The problem with politics is that it's become simply a career option for some people, rather than a cause they believe in. Get a Politics degree from a top university, get a job in the office of an MP, and after a few years get parachuted into a winnable seat. That then opens the door to non-executive directorship seats on the boards of several companies - a few days work showing up at board meetings, and each company pays you a salary that most people have to live on for a whole year, and that's on top of your MP's pay ! After serving as an MP for only a couple of terms, retire from Parliament with a full MP's pension, take on a couple more non-executive directorships, and you and your children are made for life. You can afford to have them privately schooled, so they in turn will get into the best universities and fall into the top jobs. Easy peasy !
Factory worker in China get poorly paid ?? 800 million brought out of poverty in the last 30 years in China. 90 % own their own property. 90 % happy with their situation; Chinese see their lives improving. Now compare with us in the civilised " Rules Based Order ruled by the master Mafia state USA to which we are all its vassels in Europe😂
My first bike was back in 1970, l was a 12 year old and my dad told me it was a second hand bike that he hand painted and put together himself. My dad was a Motor Mechanic and was never short of a few bob 😊 I was gutted cause my best mate was getting a brand new bike and he'd show me pictures of this new bike every day. The pair of us would sit together looking at the New Bikes in he's mums Catalogue, he was getting a blue 18ins Triumph and l wanted the Red 18ins Triumph but my dad said it was way too expensive and he would sort me out with good reliable second hand bike. Come Christmas Eve, 🎄 l was totally gutted 😢 and my eldest sister "l had 3 sisters and 2 older brothers " told me to stop crying because dad was only having a laugh and it was a new bike because she had seen it. Im almost 67 now and this story breaks my heart to this day. I went to bed that Christmas Eve night and woke up to see a Brand New Triumph and my arse is still sore from riding that bike. My best friend Eddie and l rode everywhere on those Triumphs. Dads gone now, so is Eddie and here l am lost in Memories, happy memories 😊
Yours has become my favorite motorcycle channel of late after I graduated from watching Itchy Boots and her death-defying adventures. Though I'm about 10 years your senior in age, it continues to amaze me how we could be "twin brothers from different mothers..". Your philosophizing and general outlook on things eerily matches my own. And, I ride a Guzzi as well as other bikes and had a Himalayan up to about a year ago when a fellow made me an offer I couldn't refuse for it. I've come dangerously close to springing for my own "Norman" as my local RE dealer has a beauty that calls out to me every time I go there. I'm also a photography enthusiast as I believe you have stated you are as well. I'm not a retired cop, so that's where we part in similarity. I enjoy seeing the English countryside during your rides as I've never been to the UK and probably never will at this point. I would be interested in the history of all those stone-lined, narrow roads. How old are they? Are the stone walls for livestock control or what? Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Thank you Dave seems we have much in common. Get that Classic 350 I say. Those walls have been built and rebuilt over hundreds of years mainly to define land and contain livestock
My father fought in North Africa and Italy and was horrified when both his sons worked for German companies in the late 70's, how things change., although his opinion of German's never did. Nice to see how well you did in TAYM's top channels vote, well deserved, just goes to show how your channel is so well received.
My dad too. And when he holidayed abroad in Spain he used to rise early, fold all the German towels up neatly in a pile which had been placed on the sun beds the night before and pull his cap over his eyes as they came out to the pool, pretending to sleep. He never forgave them but then he’d seen an awful lit.
Great stuff as usual Dave. Living in the time of the fair weather rider its cracking to watch you go out and about and hear your take on the modern world. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures it's appreciated.
Politicians who do not represent their people and a democratic system that is neither democratic nor a system, is it any wonder that the UK is in the state it is in? Nice bike and a lovely ride, despite the visibility.
The Billy Connolly quote is one of my long term favourites and so bloomin' true. Smashing ride out again and always a pleasure to hear little Norman trundling about the lanes and byways. Congratulations on your lofty position in TAYM's best yt bike channels survey 2024. You must be doing something right. All the best.
Politics won’t solve our problems the WEF was formed in the early 1970’s and the first I found out about it was in 2020 I am shocked and annoyed at the control they have. But I am a conspiracy theorist apparently 😂
Politicians care about one person only - themselves. I’ve no time for any of them. I won’t say anymore I’ve decided not to rant as a resolution. ( Bet it won’t last long )😂😂 congratulations on second place in TAYMs vote, it shows you have a popular channel now Dave
nice ride out Dave and all the best for the new year! Agree with you on the state of this country and its politicians , all they're bothered about is turning up at the office occasionally and ticking the boxes to get their money , none of them stand for anything of value, they're frightened of saying the wrong thing and losing their seat and thereby their overpaid income .
Wise words my friend ! , it's a great part of motorcycling that one can think clearly out on the open road , and get back to basic's , Happy New Year to you !!
Ha Ha Ha... your story about the Raleigh bike brought back a flood of memories to my 75-year-old mind. When I was a young kid I dreamed of having a Raleigh bike with the 3-speed gearbox in the rear hub. I constantly saw the bike advertised in the back of my Boy Scout Manual in the form of a crude drawing. Finally, one day in my hometown, there was a bike shop where my dad and I saw a used one in black with the gold pin-striping. I still recall my dad paying the $19 asking price for the bike, and it was finally mine! I had to be about 13 years old at the time. I rode the heck out of that bike all the way through my high school days until I finally was old enough to drive a car. When I left home the bike sat neglected in the basement until one day my dad - now in his 60s, I think - dusted it off, got it running again, and could be seen riding it all over town!
100% true. I strongly think that if you took an independent poll of the population in the uk and China then the uk would probably come out as the unhappiest people with their government. They're mostly corrupt and self serving, no matter where you are, and generally the populations are just regular, good people. It's not specific countries I dislike, it's ALL politicians! And who's worst? The countries that don't get the chance to vote or the countries that do? The USA for example! 🤦
Another lovely ride out. Thank you for taking the time to shout out the names of places you pass through. It will be so helpful to those that don't know where you are and can now set a route to visit. I too ride around that area as I live in Harrogate. You probably know it, there is a lovely road which goes up the side of Malham cove, past the Tarn and over the tops, passing through the farm (sometimes have to open the gate) and dropping down to Arncliffe. Maybe a future route which your viewers would enjoy Keep them coming, really enjoy them 👍
Thank you for another great vid ,I must drag mine out of the garage . I actually do agree with your point of view but then I'm from the same age group I think .
Oooo, you cut away from the fog too quickly. That was starting to be eerily interesting! I always enjoy the jaunts on the 350; just the right view and mix of engine sounds. Good ride - even with the weather.
Politically speaking I have to agree with you, the answer, i have no idea. "Not much to see up here" as we see beautiful land scape with stunning light to boot.
Im glad you got out on boxing day Dave. Im itching to get out myself. I get what you say about politicians and totally agree that we (like most of the world)live under an oligarchy. I really really want to cling on to the idea that SOME politicians are basically good, for my own sanity if nothing else. However the old saying that power corrupts is true . Ride safe and happy new year from the busy lake district.
Morning Dave, congratulations on coming 2nd in taym’s YT list😊👍🏻 I believe the problem with society today including our politicians is we’ve lost our morals, nobody cares about being honest or kind it’s all about ‘our selves’ and what ‘we’ can get😞 it’s only as you get older that you realise that money doesn’t make you happy it just gives you choices. Carry on that man Caio for now tat ta👍🏻
Nice one Dave I’d like to have got out to on Boxing Day however the wind was so strong I’d likely have gone into orbit. You obviously enjoy cleaning your bikes which I suppose is half the fun of winter riding along with frozen gonads 😆
Thanks Dave for your time reminiscing about the past. It was a very similar story for me. I was thinking if you have had any experiences of using bicycle repair patches on motorcycle tubes and if it is advisable considering the speed and loading differences between the two machines.
Martin Bell had a stab at representing the people, but the rest just closed ranks and wore him down till he gave up dejected. My father made one good bike for me, out of two expensive ones a rich cousin had cast aside. Had it all thru high school and early years of my apprenticeship, till I got my first motorcycle.
Happy New Year Dave, I enjoyed the reminiscing as always. Like you I recall Atkinson Bike shop on Leeds Road. We lived on Lower Rushton Road in the 60s and I remember one Christmas when my brother and I were treated to two secondhand bikes, total cost being £12 paid for by instalments lol. Joe P
Hi Joe Happy New Year pal all the best. The number of times I’ve walked up and down the Rushtons (we lived Thornbury then Bfd Moor). My old man boozed in the Virginia Tavern. My memories of Leeds Road include Lloyd’s Bank and Tordoff’s Dentist (same building), the Bus Sheds and later a string of pubs including the High Flyer owned by Dave Gashes parents 😁
Absolutely loved that video Dave, especially the political. Everything you said is largely mirrored on the opposite side of the planet, Downunder. I had an identical ride today, but in sunny, body temperature weather on my 350 grey named Lee, because it's an Enfield. Best wishes for Agenda 2025 mate. 🎉😂❤
Correct dave what you say about politics/politicians we are in no position to judge China or others enjoyed the video was out myself on dimple my Enfield 350 over Xmas keep the videos coming nice one.😊
A great little vlog, I tend to agree with the way you put the world to rights… I guess living in Yorkshire makes it a bit easier to tolerate the idiocy of politicians.. one can simply go out into the Dales and life immediately gets better! By the way those electric gloves are excellent…. Much better than my 20 year old electric gloves , I’ve never run the batteries out on a ride!
First, I wish you and yours a very happy new year & safe journeys throughout. You live in a stunning part of our shared country. London it is not. It would take me many hours riding up there as I would be stopping every two miniutes to whip me Hasselblad out ;-) Tempted to grab a "Norman" of my own and ask how do you think he behaves in town at slow speeds and filtering past the 4x4 boxes? Wishing you well.
I think you should have a look at Rupert Lowe of Reform. He gives his parliamentary salary away each month. Actually is making as much of a difference as one man can do within the parliamentary system . Actually is reminiscent of an honourable politician.
Nice ride / video and a common sense chat. Ah! yes the Sturmey Archer three speed hub: that was a proper self contained gearbox but we all wanted ten speed de-railer gears like race bikes had.
How do you find the CEAT tyres performing this time of year? On my Hunter 350 they seem fine in the summer but for me, not convinced this time of year. Not expecting knee sliding capability but they just seem a bit slippery compared to other rubber I've had like Avons for example. Anyway, great vid and glad we can go out as often as we do.
Hi Dave love your streams . Just a quick question for you .Have you ever had problems with the camera mounting to the helmet ?? Please could you demonstrate on how to make sure that you get a good strong mount. Just invested in a new camera and mike set up and want to make sure that i get it right . Happy new year all and Dave please keep the streams coming . 👍👍👍👍
I spent over a year saving with my paper round money to buy a Raleigh Team race Europa as used on the tv stars programme with Kevin Keegan of Liverpool my hero . LOL They was the days .Sunny summers sun burn lol. Cold winters . Deep snow . Power cuts . Schools back then didnt close you just wrapped up. That's what's wrong with our younger generations . Mothered to death . LOL. Us old tougher guys and girls just get on with it . 👍👍👍
I find myself concurring wholly with your political observations. I'm also happy to hear you stating it on your channel, because it makes me feel less isolated due to my opinions. Very best wishes for 2025!
There were 2 moments in the video where the sky was stunning with multiple layers and colors, and the halo effect approaching the tops was beautiful. Too bad you were babbling on about politics. I don’t think you even noticed it. Look, what I think upsets people about china is the perception they don’t play fair with government subsidies to many industries and how they require the companies technologies if they want to sell to china. What differentiates them from other developing nations is they target specific industries to take over and do what they must to succeed. Realistically developed nations are always at a cost disadvantage so there really should be some protections in place for domestic industries for without, we lose our manufacturing capacity and that is a national security problem. But with protections there should be some changes, like eliminating CEO’s earning 400x their average workers wages as a start. See, it’s a shame though because I watch these videos for the beautiful scenery and peace they bring and the politics just destroys that feeling and instead has the opposite effect on me. Best wishes for good health, safe riding and inner peace in this new year.
I had a dark blue Raleigh wayfarer with 3 speed. It replaced the chopper sprayed black with a mirror. They weren't new,we didn't have that sort of money. My dad got me a new Coventry eagle in gold with chrome fork lowers and 10 speed to ride the 7 miles to school. It saved the bus fare. I would have preferred a Norton commando at the time. Nothing to disagree with, it's good to understand that meeting people going the opposite direction is not a deliberate confrontation. It's always going to press that button but you have to learn to switch it off. Generally someone driving a car will know they are hogging the space and causing the problem. Every so often we meet someone who reacts badly to being the cause. Nowt so queer as the entitled. Snoopy gave me an add for a London to Brighton cycle ride in June.
i have more than a handful of friends in China who work in warehouses and distribution, they are all perfectly happy individuals, the same is not said here about my friends in the lower wage sector - funny that
Nice ride! Real country. Read your Bible if you want to know whats goin on in the Middle East Brother. Right now Israel is the champion of the free world with few real friends except God. Cheers from Canada
l can but admire your Yorkshire hardiness getting dressed up to 'Go for a Ride'. Me, on the other hand, I'm in Wimp mode. Regarding the political system in UK ...it's well and truly broken isn't it . Since l no longer have a UK address l can't vote in UK elections, even though I'm still effected by the elected Government, via my pension, rate of exchange, etc! still being an UK citizen......l used to be a EU citizen but Brexit put paid to that.! ...My old passport informed me that l was part of the European Community... Anyway, have a prosperous New Year Dave, l look forward to many more rides across the Dales...
To be fair, that was a narrow road, and he did go slow, although he probably could have done better 🤔 Take a look at these Charlie's I had to deal with, last Autumn! Cars do not realise bikes cannot afford to go off the edge, as - in my case - the drop off to soft boggy tussoks would have had me off the bike in a flash. th-cam.com/users/shortsqu_A6_OllmM?si=itucruBfTn5bSZYC PS..reminds me of my Raleigh Chopper, that tale does. As you say, it puzzled me how Santa got it down that chimney! Best present I ever got. 😊
nice little bike that totally agree nice to ride a small bike to its potential it gives more pleasure .i buy everything for my voge from ali express its the only place that sells it £17 for oil and air filter combo delivered in a week lol. yes were run by oligarks and were fast heading towards chineese style governance and wages but most have not yet figured this out . politician should not be a career they should be selected like jury service for a four year term just my oppinion of course
Reality and commonsense again Dave, I don't vote anymore because there is nobody who represents my views on things as they are now in England. They're all far too soft! Where I live has been destroyed by mass-immigration and biased politics that prioritise foreigners and other faiths over English indigenous people. Like you I have my dog and my bike and that keeps me sane[ish]...! I really love the sound of that little Enfield.
On the matter of politics, I think it's seems to be something to take part in on election day, other than that stay out of it. Little Norman is looking and sounding very nice. One of those colours you can't resist and sticks with you never loosing it's magic, just like the bike you were gifted at Christmas as a kid.
I could not live in a country where you cannot call the president or dictator an idiot in public without going to jail. To me that means no liberty or freedom of speech. I would agree that we are fast going that way ourselves and soon we won't be able to say boo to a goose ourselves. After all we are just the play things off the rich.
How come your Classic is called Norman .My Royal Enfield is called Norman cos he's a Hunter 350, hence Norman Hunter legendary Leeds Utd football player/thug! from the Don Revie days
Good video but disagree with you complaining about the rangerover, as a fellow biker i would have stopped at 18:12 , in the video you could have easily waited there , instead accused the car driver of going to fast
Steady doesn’t always mean slow I meant careful as in attentive. What you didn’t see was the speed of approach to me because that was edited out (because there was a child in the front seat)
Brilliant Dave! Yes the West thinks it should export our perfect democracy to the rest of the world, the majority of these places are happy with the systems theyve got. Oh and that rangey driver... 🫢🫣
Cheers Sean yes there has always been a media and establishment fuelled arrogance concerning the supposed superiority of our systems and ways of life….just because it’s occasionally good for us doesn’t mean it’s coveted elsewhere….all the best buddy….Himalayan 750! Woohoo…maybe 😂
Happy New Year Dave, I enjoyed the reminiscing as always. Like you I recall Atkins Bike shop on Leeds Road. We lived on Lower Rushton Road in the 60s and I remember one Christmas when my brother and I were treated to two secondhand bikes, total cost being £12 paid for by instalments lol. Joe P

Totally correct. They all have their eyes on the job round the corner so won’t ever piss off the oligarchs

Agree, UK has a strange democracy. When MP,s are voted in, they go a pledge alegence to the King, not their constituency.
The Billy Connolly quote is one of my long term favourites and so bloomin' true. Smashing ride out again and always a pleasure to hear little Norman trundling about the lanes and byways. Thanks for the ride Dave. Great video! You are appreciated.
Everyone remembers Thatcher being a nightmare but it was Tony Blair and his new labour that really caused the decline in our green and pleasant land.
Maggie right royally screwed us….Blair didn’t have the bottle to put any of it right 😎👍🏻

Nice video Dave. I remember Atkins bike shop well, had a few bikes from there back in the 60s. He used to sell pellets for air rifle/ pistols too.
Ah yes he did I remember that now. Amazing how the memories come flooding back
Hi Dave lovely ride out mate , bloody hell that was a tight squeeze , take care

Same here in Oz, too. 😒
We have the best political system in the world. FOR THEM.
Many thanks for that, great scenery, great stories and observations, and a couple of "Bellends" thrown in for good measure 😊

Cheers Ian glad you like the gloves 👍🏻
First, I wish you and yours a very happy new year & safe journeys throughout.
You live in a stunning part of our shared country. London it is not. It would take me many hours riding up there as I would be stopping every two miniutes to whip me Hasselblad out ;-)
Tempted to grab a "Norman" of my own and ask how do you think he behaves in town at slow speeds and filtering past the 4x4 boxes? Wishing you well.
Hasselblad….wow that’s top gear 👍🏻
And I thought that was a euphemism for something else!!!😂
I think you should have a look at Rupert Lowe of Reform.
He gives his parliamentary salary away each month.
Actually is making as much of a difference as one man can do within the parliamentary system .
Actually is reminiscent of an honourable politician.
He’s obviously very wealthy if he can do that but a nice gesture….sorry though I’ve no time for them…all talk and no talent like the rest 😂
I’m not on Ceats they’re Mitas 50/50 tyres….excellent
Hi Dave love your streams . Just a quick question for you .Have you ever had problems with the camera mounting to the helmet ?? Please could you demonstrate on how to make sure that you get a good strong mount. Just invested in a new camera and mike set up and want to make sure that i get it right . Happy new year all and Dave please keep the streams coming . 👍👍👍👍
Hi yes I must do a quick video on my filming set up 👍🏻
What a bewty ride!
Dave I can’t find your link to the gloves?
I always forget…here it is rideiron.com/?ref=DAVID
those that vote decide nothing. those who count the vote decide everthing . 10 points for whoever gets were that quotes from
Stalin?
Aye, we all need a good chunter now and then.
You could do a video on bike cleaning sometime after your mucky trips
Arncliffe Crag in Littondale, is that right?
All the best for 2025.
I'll be out and about on my 2009 Efi in Airedale and beyond.
No prior to that 😎👍🏻
One of my fave areas that
There were 2 moments in the video where the sky was stunning with multiple layers and colors, and the halo effect approaching the tops was beautiful.
You could always turn the volume down! 😂
Snoopy gave me an add for a London to Brighton cycle ride in June.
i have more than a handful of friends in China who work in warehouses and distribution, they are all perfectly happy individuals, the same is not said here about my friends in the lower wage sector - funny that
Is it me or were you riding a little bit faster than normal ? Loved the journey and views 👍
Fast on a Classic 350? 😎
My 500 bullet think 42/44 mph is fast enough, anything over that feels like warp factor 4 and is not enjoyable 🙃
Hi Dave for the 2nd time had to re subscribe but something or someone is playing AI on me hope you had a lovely Xmas and safe riding for 2025 ..
Cheers Martin and to you pal 😎👍🏻
Love your videos, political parties are chosen we have never had a say 😮
What happened to your V7 ? 🎉❤
Nothing…. she’s alive and well in my garage waiting for spring
Ah yes Brexit….that ruined my post retirement dreams….
@@thebingleywheeler Sorry to hear that Dave.
To be fair, that was a narrow road, and he did go slow, although he probably could have done better 🤔 Take a look at these Charlie's I had to deal with, last Autumn! Cars do not realise bikes cannot afford to go off the edge, as - in my case - the drop off to soft boggy tussoks would have had me off the bike in a flash. th-cam.com/users/shortsqu_A6_OllmM?si=itucruBfTn5bSZYC
PS..reminds me of my Raleigh Chopper, that tale does. As you say, it puzzled me how Santa got it down that chimney! Best present I ever got. 😊
I noticed the “what’s occurring” and wondered what you had been watching on tv…
That expression was in everyday Yorkshire lingo many decades ago 😊👍🏻
nice little bike that totally agree nice to ride a small bike to its potential it gives more pleasure .i buy everything for my voge from ali express its the only place that sells it £17 for oil and air filter combo delivered in a week lol. yes were run by oligarks and were fast heading towards chineese style governance and wages but most have not yet figured this out . politician should not be a career they should be selected like jury service for a four year term just my oppinion of course
TBW 4 PM
Trump is already threatening to muzzle the media! 😒
Yup! Free speech for example....
How come your Classic is called Norman .My Royal Enfield is called Norman cos he's a Hunter 350, hence Norman Hunter legendary Leeds Utd football player/thug! from the Don Revie days
My favourite uncle as a child was a Norman
Good video but disagree with you complaining about the rangerover, as a fellow biker i would have stopped at 18:12 , in the video you could have easily waited there , instead accused the car driver of going to fast
Please point out where I accused him of going too fast?
18:27 saying all he had to do was take it nice and steady round that corner and he would have seen me, implying that he was going to fast
Steady doesn’t always mean slow I meant careful as in attentive. What you didn’t see was the speed of approach to me because that was edited out (because there was a child in the front seat)
politics on a bike channel?? please stop
Thank you for being the moral arbiter on what the Bingley Wheeler is allowed to talk about ...rest smugly.
Bel End? Is that the same as a Nob Jockey. Nowt wrong with China or its products, most of my belongings are made in China.
Not quite 😂
Brilliant Dave! Yes the West thinks it should export our perfect democracy to the rest of the world, the majority of these places are happy with the systems theyve got. Oh and that rangey driver... 🫢🫣
That's why they are all coming over here🤔
Cheers Sean yes there has always been a media and establishment fuelled arrogance concerning the supposed superiority of our systems and ways of life….just because it’s occasionally good for us doesn’t mean it’s coveted elsewhere….all the best buddy….Himalayan 750!
Joe P
Happy new year Joe I remember the Rushtons very well we lived in Thornbury and Bfd Moor 😊
