such a long time and you brought out exactly what I was thinking. Great Video!
Excellent. Loved that you mentioned "Winners & Losers" because that is a stellar episode.
Haikyuu!! taught me more life lessons than any other. Whether it's about personal life, work, family, you name it. There's something that can be picked up here.
If you haven't seen it yet, please give it a try.
Me too! I dare to say it changed me ❤️
10/10 editing as always, can't believe I missed this video but glad it was on my recommended. needed this today, thanks
Beyond Ghibli: "So private that this was the only footage I could find of them."
Miura: "Pathetic."
The part where you said there isn't villains in Haikyuu. Just team that we don't watch closely. Gosh!!! 😭
Dang, I find it amazing that exactly at the day I watch some of your older videos after a while again you had to upload a new one ... I bet you can't imagine how suprised and happy I was when I saw it hahah.
I'm happy to see you did a video about one of my most favourite Animes, great work by the way! :)
I never was much into sports before Haikyuu, I never could understand or relate why people were amazed by (different kinds of) sports until I watched this great piece.
Thank you Sev! So glad my work has resonated with you like that. It's the aim of this channel :>
@@BeyondGhibli Haha guess that's true. A
Hello. I just want to express how after many years of searching in the amazing world of anime and manga. I found someone who, with honesty and depth is taking me on adveture. Once again. To find new worlds of my conclusions and inspires to continue searching. Thank you. Very much.
6:53 NOOO WAY YOU DID THAT! That is PERFECTION!
I can't stop watching this video. It's just so amazing and inspirational. Congrats for such a video.
The way you start every one of your videos is absolutely beautiful
Started playing volleyball because of haikyuu. Needless to say im a pretty good middle blocker with dreams of going to nationals!!!
Thanks a lot for your video and I also absolutely love haikyuu, its one of these rare animes that I really watch again and again and I feel I never get tired of, because its just so beautiful.
I can wholeheartedly recommend, if you havent already did a video on this - Kaze ga Tsuyoku Futeiru - man.. this really hit so many spots that also haikyuu hit, just way more compressed. It still gave so much inside into every character in such a short amount of time. It always amazes me, how much I cared for them in the end. Besides, I love running myself in private, so this might have clicked for me even more. Shed a tear to your awesome snippets. Haikyuu is love. lol.
Your editing is super good! I don’t even need to know English well to understand the topic, because the audiovisual narrative speaks for itself! This video is looks like a very emotional mini-episode of Haikyuu especially with these animated transitions in the middle! Thank you so much! Definitely it’s one of the best videos I’ve ever seen! Very glad to become one of your subscribers! :)
Awesome! Editing. It really made me love Haikyu even more.
the facts that he made the animation at like 6:48 shows he cares about his video
This was really amazing! Your narrative was riveting, smooth and calming. I just got hooked from the moment you started describing each action. Been a Haikyuu fan since 2014 and your explanation was truly captivating..
You make videos that i want to keep close to the heart, they are sooooooo perfect
I love anime and I play volleyball, so when I heard about this anime, I just had to jump in. And boy is it great and also quite realistic. But the other reason I love Haikyuu is because of how they make it sooo accessible to those that don't like sports or volleyball. Oh! And this was BEAUTIFUL!
4:15 subscribed. Already like video essays on this show lol but that beat timing with the edit... oh damn that was good.
I'm so happy you made a video about haikyuu bc I really feel like you nailed why this show has had me hooked for so long!
If i havent already loved haikyuu, watching this video would definitely make me wanna watch it. Perfectly written, narrated and edited. Gave me goosebumps the whole time Im watching.
