Just to clarify the format of the FA cup. The teams outside the top 4 tiers have to go into a pre-qualifying tournament to get into round 1. The pre-qualifiers are regionalised (north and south) and follow the usual format of the winner goes through, a draw goes to a replay at the away team’s venue and if the score is still level, it goes to extra time and possibly penalties.
Once it gets to the proper tournament, the draw is completely random and out of a hat so any team could get any of the other remaining teams left. Teams from league 1 and league 2 (tiers 3 and 4) enter at round 1 and teams from the Premier League and Championship (tiers 1 and 2) enter at round 3. Round 3 at the beginning of January is an exciting time for every football fan because there are shocks pretty much every year. For the smaller clubs it’s very important financially too because of the prize money from reaching a particular round, the money from TV coverage and the gate receipts are distributed equally in the FA cup which makes away ties to a big Premier League club the most coveted.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this with us. I wish we had a contest like that in the states.
My 1st match was watching Wrexham v Arsenal in The Kop with my dad. Beating Arsenal was when my love for my home team began ❤️
What an introduction
That's an incredible memory.
I listened to the commentary for these live, the passion the fans had and the energy of the games were unreal
I bet
Wow,,,you guys make watching these videos sooo good , just watched 5 episodes back to back😊
Thank you so much. We are glad that you enjoyed them 😀
Thank you for your reaction videos, i have been enjoying them. And yes, Sheffield got promoted and are currently (2023-2024 season) a premier league team.
Oh wow!
Loving this content, and loving your interest in Wrexham afc. Diolch or galon 👍👍
Great to hear!
@@TouchyReactions still watching, at the mo, half way through. For your information, with regards to the draw, there is only one set of balls in the draw, it's not two sets, eg it could be two lower teams playing against each other or two premier league teams against each other, or any other combination, it's just the luck (or bad luck!) Of the draw 👍
If in the reply, and it's a draw, it goes to penalties, best out of 5. If it's tied after the 5, it goes to sudden death. First to miss a penalty goes out
Just finished watching, thoroughly enjoyed it, just subscribed 👍✊🇺🇲🏴
@@rule-of-thumb thank you so much for sharing all of this with us ❤️. It's nice to know the nuances of the game.
If they tie the 2nd game it will be extra time as you guessed. It will be 2x15 minutes extra. And if it's a tie after that, it goes to penalties
Thank you 😊
Incidentally, clubs win prize money for each stage of the competition. This is this years’ prize fund but I don’t think last year would have been much different:
Extra preliminary round: winners - £1125, losers £375
Preliminary round: winners - £1444, losers £481
First qualifying round winners - £2250, losers £750
Second qualifying round winners - £3375, losers £1125
Third qualifying round winners - £5625, losers £1875
Fourth qualifying round winners - £9375, losers £3125
First round winners - £41,000
Second round winners - £67,000
Third round winners - £105,000
Fourth round winners - £120,000
Fifth round winners - £225,000
Quarter-final winners - £450,000
Semi-final winners - £1,000,000, losers £500,000
Final winners - £2,000,000, losers £1,000,000
Wow, thanks for sharing this with us ❤️
"Once again they escape the bullet by drawing a lower league team" - Arsenal were leading the Premier League when beaten by Wrexham.
Anything can happen.
That must have been some party when they beat Arsenal.
@@TouchyReactions Absolutely. The beauty of the FA Cup...I lived in Exeter for years. Exeter FC had been run into the ground by unscrupulous owners. The owners were later found guilty of financial crimes. Anyways, they were absolutely on the verge of bankruptcy and folding after 100 years of playing.
They were desperately seeking help and there was no-one able to.
They were then drawn in the FA Cup with Manchester United.
They were either non league or in the lowest league at the time. And this was the Manchester United managed by Sir Alex Ferguson. AKA serial winners.
The media rights alone wiped off Exeter FC's debts. Then, they drew 1-1 with Manchester United! This forced a replay at Old Trafford with additional revenue going into the club.
Basically, Exeter FC are still here because of the luck of the draw. Because of the FA Cup. And because they qualified through to the later stages of the Cup as well, to be fair.
@@larryfroot wow, what an awesome story. Thanks for sharing this with us ❤️.
@@TouchyReactions Ti'n croeso fawr! You are most welcome!
Years ago there was no penalty kicks so there would be another replay.
I'm glad they changed it
@TouchyReactions They will eventually change it to no replays. When Wrexham didn't have the financial backing that they have now a replay against a big club can be the difference between a big financial loss or breaking even.
i feel like you need a segment before youve watched where you guess and its okay if you get it wrong... anyway not to tell you want to do... great show.
Guess how the games will end, or the season?
Hi ser. I just want to know that ure wife beautiful mam cendy picture in sb19 vlogs in new york
Thank you 😊 I agree
Regarding your discussion at around 26:30, I believe it's one set of balls. All the names of the clubs who have made it through to the fourth round go into one pot and one club (ball) is picked out at a time. So it can happen that two, top Premier League clubs end up playing each other. It can also happen that Wrexham could have been drawn against a team at the top of the Premier League.
I was at that Sheff Utd game, it was fking mental. Best game of the season for me
Oh wow. What a roller-coaster it was.
The fa Cup is the oldest knockout cup competition in the world.
re the second game, if it had have ended in a draw they would have played 30mins extra-time, if still a draw after that it would have went to penalty's
I'm from Wrexham and this was a difficult episode to watch, as unfortunately during the 1st Sheffield game i slipped and fell in the Turf pub And broke my hip.. fortunately I'm alright now after having it surgically repaired.
Oh my, that had to hurt. I hope you recover well.
You're a Broncos fan? I live near Denver. Although, the only sports team I care about is Wrexham. Fun to see how much you enjoyed the episode. After watching all these matches live, I was really excited to see how the show would present them and I wasn't disappointed. Happy to see it also worked well for people like yourselves who didn't already know the outcome. When the feed went out in the last minute of the Coventry game, I lost my mind! I screamed like someone had stabbed me! Really enjoying your reactions!
Thank you so much 💓 💗. We're glad you enjoyed them 😊.
Great job as usual, good job guys
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing the rules 😀
Glad you're liking our completely muddled idea of the FA Cup. Lol
I paid for the streaming and watched these live. The UK is 6 hours ahead of EST so 11am EST is 5pm in the UK same day. They were amazing football matches to watch and that last game against Sheffield was a pitched battle. I got hooked in during season 1 of Welcome To Wrexham and started following the team so I know where Season 2 is going. No spoilers.
Thanks for not spoiling 🙂
I think there needs to be some clarification of the “rounds” here!
As there were 732 teams entered into the competition, they obviously have to be whittled down pretty drastically. Clubs enter the competition at different times depending on which tier of the pyramid they are in. Remember Wrexham are in Tier 5, the National League, this year.
Firstly, in August, the qualifying competition begins with the “Extra preliminary round” - this comprised of any Tier 10 teams, all Tier 9, and the 96 lowest ranked Tier 8 teams; this round got rid of 208 teams. Later in August the 64 highest ranked Tier 8 teams are added to the competition in the “preliminary round”. In September we get to the “first round” of the qualifying competition, when 88 Tier 7 teams enter, then the “second round” of the qualifying competition with 48 Tier 6 teams added. October sees the third round (no extra teams) and fourth round with 24 Tier 5 teams (including Wrexham) added. If you look at 7:40 in your video, you’ll see Wrexham played Blythe Spartans in this round, and only got through after a replay!
In November we get to the First Round of the FA Cup competition proper, when the 48 Tier 3 and 4 teams (League One and League Two) join in, and the Second Round (again, no extra teams) - you’ll see Wrexham beat Oldham Athletic and Farnborough in these rounds. In the first weekend of January we get to the Third Round which is where the 44 big boys of Tier 1 and 2, the Premier League and the Championship, join in, and this is where Wrexham met Coventry…
Incidentally, the draw for the Fifth Round was done before the replay against Sheffield United, so it was known that the winner would be playing Tottenham Hotspur at home. After the Fifth Round there’s only the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final, so in reaching the Fourth Round Wrexham were in the last 32 teams, from the 732 that started.
Outstanding breakdown. Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this with us. We just love the way things are done over there with regards to football.
Thank for that great explanation. I kinda sorta get it now. Lol
Owners in the dressing room is normally frowned upon
I can understand why.
