Silver all the way. Makes your bike stand out from everything else out there. Turns it into mobile art. Once a month, get the polish out and it never looks old.
Good pointers for mixing and matching. I’m currently doing a silver build but it’s a little harder to find silver components (compared to black). So I am mixing. I’m also finding some components to be more expensive in silver.
there's really no problem stripping the paint and polishing it, or painting silver those black parts you already have if you're not looking for a ready-made solution
I'm always on team silver. All silver, no mixing. As you said, silver components look classy and elegant. But I disagree on one point: to me, they look *_more_* serious than black, not less. Also, as someone else commented here, black components look cheap to me. It's just my opinion though, don't get mad at me :)
I like when lugs and frame are in contrasting colors. As for me, that lilac color is just too bland for chromed lugs, they don't stand out. Darker frame (e.g. Navy blue, even with sparkles) would be perfect background on which chromed lugs would just pop out. Or darker tones of red. Definitely not white or yellow....
I was gonna pickup the black wabi special with chromed lugs but don’t need it and saving up my money for my dream grail frame which is an custom NJS Samson frame
I think black components look best when paired with a bright colored frame (orange, lime green, sky blue, etc) And silver components are best paired with neutral colors (navy blue, olive green, etc)
Zach! I'm still hoping you'll make a Reasonably Dangerous cycling cap! I know I'm not the only one that'd buy one. Anyone reading this, please like this comment or reply to show interest.
SUCH AN IMPORTANT TOPIC when bike building especially if you're a steel bike gang member. I have steel bikes that rock all classy silver, a mix, and have had all black and it does make or break your build. Sometimes it works beautifully, and other times it can make the bike look gross. But in the end, it'l always be a big NO for any carbon fiber components for me lol steel and aluminum only 👊
Silver components are anodized as well, just without dye. Anodization involves a complex chemical process that creates microscopic holes in the aluminum's surface, then it is soaked in a bath incorporating a dye selected from those with a particle size small enough to fit in those holes. That's why there's only a limited number of anodization colors. After the bath, a controlled layer of aluminum oxide is grown over it to seal the dye in. Aluminum oxide is very VERY hard (it's used to make common sandpaper) but it can still be worn away, especially if chemicals are involved. Non-anodized alu, or anodized alu whose coating has failed, often get an uneven, cloudy/powdery look to them as the new oxide layer is... uneven.
Huh no kidding, I never thought about what exactly anodization meant. Me simple brain see fancy big word on better looking components and cost more and say, shut up and take my money!
@@B_COOPER Different parts manufacturers will also do the anodization process differently, there's different types of it. The resulting layer can be "hard anodized" to be abrasion-resistant, thick and hard-wearing but I don't know if any bike parts manufacturers do that.
Great video and beautiful bike! Would love to see it in black. I’ve had great luck with all my NJS frames from NJS Export that come with Hatta R9400 BBs.
That is a beautiful build I get it. I like the “rubbed” honest wear on black but DO NOT LIKE the fact that the black coating or anodization fades. I do prefer the polished look. My dream bike would be a vintage polished lugged Colnago with late 80s Campi Record group set .
My single speed, frame and forks are high gloss black. with red side wall wheels. Looks mean & lean - black cranks & chain ring & black wheel hubs/spokes/ black handlebar. Looks slick, slicker than a greasy pig.
gumwall tires, carbon rims with silver low count aero spokes and silver or carbon/silver hubs, silver seatpost-stem-handlebar (better if titanium), silver cranks with silver or black chainring or black cranks with silver only chainring, silver or silver/black chain.
Wow!!! What a great bike! This is a sick bike. You maxed out the fixie points in this one. What happen to Pete? I'll miss Pete. You have to do a "Goodbye Special" to Pete. He's a great bike.
Hey, Zach Could You please put together a ride here in Sacramento, I live in citrus heights and would love to meet some other builders and riders. In the area I'm not riding a fixed gear bike at the moment, I don't think it matters fixed or gears. I appreciate all builds. Thank you for your videos your halerious and very informative. Have a good day!
Zach, suggestion for another video - matching color of rims, hubs and spokes. S-S-S, B-S-B, B-B-S etc. Other colors than S and B. Mixing color of S and B spokes to retain 32 spokes but make wheels looking like having less spokes?
My frame set is chromoly full raw and all my component are black on black I fuking love look sik and I don have anyone of the problem that you said ! And are more offers of black component 😅
Not me eating purple potatoes and watching this video, And Yes, It has Ube color similarities. Also me, Chainring silver, cranks black, Wheelset, black, green tread tires, purple handlebar, Black seatpost and silver stem with a silver rack. 🤣🤣
For me it's black for aluminum frames, and silver for steel ones. The silver underlines the elegancy of a steel frame with it's thin tubes, while the black matches well with more modern and racing-looking aluminum frames(and they're usually the ones to have carbon fibre parts too). Black can still go well with steel depending on the frame color, but there ain't no way i'm ever building an aluminum frame with silver components.
After watching your vids for years I’m finally going to buy a wabi special next month and I cannot wait!
Silver all the way. Makes your bike stand out from everything else out there. Turns it into mobile art. Once a month, get the polish out and it never looks old.
I like what you did at 9:02 with your left eye coming through the bottom bracket, really tickled my OCD in a nice way :)
As a Nigerian I was hyped about the Ube choice as well we love those things 😂
Old school thin steel frame plain color with polished aliminum and cream ring on tire sides. Unbeatable. Classy and long lasting.
I like hearing someone talking about their bike that they love.
Good pointers for mixing and matching. I’m currently doing a silver build but it’s a little harder to find silver components (compared to black). So I am mixing. I’m also finding some components to be more expensive in silver.
I’m not sure if you’re looking for fixed/track specific but retro-gression is a good place for that.
there's really no problem stripping the paint and polishing it, or painting silver those black parts you already have if you're not looking for a ready-made solution
THE VID ICE BEEN WAITIN FOR

Love the chromed lugs! Also love the black and silver combos. Althoughhhhhh I think the seat post could be silver to balance the awesome black saddle…

Darker frame (e.g. Navy blue, even with sparkles) would be perfect background on which chromed lugs would just pop out. Or darker tones of red. Definitely not white or yellow....
I got a dark blue bike with chromed lugs on the head tube, rainbow sparkle paint. All silver components except for black wheels, bartape, and saddle.
Also the yellow steel look with chromed lugs looks pretty slick
♥ dark blue bike with chromed lugs ♥
True
That purple frame is glowing 😍
My steel rig is a blavk Fuji from 88, so I went with silver everything and it looks so much better- and those lugs are dope ❤
Dude... that "ube-purple" fixie bike is really elegantly beautiful... safe ride always...
I was gonna pickup the black wabi special with chromed lugs but don’t need it and saving up my money for my dream grail frame which is an custom NJS Samson frame
I wish I bought that frame instead of an e-bike kit. If brakes are death, than an e-bike is purgatory.
You hate your e bike that much?
Those bikes 🤤
much love and support from Philippines ❤️
Very Nice bikes!🎉 Greetings from Guatemala!🤟🏽✨
Looks like I missed out again.
A dollar short and a day late.
I’ll have to catch the next train.
They sold out already?
@@sonymicronin size 52,55,58 sold out for purple, size 58,60 sold out for black. It is between 10-25 for each size or less unsure.
Regarding scuffs on your seatpost. Have the seat tube honed to get any sharp edges or burrs inside the frame.
I think black components look best when paired with a bright colored frame (orange, lime green, sky blue, etc) And silver components are best paired with neutral colors (navy blue, olive green, etc)
I always love a mix of both
Zach! I'm still hoping you'll make a Reasonably Dangerous cycling cap! I know I'm not the only one that'd buy one. Anyone reading this, please like this comment or reply to show interest.
With the chrome lugs, it would be baller if you have silver headset stem and bars. Along with seatpost crankset and wheel set.
UBE! 🔥🔥🔥
Zach I can tell you have a good taste in music. Where do you get all your music for your videos?

The music during the build it awesome. Who is the artist?
Nice choice on the BB!
Sick build !!! Safe travels

👍🏼
Can’t you just polish it yourself?
have you ever tried sunrace sealed bearing bb ? its way more durable its 21st cenury man

Silver twill CF exists. I had some like 10 years ago for knife scales...
Love chrome lugs! What are your thoughts on black vs. silver chains?
Omg where can I get that Ube Purple bike!?
Awesome subject to talk about👍
gumwall tires, carbon rims with silver low count aero spokes and silver or carbon/silver hubs, silver seatpost-stem-handlebar (better if titanium), silver cranks with silver or black chainring or black cranks with silver only chainring, silver or silver/black chain.
Hey dude, do you know what's the name of a Handlebar that's under the stem and in between the fork? I saw it from Wind Breaker, Nagase Hyouma's Bike.
I am tempted to build a Lightning frame, I just hate the drill holes on the brake bridge for the rear.
Drill only if you want it SS....
That crank at 2:08 needs to tighten their bolt down. That shit not even flush
is the frame bigs or the wheels just small?
Wow!!! What a great bike! This is a sick bike. You maxed out the fixie points in this one. What happen to Pete? I'll miss Pete. You have to do a "Goodbye Special" to Pete. He's a great bike.
Seems like a missed opportunity not calling your bike "Perry Winkle" that's pretty much the color of the bike
Bro.. I got sad when b roll stopped.... I'm gonna buy one. Single speed though for my use. Bad ass
Jeeze that bike is sick

My Pompino has one silver crank and one black crank. They are also different lengths.

Mixing color of S and B spokes to retain 32 spokes but make wheels looking like having less spokes?
Do you have any opinions about those really fancy track bikes?
I will +1 the mixing of black and silver.
Just copped the wabi cycle lugged special frame, waiting on response so I can pay $650 more for a full build. Can’t wait :)
Ended up spending 4k gee gee
mix silver and black. The special special is hot! I hope they ship it to Korea.
They will but shipping is $200 cause of taxes and shipping
Black components. It's a very clean and low-key look.
Hey Zach, what bottle cages are those?
Punta ka Pinas?
Lets go Ube 🔥🔥🔥💜💜💜
Please make a video. To talk about Phil wood parts please
There is silver weave carbon fiber! I'm not sure which material to make the silver cloth.
Mithril it is.
I work hard for my bike’s scratches and dents 😎
I just watched an 18 minute ad… and I liked it! Lmfao
Yeah, it made me buy it in black :P
music was fire in this one
Whats the tire clearance on the wabi special or special special? I can't find anything on the site
700x32. See frequently asked questions.
@@JasonG.32 thank! feels like something that could just be on the spec list, if it’s a frequently asked question.
GAWWWD DAMN that thing is so pretty
LETS GOOOO ZACH POSTED THE NEW WABI SPECIAL!!!🙌🏻
hi really nice build
Are trek bikes good?
Yes
No. And everyone that rides them seems to be a wanker
My frame set is chromoly full raw and all my component are black on black I fuking love look sik and I don have anyone of the problem that you said ! And are more offers of black component 😅
silver is beautiful
well shit if I was in the market I would have picked one up. UBE FILIPINOS STAND UP lol
damm that black sparkle thooo, i dont need anymore bikesss
Awesome :)
I think Zach really did see how we Pinoys proudly react to almost anything related to us. LOL
Think I spotted whats up with your BB.
YEAAHH UBE 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭that's us that's us!😂
For me, there must be a bit of silver somewhere, always.
just swap to sugino direct drive - modern sealed bb and all pain is gone
Black and silver mixed looks lovely. Always draws the eye.
UBEEEEE🔥🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽
Ube Purple 🔥🇵🇭
Ube Purple 😮
Lezgooo Ube!!!!
Japan has a word for "beausage."
It's called wabi-sabi.
Hi, can I get the pete, pete is like my dream bike 😍
Honestly like Pete better than his new bike because imo sparkle paint > chrome lugs, although I prefer the shade of purple on the new bike tho.
Looks like your bike got his first tax return and got that bling blang
Not me eating purple potatoes and watching this video, And Yes, It has Ube color similarities.
Also me,
Chainring silver, cranks black, Wheelset, black, green tread tires, purple handlebar, Black seatpost and silver stem with a silver rack. 🤣🤣
Match your bar tape and pedals, of course 😊
only purple, only style!
EYYYY FILIPINO MENTIONED!! RAHHHH!!!
Uy sarap ube! Gumawa na rin kayo ng leche flan
please switch headsets to silver the black looks sooo bad with the chrome lugs
everything is chrome in the future
I am that Filipino in the comments section. THATS USS WHOOO
Black components hide themselves and the beauty of the design.
Yurrrr
For me it's black for aluminum frames, and silver for steel ones. The silver underlines the elegancy of a steel frame with it's thin tubes, while the black matches well with more modern and racing-looking aluminum frames(and they're usually the ones to have carbon fibre parts too). Nah im not biking with u. U sneeze next to me and next thing you know im rolling on the road like i jumped out a car.
there is actually ube shortage in the Philippines right now so... yeah this is limited LMAO
