I have to say that I really like what you've done, and the idea of being able to see the species, egg production, hatch dates, etc... all without having to open the box would be a huge advantage. How long have you experimented with your interior dimensions? Since we know that each species has its own space preferences as well as entrance diameter, does the larger box get less nesting activity than those with species-based dimensions? Is there a solar panel option for your camera so the batteries don't run down too soon? Thanks, the wheels are turning. I appreciate it and learned of your video through Essential Craftsman. I've been experimenting with birdhouse designs about 3 years. My earlier designs were smaller. And Bluebirds did use them but it got crowded as the nestling got close to fledging. From what I have seen, the extra spaces gives all the nestling room to stand side by side and get feed more equally. Which means there's less likely to be runts. It's had to say the effect of the dimensions. Because I've seen a Chickdee build a nest in a really large birdhouse that I build for a Woodpecker. I've seen House Finches build a nest inside a very small light fixture on the porch. I have used a solar panel with the camera. And it works but was problematic due to getting enough sun and one time needing to disconnect the camera to reset it. I'm now only using batteries and with the small top door it's easy to change without much disturbance to the birds. Thank you for subscribing!

I really like this design. I used your idea of using the Blink cameras inside bird houses this year and was able to capture an Eastern Bluebird, Chickadee, and two House Wren nests across three different nesting boxes.

That is a spacious birdhouse! In Richmond Va we get many bluebirds and chickadees that would love to nest in a bird house that big! We have 3 and one of them is a large box for something like an owl or red bellied wood pecker. There are leaves in it after I confirmed it was cleared mid fall so something is roosting there since it has been very cool down here for a while now. Thanks for your constant uploads!

@@BirdsWalkingDown Thanks, I am building it using your plans for a Birdhouse with a wireless camera, I guess it is the 5.5 inches size? anyway, I can always adjust it if needed. One additional question, how important are the ladder saw slots? I don't have access to a table saw (I am using only manual tools) and those slots are difficult to make with manual tools.
What an awesome birdhouse! Your thoughtful attention to detail is so refined and executed perfectly. After getting into birding over the last few years, I am planning on putting up nest boxes for the first time in 2023. Here in CT, I'm guessing the potential inhabitants would more than likely be either Bluebirds, Downy Woodpeckers, Chickadees, or Tufted Titmice. I don't care which LOL. When do you suggest putting up the bird houses? What week/month in preparation for mating season? Thanks for your great videos! I've been watching for a little while now :)

What an out standing bird house you definitely paid attention to the details. But I’m a 14 year old that loves nature and want to become a nature photographer.I have a couple birds feeders but have not got A bird house and would be so grateful if I won.

That's so neat to hear what you do! I'm the same way, I can't find a well made house, you know what upsets me is when you go to hobby lobby or any craft store and you see them bird houses that are cheap aluminum and the hole, the hole is so sharp and small. They should be ashamed. I have a ton of birds and squarls, lol there out on my deck now 😆. The blue Jay's are not intimidated by them at all lol. You are amazing! Another thing there's a TV show that I want off the air, Alaska!! They just killed this huge beautiful wolf 🐺 . There killing all kinds of these gorgeous animals that are doing nothing wrong but living in there environment raising there families. These animals feel and think just as we do. Anyways your houses are 👏 amazing. I have them blinc cameras that I like to get photos from. I have a squarl picnic table up on the tree and 1 birdhouse. I'll enter for the giveaway! Thank you 🐦

Would you recommend putting the birdhouse on a pole or on the tree? I have tried both and bird don’t use either what I’m I doing wrong?

@@BirdsWalkingDown Awesome, thanks so much! I'm putting this into SketchUp and trying to think through ways I could convert it to a roosting box for cold months. As of now, I'm thinking I'll not cut the ladder kerfs all the way through and will remove some of the other ventilation, but add some angled holes in the top that can be corked in the winter. Also thinking I'll have the front be reversible for the hole to be at the bottom for roosting months, and have some holes drilled in one of the walls to insert a few perches during winter months. Open to any other ideas you might have!

I think it would be great if you sold the 3d printed camera shelf, or at least share the blueprint. My husband recently built a roost box and turned out that the camera mounting was the most challenging.
