I was born in Hamlet N.C. and my Daddy's Uncle (My Great Uncle) was married to a Lumbee. They raised tobacco in Fayetteville N.C... She had about 12 kids , cooked on a woodfired stove and her Sunday dinner's were legendary.. Fresh killed chicken ( I watched her ring there necks and cook them). Also the "Clan" came to Rockingham and burned a "Cross" near the airport there around 1958. I really enjoyed this program. Thank-you Mrs Lowery for your hard work on the Lumbee history !!!
I am a white man whose father was a missionary, social worker and anthropology teacher who lived in Clinton & Smithfield NC in the 60s. I hung out extensively with Lumbees as a boy around a potbelly stove in a Locklear house. Especially living in Clinton, our family was shunned for this association. Having studied these Indian origins and having as a high school freshman walked the cornfields examining relics, tobacco pipes, pottery, spearheads, etc., I have concluded that these dear folks are a mixture of Tuscarora, Croatan, Scotch, African American and a whole bunch of others (like blue-eyed English Roanoke survivors). I do not believe these dear folks have a common tribal heritage. They do, however, have a strong and beautiful culture.
The Lumbee are of tri-racial ancestry most being a primary mix of Northern-European and African. DNA tests are proving this. Lumbee have an average of 2-3% NA DNA. The simple fact is that most are bi-racial. The Lumbee, Pee Dee, Waccamaw, Cheraw, Saponi, etc., are descended from tri-racial isolates.
Meet me I would show you why you don't speak on what you don't know my DNA shows more than half of this land and my dad's Jewish! So don't make fake claims. Your living on my peoples land so be careful! We might not save you!
I am here because I have a lumbee friend here in south carolina
