The "top menu" workaround only works on SOME region-locked movies & SOME players. If you're serious about playing region-locked movies from other regions, get a region-free player from a reputable modder like 220 Electronics, World Imports or Bombay Electronics in the U.S., Multiregion Magic or TPS in the UK, or their Amazon marketplaces. Reputable modders stand behind their work, especially important since the mods usually void the manufacturer's warranty. Since very few 4K Blu-rays are region-locked (they violate the 4K Blu-ray standard by manually adding regular Blu-ray region locks), it will be cheaper & easier for many people to buy a region-free regular Blu-ray player than a region-free 4K player. (I own a 220-modded UB820 myself, but I wanted a single player for my stand & got it just as the rogue region-locked 4K's first appeared.) Be sure the player is region-free modded for regular Blu-ray (ABC) as well as DVD (1 to 9); 220 in particular sells many of its Blu-ray players with only DVD mods at base price, charging an extra $40 to add the Blu-ray mod.
Thanks for your feedback! I agree that buying a region-free player is the best way to go about it, but I think this workaround is a good option if you have maybe one or two foreign titles in your collection, especially if this works on your player. I think many people don't want to pay the extra money to go region-free because of that reason.

In Australia, we have the legal right to buy discs from anywhere in the world (so long as they're not pirated) and play them here. We also have the legal right to make as many back-up copies of our media, as we wish, so long as we only use those copies for private use and we retain the original media. For some reason, manufacturers of Blu-Ray players and other playback/recording devices get away with locked region coding. LG is one of those companies. Years ago, I bought an LG DVD recorder/Blu-Ray player combo drive, for my computer. One day I tried to play a Blu-Ray from a different region and the player gave a similar error to what you have in your video. I wrote to LG Australia about the problem. All they told me is all their DVD drives/players etc. are region locked to Australia (the ones sold here). I wrote back to them. I told them about the legalities of media in Australia and how LG doesn't tell anyone their devices are region-locked on their packaging or on their website, so everyone has the legal right to a refund, because they are "not fit for purpose" (a trade practices term). No-one at LG bothered to reply.
I can’t speak for outside the US, but region locking has always been a thing outside of the majority of 4K UHDs. We can import movies here too, but it all comes down to the region it’s from due to licensing, ratings, and main language selection.
I bought a studio canal blu ray. The method gets me to the main menu of the disk. But then theres no sound and no menu appears to start the movie. I get the background of the start menu tho to the film but cant play anything
That’s definitely odd. That’s the first time I’ve heard of it not playing if it gets you to the menu. Almost seems like an error if it’s not displaying the menu.
@b-icemedia it's so weird. It's Red Sonja with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I get the studio canal intro then when I get to the main menu. I get the clips of the movie playing in the background. But I get no option to play movie or scene selection, etc etc.. I push every button on my remote and nothing happens.
Tried it with a universal blu ray from America. It dosent work as it keeps saying this operation cannot be performed by the disc. It does however work on Hong Kong blu rays though.
Thanks a bunch! My UB820 just arrived yesterday and I got it to work with 1 press on the stop button to get the generic blu ray screen to pop and then at least 2 presses on the top Menu.
Based on what I heard, these hacks may or may not work depending on different factors. But I think that it is due to the way the region lock was coded on that disc. You can try searching for other hacks on Google and see if something works for your other discs.
Thank You!! I just tried this on my new Panasonic DP-UB9000-P1K player (Region A/1) and it worked great on the superior Region B "African Queen" Blu-ray disc. I don't have any other Region B Blu-rays on hand yet, but I am hopeful that they will work as well. I did notice that this workaround does not seem to work on DVDs, such as the random Region 2 / PAL disc that I tried. Would you know of a similar fix for DVDs on this player? Either way, I'm very appreciative that it works on Blu-rays (so far). Before finding your post today, I attempted all kinds of Google-related remote code suggestions, none of which worked. So a big Thank You again and keep up the good work! I'm now a subscriber. 😊
Glad I could help! I don't know of any tricks for DVDs, nor do I have many in my collection, so I'm not sure about that one. I hope many of my future videos will be helpful as well; thank you for subscribing!
Panasonic players can be made region free for DVD with a certain remote code. You can either program the codes into something like a Harmony remote but much easier just to buy a region hack remote that sends the codes. Easily available on eBay etc. for a few bucks and work on virtually every Panasonic Blu-ray and 4K player. The hack shown here does work, but not with every disk. Some disks seem to have an extra check that can’t be bypassed with this. (For example, Kino Lorber region A disks can’t be bypassed on a Region B player with this trick, while Criterion disks work ok).
I just bought the UB-420. As one of the seasons of HighSchool DxD are Region B only for some reason, that’ll probably be the one I’ll try this trick on. When I’ve gotten that season, which is season 2 IIRC, I’ll post an update if this trick works.
Wow cool nice hack but never understand the whole region thing is there movies we can’t get in USA that is on region b etc ? And how did you get the blue background on the main menu mines boring black
Thanks for watching! It comes down to different rating companies and primary language mostly. There is movies we have here that other countries don't have and vice versa. Here's a video on changing your wallpaper as well: th-cam.com/video/xFvOn8CllXc/w-d-xo.html
I’m in the UK I have the same 4K player. The majority of my Region A discs are Criterion so, I just stop the disc on the Region Locked screen, press the menu button and it starts normally. However I found this only works with Criterion discs, other distributors it doesn’t work.
You just unlocked a whole new world for me along with this video - I had a couple of Criterion 4K Combos imported and the special features are only on the Blu-Ray discs. Now I can play them! It also means I can easily import Criterion Blu-Ray titles without the need of region unlocked player! Thank you!
I have Panasonic EU region player and I tested with First Blood 4k UHD’s companion region A bonus blu-ray disc. I press stop and top menu and the disc starts. Only problem is that bonus disc’s menus are not visible so I can’t choose or play contents.
I’m personally dealing with a region B copy of Hellraiser on blu ray, my only issue being that I use a PS5 as my player and it doesn’t seem to work because it automatically takes me back to the PS menu. Any thoughts?
Hi, I've just been informed that The Abyss uhd 4k uk release has been cancelled due to the Rat scene. Anyway, I was wondering if this hack would work on a region B player with a region A disc?? It looks like it's going to be the only way I can buy The Abyss.😢
I did hear about that for everyone in the UK! I'm sorry you all have to deal with importing. I'm not sure as far as Region A discs playing on a Region B player. If this hack doesn't work, then you'd probably need to invest in a region-free player.
Not if you import the 4K probably with Blu ray. Butt then you have to have an UHD player. Friend of mine has a Pana blu ray player region B (not sure which model) but he says this hack also works the other way around so region A disc in region B player. Hope i could help you with this.
I can confirm this worked on a DMR-UBZ1020, I needed to press stop twice and I needed to click sub menu followed by top menu twice, the first time always failed the second time always worked. Unfortunately it would not play the 3d video playlist on a disc with a 2d/3d top menu selection option, it always played the 2d video playlist iregardless of my selection (so there are some limitations it seems).
@@ravexjunkieIt worked a few times BUT occasionally it doesn't. I have had to switch it off and reboot it, which is frustrating, It seems to be random, so sometimes I just give up.

Thanks, I was going to buy a Region B disc for playing in Region C, but does this mean, that if I just buy a player for Region B and it should work normally, irrespective of my actual location?
It's not a guaranteed fix, but it should work regardless of the original Region lock. If you have lots of other region discs, then your best bet would be to purchase a region free player.
First, I tried opening tray and enter 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 . Then, I reseted the UB-400 player (Region A). Finally, I inserted a B disc and play. It didn't work, it displayed restriction, but after I entered code 123 and voilá , It worked. I don't know if long code worked or 123 code... I hope it helps.

I've not got a Panasonic machine I've unfortunately got a LG BP 250 it's not a bad player but I'd love to find a way of hacking it like you did, I just don't understand why we need region codes especially when it's older much older movies, I'm wanting to watch Battle Beyond The Stars Steelbook Blu-ray rescanned remastered release but it's region A and I live in the UK so we're region B
Yeah, I'm glad 4Ks are mainly region free, so this is less of a problem, but they mainly did so for exclusive releases, primary language, ratings, and distribution rights.

Sounds great! Keep me posted.
Any tips for a panasonic dp ub150 region hack? Is it possible to cgange region
I have seen some threads online talk about switching regions, but I think you can only do it a few times before it locks.
I’m in the UK I have the same 4K player. The majority of my Region A discs are Criterion so, I just stop the disc on the Region Locked screen, press the menu button and it starts normally. However I found this only works with Criterion discs, other distributors it doesn’t work.
Hmm, it's odd how it varies by region and player. I'm glad it's working for your Criterion discs! They have a lot of great titles.
I have made my Panasonic UB820 region free by fitting a modification kit/chip
You just unlocked a whole new world for me along with this video - I had a couple of Criterion 4K Combos imported and the special features are only on the Blu-Ray discs. Now I can play them! It also means I can easily import Criterion Blu-Ray titles without the need of region unlocked player! Thank you!
I have Panasonic EU region player and I tested with First Blood 4k UHD’s companion region A bonus blu-ray disc. I press stop and top menu and the disc starts. Only problem is that bonus disc’s menus are not visible so I can’t choose or play contents.
@@rokydo you press stop then top menu or both at the same time?
I’m personally dealing with a region B copy of Hellraiser on blu ray, my only issue being that I use a PS5 as my player and it doesn’t seem to work because it automatically takes me back to the PS menu. Any thoughts?
I don’t think there are any work arounds for PS4/PS5. Their operating systems are a lot different than traditional blu-ray players.
Hi,
I've just been informed that The Abyss uhd 4k uk release has been cancelled due to the Rat scene.
It works. 😊
Not if you import the 4K probably with Blu ray. Butt then you have to have an UHD player. Friend of mine has a Pana blu ray player region B (not sure which model) but he says this hack also works the other way around so region A disc in region B player. Hope i could help you with this.
@proclaimed75 yeah mate that's brilliant 👏 Thank you. 🫡
The Abyss’s disc is actually region-free, so this will be a non-issue, which is great!
Not working for 820 with reg B Ratatouille 😢. Are you running the current firmware?
Dang, I'm sorry to hear that! At the time of the video I was, but I haven't checked for an update in a while.
will this work for Sony BDP S500 or for Sony BDP S2000ES, who knows please write???
I'm not sure, but a lot of comments have said this doesn't work with most Sony players.
Hi, great vid. Would this work for a region 2 DVD to play in a Region 1 Blu-ray?
I'm not honestly sure. I don't have many DVDs anymore, but I believe I have seen someone say that it doesn't work. I'd still give it a shot and see!
Can’t get my Onkyo blu ray player region free. Does this work for Onkyo blu ray player as well?
I honestly had no idea they had blu-ray players, haha. So, I’m not sure, but it wouldn’t hurt to try!
Thanks for your feedback, and thank you for watching!
Fantastic. It worked . Thanks
(Sony BDP S3700)
I’m glad it worked for you! Thanks for watching.
Hi I'm thinking about getting a sony s3700 does this hack definitely work just like in the video?
@@ravexjunkieIt worked a few times BUT occasionally it doesn't. I have had to switch it off and reboot it, which is frustrating, It seems to be random, so sometimes I just give up.
@@phil1758 I'm in the uk i only want it for the occasional region a/blu ray would you say the s3700 is worth getting cheap for this reason?

Anyone know if this will work for Sony ubp-x700 4k player ? I dont have any other region blurays so i cant test it. But theres a few older kovies i can get for way better deal thats rehion B but dont wanna get them if i cant play them!?
I think multiple people in the comments have said it doesn’t work on Sony’s. I’ll be getting in a Sony 4K player next month, and I’ll look into a potential workaround!
@@b-icemediadid you find out if the sony player can play other regions?
Thanks, I was going to buy a Region B disc for playing in Region C, but does this mean, that if I just buy a player for Region B and it should work normally, irrespective of my actual location?
It's not a guaranteed fix, but it should work regardless of the original Region lock. If you have lots of other region discs, then your best bet would be to purchase a region free player.
@@b-icemedia yeah better idea, thanks. And I guess, all regions should work on PC rom too then?
First, I tried opening tray and enter 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 . Then, I reseted the UB-400 player (Region A). Finally, I inserted a B disc and play. It didn't work, it displayed restriction, but after I entered code 123 and voilá , It worked. I don't know if long code worked or 123 code... I hope it helps.
Nice! I may have to try this way myself. Thank you!
@@b-icemedia please let me know if it works. Just try playing a B disc and enter 123 :D
I got it to work for a region b locked blu ray I have but anyway I can get it to play pal region 0 dvds? I have the same blu ray player by the way.
Very nice! It’s a great player. From other comments I’ve seen, it does not work for DVDs.
does this work with the Sony UBP-X700?
I think the majority of people said it did not work for their Sony, unfortunately.
I own a DMP-BD45 and I don't find the solution. does it work on this PANASONIC DEVICE? I press STOP several times when the message is on and nothing happens.
I think I've seen someone else comment that it did, but I may be wrong. I think it also depends on the current software it's on.
With mod firmware ub420/820/9000 + this trick we can enter to most bd disc and also skip most ads from every disc.
Ah, I didn't even think of that! I enjoy watching the old trailers, so I don't mind watching them, haha.
i want to buy a panasonic DP-UB450 works this method ?

Does it work for Sony? I have a old sony blu ray player that is region locked. Also fo I have to do this each time?
I’m not completely sure as each model and current software plays a part. And yes, you’d have to do this each time.
@@b-icemedia Didnt work but thanks, might get a new one some time

I have a Panasonic Player and your hack only works for a couple of my region 18 discs but not all . I have regions 12, 15 and 16 and it doesnt work for any of those. This Sucks. Is there a way you can figure out these other regions? Thanks ahead of time.
Ah, I’m sorry it’s not working for all of them! I may have another workaround, but I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I will have it posted soon if it works!
Are there regions 12, 15, 16 and 18? I thought there were only 7 for DVD?
Also for blu-ray it in letters; A, B, C etc
Tried it on the Region B Disc of The Fifth Element on my Panasonic UB9000 and it worked but with only two taps of the stop button and maybe two on the Top Menu button. It doesn't work on my Oppo-203 however.
It seems to vary on how many stop presses it takes! lol. Not too surprising on the Oppo, their software is much different.
@@b-icemediaI believe that only a hardware fix will enable region free ability on the Oppos.
@@MrNorcal81 Probably so! Hardware mods can convert any player.
Work With Sony UBP X700?
I’m not sure, I haven’t had the opportunity to test it on a Sony.
no definitely not working
I have a panasonic blu ray player dmp-bdt167 player and I bought a remote control for it because the person I had it from lost the original control and I'm looking for a code to unlock the region to play blu rays and dvds from any region. Please help. Robert Bridgend Wales
I'm not sure of any specific codes, but there are some various options you can try online!
This works on most blurays. But not dvd so far that I tested.
Yeah, that's what I've heard. There may be other workarounds for DVDs out there!
I tried a studio canal disc, and it did not work for me it just said the operation is prohibited by the disc I'll certainty try it out with other disc but I am in the fortunate position of owning a jailbroken ps3 which in my opinion is the best region free player. btw my player was a Panasonic UB820
Hmm, sorry it didn't work out for you! It seems to depend on the software and/or studios. I've noticed all of my Region B's play normally besides the Boogeyman in my player.
I am wondering how can you import like a Japanese movie into an American Xbox one or blu ray player. Cause I really want that Godzilla Minus One Blu ray in Japan bundle but I don’t know what’s going to happen if I put it in an English blu ray or Xbox. B-ice Media can you help me with this? Cause I really hope it won’t break when I put it in my American movie players.
It won't break if you throw it in either of those players. I don't think there are any work arounds for PlayStation or Xbox, but Japanese blu-rays should be Region A.
@@b-icemedia ok and those consoles i have are from the U.S. so they are also part of region a?

What about for DVDs?
I haven’t come across any tricks for DVDs. They’re a lot tougher to bypass.
Always keep the instructions on how to keep your multi region 4K player working
This isn't an actual multi-region player, but I agree if you do have one.
@@b-icemedia I do have one 🙂
Did not work with Panasonic DP-UB450. Tried it with "The Man From Earth" And Halloween. B player, A discs. Got back to "Invalid Region" message after STOP and TOP MENU.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you! It seems to be hit or miss or dependent on the software.
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. I have the Panasonic dp-ub9000 and when I put in a region B disc it doesn’t take me to the screen where it says disc can’t be played. It just takes me to the screen where I’m supposed to click top menu 3 times. I press it and nothing happens
That’s definitely odd! That’s the first I’ve heard of that happening. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.
Will region r blu rays work on a Sony BD RMT-VB201U?
I can’t personally say that I’ve tried this on a Sony, but many others in the comments are saying that it does not.
@b-icemedia What about Xbox One? I have series 5 of Doctor Who that was from the UK. It doesn't work on my PS5 or my Sony blu ray player, but it did work on my Xbox One.
I think it all depends on the software involved with each unit. I’m glad it worked on your Xbox!
Press stop once and press popup menu three times and it should start the movie.
Mine is weird about the number of button presses. Sometimes it's only two, and sometimes it's three, lol.
I had to press mine once in the stop button and once for the top menu.
cant get this working on the Panasonic DP-UB150
Hmm, it seems to be dependent on disc and the player's software. Sorry it didn't work for you!
