Great video it's nice to now the limitations on wind.

I always watch this site due good flying advice and watching you fly the enstrom, regards Peter

I like this video. In addition to a bumpy ride, a hovering turns manuver or confined space operations might be compromised. I thought you might comment on how the Enstrom's full exposed tailrotor location makes it less susceptible to a critical wind azimuth, compared to the Robinson or Schweitzer. LTE ( Loss of Tailrotor Effectiveness ) during a quartering tailwind, during approach or departure, is less likely in the Enstrom......The unobstructed airflow to the tailrotor blades gives them a more consistent bite from all wind angles.
The BK117, with it's relatively short tailboom, is known as "the vomit comet" when the SAS ( Stability Augmentation System, or autopilot....) isn't working. That stubby design offers less leveraged tailwag resistance when left to the foot finesse of the pilot. In this type of design, gusty winds might be more " uncomfortable" than others.

Training in England has provided me with lots of practise flying in gusting winds, a still day is a rare thing here.

a good rule especially for students 20 kts and under. wind is ur friend but too much makes it rough . but like u said need a few trips in it for practice

    Great video , and
What's the best landing /shut down, angle from wind direction (tail cone strike while rotors decelerates) r22 vs enstrom.

Always point in the wind if there is any doubt

Thanks a million! So, one related question: In an EMS context, how much harder is it when you have a combination of strong winds and blowing snow?

+agentorange153 Thanks for the question! Blowing snow can be extremely dangerous! Loss of visibility of course can be fatal!

At Lahaina the mayor, sheriff, gov said the winds were too high to fly copters and drop water. Offically the winds were 5. Talking heads like the mayor claim 80-85mph, which is bs.

I’ve had a bad bad experience, when in a r22 and had to put in on the ground halfway through my flight, Next to a road that’s the day I learned just say no to the flight it’s better to be at home
