12:33 !! my cousin found out i was collecting bratz dolls & he knew my most wanted doll was bratz twiins roxxi and phoebe. he found them at a garage sale for only 2 bucks and he made it crystal clear he didnt like them at all but only kept it to make me feel jealous. i stopped interacting with him for a bit then I found out he sold them :(
Some people who does this kind of attitude is very disturbing, cruel, very unloving way. It sad how they may be doing this, but don’t worry. You will find these dolls one day to be add in your collection. Patience is the key.
I wish I could mount a video on a wall because it was so perfect. A lot of these tips are things that I wish I had heard when I first started collecting dolls. Especially on the drama and the "collecting for the sake of impressing others".
the money part is super helpful sounding and I agree on how you're saying just get one and dont blow your entire paycheck... the only problem is that I collect 1/3 dolls like Smart dolls and Volks Dollfie Dream dolls so... One is more than my entire paycheck Great video for beginners though! a lot of good advice
I am actually glad that new dolls release so late in the EU. It gives me time to figure out which ones I really love and prevents impulse-buys 😅 My style of collecting is having a quite small collection with dolls that have very pretty or special looks. I love to just look at my dolls (especially the sparkly wings of Winx dolls), it instantly relieves me of stress 😊
I only collect dolls that I really love the aesthetic on or can relate to. I am an OOTB collector and not a completionist at all. I only collect the ones I like because it makes me happy. I am playing favorites all the time and I only end up getting one or two favorite dolls per wave/series most of the time. Mostly, I favor redheads and goth dolls first as a general rule though. It's nice to appreciate the artistic/aesthetic aspects of dolls as well. And there is one 18" Our Generation doll (I know most people don't like them, but I find them more aesthetically pleasing than American Girl) that I am customizing into my favorite Creepypasta character (Pirate Percy from the Candle Cove Creepypasta), and he makes me insanely happy and is like my own child to me. And the feeling of finding a doll that you have been waiting for is amazing. Compared to other collectors, my collection may be smaller, but my Redhead Army (all my redhead dolls) is probably the most vast and impressive part of my collection. As far as LOL OMG goes, I only have 4 of them, and Moonlight BB and Major Lady are the only ones I even look at nowadays (the redhead and goth bias is obvious here). I never understood the point of being a completionist, and I always collect to my specific preferences and intersects.
Same thank you for your comment i can relate I have so many different styles and things that I'm into that I only collect the ones I want for there look or style....I just love the look of rainbow high dolls as well as some miku hatsune figurines and other vocaloids and many more...I love looking at them dressing them up and taking pictures and playing with them is just so fun for me ....but yeah I collect things for this exact same reason.....
This :) I used to be a completionist (Monster High, around 2013-2014-ish) and I got most dolls just for the sake of completing a collection and/or cause other collectors got them (well fomo really). It only made me anxious and stressed out. Later I had to sell almost all of them cause I needed the money. I started collecting again when I were in a better financial situation, making somewhat smarter decisions, but after a while (around 2018-2019) I realized collecting dolls didn't really bring me as much joy as it used to, so I took a break, just keeping a very few select ones. When I found Rainbow High in spring 2021 I fell in love with them almost instantly, they really drew me back in, and RH/SH are now my main focus. I am extremely picky with which ones to get cause I don't want to repeat my past mistakes. The Royal 3 is the only complete set/series I have, otherwise just 1 or 2 from some of the lines. My collection overall is no where near as big as it used to be but I don't care really cause I feel content, I appreciate them a lot more. They feel more special this way and now they truly make me happy. I always been an out of box collector and I live for restyling my dolls to put my own flair to them and now I feel like I can really focus on that.
I just started collecting rainbow high dolls. So far I have 7 dolls. I would love to grow the RH collection. I love all of your videos, how you talk about them, reroot them, ect. I started collecting them because of you, so thank you!! 😁❤️
These were great points. As a middle-aged person who started collecting again at the beginning of this year, I totally agree that it’s good advice to wait for most dolls. It surprises me sometimes how I don’t want a doll anymore several weeks later, after the hype has died down. I think I would add that most people can’t afford or have space for 1000+ dolls, so having a projection of where you are going is a good idea (given the limitation of not knowing exactly what is coming).
I can totally relate especially on when I go to the Doll aisle I feel so anxious and embarrassed as a kid to look at dolls, now that I built confidence and doesn't really care about what others might think about me, the only thing that bothers me is the sales lady who keeps following me 😂
Ugh the sales lady 😑 I'm so tired of being interrogated by cashiers. When I worked retail, I couldn't have cared less what people were buying, I just wanted to go home!
I comeback here everytime I feel unsatisfied on my collection or to boost my confidence that my doll collecting is something to be proud of, honestly this video is "Therapy" and I'm so thankful that you discuss this.
I got into doll collecting recently because of the Bratz re-release, and actively participate in the doll community through reddit. Everyone is pretty decent but there's always going to be that one person who feels the need to spew negatively out of their mouths for no reason other than to be a karen. Just gonna leave this quote here cuz sometimes you just gotta let fools speak for themselves: "Wise Men Speak Because They Have Something To Say; Fools Because They Have To Say Something - Plato."
As someone who has been collecting for years but never spoken to anyone about it until last year, I love meeting people who have just started and seeing how they view dolls and collecting in general. It brings back to me how I used to feel about dolls when I was younger. Social media definitely has changed how I felt about dolls compared to a few years ago. I personally love your long form videos such as these since there are so few people who talk about dolls in a positive way that doesnt revolve around money.
1.) I agree with everything you said these sit down and talk videos is why I think your one of my favorite doll youtubers. You don’t just do videos of a new doll purchase or doll hunt and call it a day. You actually take time to let us know how much you deeply appreciate the dolls you own and let us into your special doll journey. As well as your wonderful and sweet outlook on life. 2.) as someone who way back in grade school used to be something of a bully before I matured out of it and grew the heck up completely I can testify to your statement about the fact that people will and do bully people over things they themself want. I don’t know why as I 100% grew out of this but I used to get actual literal anxiety when my friends had things I wanted that didn’t have or had seen shows or movies I wanted to see before me so I would take that out with anger. Then I actually stopped doing that and became a much better person snd only recently did I read somewhere something that stuck with me. Anger and hatred actually makes people miserable and can bring on depression because it’s a thousand times mor exhausting to be a hateful person than a kind accepting one. So yeah.
Thank you for this video! You made me realise so many things… i have recently been so obsessed with getting the rare or exspensive Dolls too impress people, but that was not what made me happy, and i only realise that now.
Hey Brooke, once I left the energy bill unpaid for paying a limited edition doll and next month had to pay double price and lost another doll so from now on,I try to put some priorities even though it's hard..
Very good advice! Every one was great for people to consider and take in. I have an obsession with lol omg dolls. i collect all of them cause they bring out my childhood and creativity. I also love monster high but missed getting the core dolls since my collecting started roughly around 2018. My mother doesn't really get why I collect but now even SHE likes to collect now especially the seem to be rare dolls. I collect them cause it truly makes me happy along with my child.
I agree with everything you said in the mindset section! Why have a hobby if it isn’t bringing you joy? I collect dolls because I adore dolls - I collect what makes me happy and customise what makes me happy. It takes time and effort and sometimes things don’t go the way we want but at the end of the day it should still be fun
Even if you can't afford (some people can only afford a couple of dolls all the year, trust me I through this phase) the dolls are still special and fun 😊. Plus they get special because you get once a while so it's even bigger joy
@@missdollycollector9687 Yep I agree. And you can still dress up dolls you already have, try mew hairstyles, learn to sew your own doll clothes and take photos. There’s lots of ways to have fun with dolls that aren’t just buying new ones :)
I've always loved dolls. I still have my porcelain dolls from my childhood. I've started collecting dolls now with my 4yo daughter from movies and shows or trips that we enjoy together and I plan to keep them forever, so I'll always have those memories. It's so fun, I do let her play with them so hopefully they won't be too trashed by the time she grows up. Probably many makeovers to come but I love that too. Great video!
My daughter is 5 and I play dolls with her. She has given me 2 dolls for when she asks to play dolls as she doesn't like them (ruby rainbow high and rocker boi the omg doll) plus my other daughter gave me two monster high dolls many years ago (the head mistress and heath burns with an apron on) which she also didn't like. I'm 44 and i tell people at work i have my own dolls for when my daughter wants to play dolls. I like to think its making good memories for both my daughters. I have no intention of getting rid of them when she gets older or the box of monster high dolls although they do need some tlc.
I've been collecting since 2011, stopped for a while and continued in 2020, when Rainbow High got released. I got so many new dolls ever since and they make me so happy! Met so many new friends on the socials just because of my hobby. I don't think I'll ever stop collecting dolls, they are such stress relievers to me 💜
Great advice, keep up the good work! I understand what you were saying about some collecting communities getting a bit toxic. I am a huge collector of vintage Tenyo puzzles and used to be admin of this Disney puzzler group. They kicked me out of admin due to jealousy when I was sharing with others how to get rare puzzles. It’s like they wanted to be the only owners ever. It was crazy weird and not that serious.
I got into doll collecting because I accidentally re watch tangled a bit and all the flashbacks came back to me!! And then started buying dolls 1 week ago♥️♥️ especially now that I have a job I can now finally buy myself some dolls that I’ve been wanting since I was a kid
You’ve had so many good things to say!! I collect just what I love a little at a time and I see so many huge collections and wonder if I can really even call mine a collection LOL or like feel silly for only getting the new stuff and the occasional thrift. But like, it’s the way that I can dress and manage them and I enjoy the feeling of looking forward to a new doll almost as much as bringing one home. I started a YT to just share my interests and feel seen and immediately started seeing comments like “just because you have a doll collection doesn’t mean you need to start a TH-cam channel”. I thought about quitting but then I remembered that they probably hadn’t ever even watched me and if that made them mad that’s silly. Lol. Great advice that can be applied to a lot of other aspects of life. Also watched your slumber party review and it was so cute!! Thanks for your positive presence in the doll community. :) Keep being you!
I started collecting the rainbow high dolls January of this year and finished series 1,2 & the cheer dolls including Avery closet and hair station set within a month. I’ve found the dolls very stunning and just found it comforting when I would wash the hair out pose/display them on my shelf’s. I currently just finished the winter break collection which took a month to complete because Jade was literally sold out everywhere but wasn’t in a huge rush because I literally bought the closet, rainbow car, Jett Dawson & 2 sets of the twins. I never really had a hobby growing up but I really do enjoy doll hunting and sharing to other doll collectors what my daily finds while they tell me their finds as well. Im slowly as well buying double of the series 1 & 2 dolls but only if i find them for a good sale just to keep them in their boxes. One thing about me though is I never change my dolls clothes I need them to stay in their original outfits and never their second outfits lmfao like I never use any of the closet clothing from the first and second but keep them in display of a miniature closet shelf I made but I tried switching their clothings but bugged me so I put their original outfits back on, but thank you for this video! ♥️
I agree that I rather keep the dolls in their original clothes. During any thrifting finds to restore the dolls-you often find them naked- or they have few items missing-you could use the extra clothes you have in your collections. It was fun to clean them up then dress them the way you like. So that way, these dolls you find thru thrift stores or garage sale or market places that it can be restored to their former glory.
I have newly stumbled across your youtube channel. You are wonderful! Keep doing you. So refreshing to see. In my experience most negative thoughts about what people would think were in my head. Most often people are positive or dont care at all. My family maybe dont understand exactly the feelings i have but they support it still. I started collecting officially at 29 years old. Most people honestly find it so interesting.
I’ve just started collecting fashion dolls recently because of the comeback of monster high and the reproductions of the bratz dolls popping up in some stores, and I’ve always had a love for dolls since I was little, unfortunately for me now my grandparents think it’s hoarding and childish so sadly they don’t really understand why I collect them since I’m older now. But that doesn’t stop me from buying them anyway lol.
I used to collect Bratz in 2002 along with my daughter. She was seven years old…that I used to buy dolls for her to play with. I was crazy over Barbies since I was three-(1963) - played with them til I was 15. I am sad that my mom didn’t keep the dolls for me knowing how much I adored them. She just don’t like to have clutters around the house-we had to throw anything away what we outgrown them. So with my daughter is different story that I told her if she didn’t want them anymore to give it back to me. She wasn’t crazy over them so I stop buying it in 2006. Luckily, I save them after 15 years in the storage and my favorites of early lines of Bratz because it reminds me of early Barbies I used to play with. I just got back collecting dolls again 2 months ago because of Bratz re-released. I freaked out when I took the dolls out of the storage where I saved them for very long time from my daughter used to play with. Those playthings like cars, furniture etc is really cute addition to displayed with Bratz dolls. I decided to unboxed my early Bratz to start displaying my collection…I freaked out to see their hair rubber bands were brittle - being fall apart. I learn how to restore their hairstyle. I find it fun to play with them because it reminds me of my childhood. I find it more beautiful to display my collection being unboxed. With that it made me happy - looking forward to new Bratz re-released. I find it really interesting to see my undetailed and detailed original Bratz variations with re-releases Bratz together in my collection. I find it pretty cool.
im not done with the video but i cant wait! im somewhat of a new collector & ur videos always keep me motivated, so thank u so much for making this video. alsoo i love what u did with ur hair :D
I feel like I really relate to you in the saving money aspect. Last year my puppy Roscoe broke his leg and we tried to save the leg but had to amputate it and I had literally no savings. But I had a ton of dolls. I felt like crap. I was lucky my boyfriend of 6 years is a great money saver and that my grandmother was willing to lend me money for over $3000 of surgeries(-what my boyfriend had) and medical bills. (I paid her back fully) I still struggle with saving money because I have manic bipolar and I have ocd tendencies where I become OBSESSIVE and I have to have something or I'll literally stress out about it because "my life will be enhanced so much more by this doll" and this mindset always comes when I'm having struggles with family or just other stressors. I really need to just enjoy what I have when I get in that state but sometimes it's so hard. It was nice knowing someone else struggles to save money up for themselves.
TY FOR THIS !!!!! i started collecting dolls when i was really really really young and i haven't gotten a doll since i was 12. Now i'm 14 and am thinking of starting to collect again but i've been feeling rlly insecure abt itbc of my age 0_o. So the point of not really caring what other people think was really helpful !! thx !! ^_^
I used to do that too I wouldn't go in the doll isle either if somebody was there but after a while it's like I'm doing the same thing they are doing why be ashamed and I just started doll collecting in 2017.
this is exactly why i love your channel, i only collect dolls i like, i dont always get the whole collection just a few i like. at first i was getting into that mindset where i need to get everything. i’m in love with bratz, it was my favorite toy we had as kids. all mine were given away and so i now i’m trying to get them back but i’m not ever going to get sucked into the high prices and drama for a toy.
The biggest jealousy about other people's collections is space. I have a decent sized bedroom but, because I have roommates, it's my only space to really display my collection. So I look at other people's display spaces and wistfully wish I had that amount of space. But, I make the most of the space I do have and I love my dolls. My family and friends sometimes tease me about my dolls but I never feel weird about it. They love me and could care less that I collect. Some of them actually support me and add to my collection. In fact, my best friend has a lot of fun thrifting dolls to gift me. Thank you for sharing your advice and thoughts on collecting!
I absolutely loved this, thank you so much for reminding me and many others in the community what is actually important about this hobby. Btw I was just wondering if you could make a video on how to purchase a Disney limited edition doll. I am not a new collector of dolls but I've never gone outside of playline and honestly the whole disney LE drop process and skullector drops are really intimidating to me and I have no clue where to begin
I hate that i let others get to me in regards to the toys i had. I had so many of my childhood vintage Polly Pockets, 80s and 90s My Little Ponies, etc.. Got rid of them because i was shamed for having them still in my 20s. Heartbreaking and i wish you were around at that time to instill confidence in me. ❤️
Thank you for your words of wisdom!! I'm thinking of starting a collection because growing up I loved playing with dolls so I'm excited😄😄 I've already got some comments from my parents cuz I'm 16 but I'm like WHATEVER they're soo cute :))
I hate when people get jealous when you are going to get something for really cheap and they message the seller and the seller will then raise the price because they found out they can make more money.
Another thing I’ve found helpful is if you get a gift certificate for a place that sells dolls. My last two SH dolls came from a gift certificate I received.
My parents always tell me that I’m to old for dolls and I’m sick of it even tho I’m a little older than 18 and tell me I can’t get a doll even tho it’s my own money. Like a Barbie that I wanted I had to sneak it when I bought it.
I so get you 😭 My parents forced me to stop collecting dolls when I was 13... Now I'm 19 and got back into dolls around half a year ago? I'm so excited about it ☺️
Ah, this brought back so many memories to my time on flickr, back when it used to be a cool platform to share doll photos in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I hosted all my Pokemon fanart right next to all my Barbie, Pullip, and 45cm ABJDs and people in the Pokemon community used to say shit about my dolls on public forums, whenever someone would share my url. Oh well, that's what I get for ego-searching.
I really appreciate that you are so honest about some parents just suck. It bothers me so much when people give advice that doesn't take that into account. I'm wondering would you ever considered using a Patreon?
I started collecting Bratz as an adult becuse I loved them so mutch as a kid, the movies, the doll, the big rug I had on my room, posters all over lol. I do it for my inner child💕
I just started. I bought my first Bratz doll. I do it because I lost my childhood. I didn't get the experience that a child is supposed to. So im collecting the dolls I had as a kid and the ones I always wanted
when I started collecting dolls as a teenager i was so insecure about it that it kind of made it weird. now i just walk up to the doll aisle like yup I'm here to stare at every toy here
I’m prod of my doll collection most of my co workers know that I collect them and one of my co workers collect pez and kiss stuff I always love hearing about what everyone collects or does for a hobby in the break room 😊
I have adhd and that drawing thing is something that helps me focus in class too, like I’ll show my homework to my mom and she’ll scream abt how I’m doodling on my work and stuff
You Were Talking About Looking Around To Make Sure There Was No One In The Toy Section, & I Do Exactly That I Don't Want No One To See But I Am Getting a Little Better At It, It Doesn't Make Me As Nervous Anymore, The Lady That Cash My Stuff, Said One Little Girl Is Gonna Be Happy & I Got So Nervous I Told Her Yeah She Is 🤦♀️ But They Were For Me, The Only People In My Life Right Know That Know I Collect Is My Fiance & My Best Friend No One Els Knows
A little tangent. A really good example for me is the Pokémon community. Everyone just decided that certain cards are insanely valuable, some so much so that they could probably pay off a mortgage. I hate most of those cards. I think they're ugly as heck and I would not even spend €5 on them. Charizard? Nah. Poliwag is way more fun. Yet I see myself falling into this behaviour with my Bratz collection sometimes. There are these dolls that are very sought after and I absolutely do not like them, yet I'm looking for them because I want this 'high end' collection. Thanks for the reminder that collecting something you love is supposed to be fun. It seems like a given but it really isn't, at least for me. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be looking at my gorgeous dolls, high end or not. 🌈💕
Actually there is more to car collecting than vanity and making money. There is beautiful history to many cars and there are lessons that cars teach you. Yeah there are people that just collect lambos and ferraris but that’s rare in the Car Collecting Community
Looove this video! Killin it with the videos lately !! I think we needed this one ! I need to be reminded it’s ok we all just need to have fun 🤗 🖤lolshowmelols j&g collections
i started collecting in 2001 with bratz but then sold them in my early 20's but then in 2009 i started to collect any type of fashion dolls like bratz, liv, my scene, omg lol dolls i love dolls
ok wait i just started this video and idk how else to say this other than i forgot how human hair worked ??? i saw u had ur bangs clipped back and i thought you like... plucked them out like how you can pluck a dolls bangs out to get rid of their bangs im dumb sorry
They should all be skippable. If they’re not then TH-cam is not following the guidelines I set for ads. But this is a job. I am making content for you to access for free. This is how I am paid for that content
I am a small collector, I prefer to keep the amount small (mainly due to space). I don't want every doll, especially because I remember MH and EAH and know more is coming in the future and I like to prioritize.
I collect doll because it make me happy. Every doll in my collection have a special memories attached to them. 😊
Same
Yes!! They are literally made to bring joy - I love that happiness is central to our hobby :)
Same feels

i started collecting because of her too! even though i onlyhave 1 doll, i am exited to learn about them and get more
Yea I started collecting RH now but then stumbled upon her channel because of it

Queen 😭 I’ve been in the hospital for the past 3 days and ur daily vids is the main thing that kept me going! LOVE IT
I hope you get better soon ❤❤❤ stay safe :)
I have two pet rabbits also, who roam our living room! So excited to hear you have them too. They are such an amazing and underestimated pet.
I used to be that way, too, about wanting to "climb every mountain" and "right every wrong." Then I realized it was "The Impossible Dream." LOL
So the point of not really caring what other people think was really helpful !! thx !! ^_^
Thank you for giving this advice I needed to hear some of these points as a doll collector.
I used to do that too I wouldn't go in the doll isle either if somebody was there but after a while it's like I'm doing the same thing they are doing why be ashamed and I just started doll collecting in 2017.
Love your sit-down-and-chat videos, Brooke! This one helps me out a lot, thank you! Keep up the great work! 👍
this is exactly why i love your channel, i only collect dolls i like, i dont always get the whole collection just a few i like. at first i was getting into that mindset where i need to get everything. i’m in love with bratz, it was my favorite toy we had as kids. all mine were given away and so i now i’m trying to get them back but i’m not ever going to get sucked into the high prices and drama for a toy.
I so get you 😭
My parents forced me to stop collecting dolls when I was 13... Now I'm 19 and got back into dolls around half a year ago? I'm so excited about it ☺️
doll collecting is SOOO different in each country. i love u brick 💘
It is mors satisfying to but one or two versus the a whole series at once.
I appreciate this! A lot of the info is relevant to collecting in general 🥰
Very valid points, I love your attitude.
Thanks for the tips I love the chatting videos. I hope you can get your rabbits there Play pen soon!!!!
when I started collecting dolls as a teenager i was so insecure about it that it kind of made it weird. now i just walk up to the doll aisle like yup I'm here to stare at every toy here
I’m lowkey the perfect doll collector ngl😌
No I'm the perfect doll collector 😡😤😞😣😩😏😋
I needed to hear this, have been going overboard on buying lately, gonna take your advice on board
That's not the type of car that I was talking about 😅 I was talking LA new money douchebags
I love you!!! You look so pretty!!!!
Do you have a video on a doll spa day? I would love to see that!!

Hip dips are awesome! I have them too and heck yeah let's rock them :)
Really great video! That's sums up most important things really well. I'm really bad at waiting...but I'm getting better.
You talk very well! Loved the video ✨
I love this video, you are very smart and insightful.
Love and agree with all your points!
You can do a proffit, its about what doll it is..rare or not.
I really needed this video, thank u so much it was so helpful. 🥰💞
Your hair is really pretty 😋😀
Very thoughtful, thanks! :) I have a couple of your tips to work on xD
Off topic but your bangs clipped to the side with the middle part REALLY suits you

Such a good video! :)
Hi brooke
2nd
Two commercials every five minutes is too much
They should all be skippable. If they’re not then TH-cam is not following the guidelines I set for ads.
But this is a job. I am making content for you to access for free. This is how I am paid for that content
1st!
Imagine i get pinned lol
I am a small collector, I prefer to keep the amount small (mainly due to space). I don't want every doll, especially because I remember MH and EAH and know more is coming in the future and I like to prioritize.
Super depressed about life needed this video today
❤
