    Great to see your dad in fine form. As an aside, my wife and I visited the US a few years back. We drove route 66 from Cali to Indiana. We were so very pleasantly surprised by the manners and respect of so many people we met. TV/movies is not real America.

    Dad loved Studebakers. We had four during my teenage years.
    I learned to drive on a 53 Commander V8 stick shift. Never forgot that car. He even let me cool it up. 3" lowering blocks, spun aluminum Bonneville moon hubcaps, glasspac duel exhaust. I only had my learners permit at the time, but boy that was fun.
    Last one I remember was a 57 Golden Hawk with the Packard V/8 that he bought for 'Mom'.
    Just in time for me to be the head of the "crew." I still consider to be it the first muscle car. Aluminum engine turned dash with Stewart Warner gauges, Golden cream two-tone paint, it was one cool ride.
    Good luck with your project...Loewy Stude's Rock.

    Very cool. I went to my first drag race at Carlsbad Dragway, Calif, in 1964.I owe it to my dad, who never said much about drag racing for taking his 12-year-old son that day. All my life, no matter where I lived or worked, I've always made an effort to promote and race at the local dragstrips.

    This is great. As someone who has owned six Studebakers and presently owns three ( 1941 President 4dr, 1950 Commander 4dr., and 1955 President coupe, all running and on the road) I have to say that I prefer restorations. But what you are doing here is fascinating and truly rewarding.

    • @Calvin-Nelson

    • @andrewnelson3733
      @andrewnelson3733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Over 40+ years I've owned 8 Studes. None of them were good enough to restore. The one in this video was originally a 6 cylinder that someone swapped a 259 into and raced. The story passed onto me from the previous owners was that the car was raced from 1959 into the 60s. I never took the time to chase the details. But there was lettering on the car that was not legible. I enjoy restorations and racers.
