Rewatching Marineford is just begging for depression, but I always come back to it. Even in some of the most recent episodes, we get more and more backstory that makes it all the more heartbreaking.

It's a testament to Oda's writing and the talents of anime creators that they're able to make many of us feel so much for a character that we were just introduced to. One Piece is really special.

Some people would say that Whitebeard is risking all his children just to save Ace, but that is not it. Whitebeard is going to go save his son even if nobody goes with him, and no one there is going to leave their father go fight the marines alone. Thats a family god damn it, for their brother and their father they will fight to the bitter end.
This whole Arc is a depression fest, it sets up pretty much 75% of the future happenings in One Piece. I hope he prepared himself.

the Whitebeard Pirates are pure souls, they arent crewmates in each other's eyes, they are family, and they would sooner die then let their family members die alone. and Whitebeard is the purest of them all, a shining beacon of the new world, he's a pirate that i could look up to as much as Luffy.
