I was there and the silence was so loud and respectfully once the audience stopped booing and understood. A moment I'll never forget and gave me goosebumps.
All of his own songs are pure emotion. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, but the one time I saw him live is by far the best show I’ve ever seen. I’m looking forward to seeing him live later this year and hopefully again next year.
Days later, I still feel so affected by her passing. Damien Rice's music holds a special place in my heart so to see/ hear him sing this in an on the fly tribute, so raw and yet honest is just kind of a gut punch in the stomach full of emotions about life, getting older, loss, love and dreams. He should definitely record this song. His voice is so epic too just like Sinead's was (but his in a different way). RIP dear Sinead. I hope you knew how loved you were/ are.
That’s astonishing! The collective vigil is just beautiful. These people will never forget the moment they were all together paying their respects and hats off to Damien Rice. He nurtured this song so beautifully.
Thank you and your audience for singing the song. It’s comforting to know that there are other people on this planet who felt Sinead’s influence in their lives. I recently discovered her a year ago, and I wish she could’ve felt the love people had for her and her music. Rest in peace, Sinead.
WOW, now this is an honest reaction to finding out a fellow Artist you actually really RESPECT has left this her earthly journey, love you Damo Rice fair play to you, Sinead I'd say your looking down with a huge smile, you rest now are sweet sweet Sinead X
This was clearly an emotional blow for him and while he was trying to process it on stage, idiots in the audience are trying to push him along by calling out the name of the song they want. They should have been grateful that he shared something special with them.
I absolutely hate those people in the audience who whoop and cheer while Damien is mourning a fellow Irish singer and musician. Some people never know when to shut up. I recall being at a concert in London where Damien offered to refund the ticket cost and pay the tube fare of people who would not shut up as they were drinking at the bar while he was on stage. The crowd turned and booed these stupid drunk individuals and I will never forget the silence that followed as we listened to Damien singing. When you go to a show by all means enjoy yourself but not at the expense of everyone else and especially not to distract the artist you came to hear with your stupid whooping noises. Damien was genuinely moved to learn live on stage that Sinead had passed, perhaps a friend but certainly a fellow troubadour. Rest in peace Sinead, peace that surpasses all your troubled life.
Here, here! Sadly people today are too selfish, entitled and self absorbed and think only of how they themselves are feeling. It would have been far more respectful to Sinead's memory if they'd managed to remain silent throughout and allowed Damien the time and space to absorb what he'd just discovered about the passing of his fellow musician. Some individuals are just ignorant or stupid or both. Sinead would probably have told the whoopers to ''shut the Fk up". Bless her and R.I.P. Sinead you were a massive spirit.
Have you never been to an Irish wake? Part of grief is to let your emotions out and there is no shame and no wrong in screaming to the heavens nor whooping in the joyous remembrance of someone who gave us so much. Try not to see it as disrespect, hear it as spontaneous love for such an amazingly brave woman gone too soon. Now if those fucks at Saturday Nite Live do a tribute, that's a reason for anger.
Even if you aren't a Damien Rice fan this slaps hard. A moment that was so natural and organic. Whilst not perfect musically the moment was perfect and perfectly done by Damien. Rest in Peace Sinead.
This is a very heartfelt tribute. I love how he was immediately compelled to tribute her, even if he only sort of knew the song. This is a great cover because of that emotion. I've been listening to her music since I read that she died. Maybe Sinéad didn't write Nothing Compares, but judging by the rest of her music she definitely could have. She was brilliant.
Respect brother 🙏 Respect The genuine Reverence shown to Sinéad O'Connor by you and the crowd was magnificent ✨️ Lovely just Lovely ❤😮 Thank you for sharing..
It's been seven hours and fifteen days Since you took your love away I go out every night and sleep all day Since you took your love away Since you've been gone I can do whatever I want I can see whomever I choose I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant But nothing I said nothing can take away these blues 'Cause nothing compares Nothing compares to you It's been so lonely without you here Like a bird without a song Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling Tell me, baby, where did I go wrong I could put my arms around every boy I see But they'd only remind me of you I went to the doctor and guess what he told me? Guess what he told me? He said, "Girl, you better try to have fun no matter what you do," But he's a fool 'Cause nothing compares Nothing compares to you All the flowers that you planted, mama, in the back yard All died when you went away I know that living with you, baby, was sometimes hard But I'm willing to give it another try Nothing compares Nothing compares to you Nothing compares Nothing compares to you Nothing compares Nothing compares to you
Now that’s love.❤️He’s never played this song before and plays it live, in front of a huge crowd, just pure love for Sinead O’Connor pouring out of him. A beautiful remembrance for a woman who lived a meaningful life. Thank you.💔🎶🙏🕊😘
Wow just off the cuff and not knowing all the lyrics it sounded good. I’d love to hear him actually do a proper cover of the song. Great, heartfelt tribute by Damian. RIP Sinéad. 💔
Maybe the best 3 singers (including Dolores O'Riordan) from Ireland. I have nothing but respect and admiration for them. I can't wait for Damien to announce concert dates in my country.
@nomiseldnurt7064 as he asked what' about sinead ? Aww the guy that tryed to protect him saying no never mind:( what a way to find out of a friends passing:( he went from happy to shock & sad:( but took a moment for her & the crowd& him to connect& respect. Wow that would of been hard. Raw reality hit in the spot lights! Sad:(
🎶....................It's been so lonely without you here Like a bird without a song Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling Tell me baby, where did I go wrong? Very disrespectful crowd. Constant talking and shouting at him like he’s a dancing monkey. EVERYONE is there, not just you, have some consideration, keep your mouth closed and enjoy the gig.
This song actually fits his voice very well. However, I would think a songwriter of his talent and experience would figure out this song is written in a typical I V VI IV chord progression (C G Am F since he played it at C major) pretty fast (I think he played Em instead of G and kept playing Am instead of switching to F for most of the song). There is also a chord change right before and during the chorus with a different chord progression but ok that's tougher to figure out on the fly. He still sang it well for a song he is not very familiar with but this is such an easy and well-known chord progression in rock music that it is quite surprising he couldn't figure it out sooner.
I was there and the silence was so loud and respectfully once the audience stopped booing and understood. A moment I'll never forget and gave me goosebumps.
That was the most honest and humble thing that I have seen in quite a while...great tribute brother. Very sincere
What a beautiful performance! We are lucky to have him❤
I wish we listened with the same desire as we want to be heard.
This is improv on a different level. He sang with pure emotion. The chords he wasn’t sure of… he stopped strumming and just sang. Stunning.
All of his own songs are pure emotion. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, but the one time I saw him live is by far the best show I’ve ever seen. I’m looking forward to seeing him live later this year and hopefully again next year.
i cry everytime i hear this. rest in peace, sinead. thank you, damien
How he reacted to the news was about how we reacted to, and directly we started to play the song. Was a magic remembrance of her amazing version!

Absolutely love that he did this on the fly, couldn’t remember all the lyrics and just kept going!!!! Love it ❤️ He can sing anything!
That’s astonishing! The collective vigil is just beautiful. These people will never forget the moment they were all together paying their respects and hats off to Damien Rice. He nurtured this song so beautifully.
Thank You for sharing. Always hug your loved ones, we aren't granted tomorrow! I LOVE YOU ALL!

Chills.
Courage, sincerity, beauty. Hat's off to Damien Rice.
WOW, now this is an honest reaction to finding out a fellow Artist you actually really RESPECT has left this her earthly journey, love you Damo Rice fair play to you, Sinead I'd say your looking down with a huge smile, you rest now are sweet sweet Sinead X
This made me cry . Music is so powerful

What a great mark of respect from one authentic musician to another
Wow, that was raw. My eyes are leaking 😭
Hats off to Damien rice to do this at an amazing raw but real level
It just touched everyone's heart, thank you for uploading this.
This was clearly an emotional blow for him and while he was trying to process it on stage, idiots in the audience are trying to push him along by calling out the name of the song they want. They should have been grateful that he shared something special with them.
Wonderful tribute to a great artist by a great artist. Would love to have been there ❤
amazing ... LOVE is a wonderful thing x

Agreed my friend. ❤
Thanks

Sinead absolutely killed her cover...but my god could Prince write a song.
Fair play for being so brave and emotional
Putting him on the spot artistically and emotionally 😢
So mean of the people
Damien should definitely record a cover of this song - his voice is great for it
This guy is amazing without a doubt!!
For those that haven't heard it before The Blowers Daughter is one of the most amazing songs ever.
Thank you so much Lys ! This moment when he understand this awfull news... 8'( So moving...

She didn't write the song, but she still made the song in my view.
This is so sad and happy at the same time. #RIPSinead

How touching. Beautiful
It's been seven hours and fifteen days

I'd fall apart trying to sing that on the spot, "Like a bird without a song..."
That's lovely - lovely the Spanish people giving him an assist. Thanks, Damien for risking it.
Beautiful

R.I.P BEAUTIFUL SINEAD ❤
❤❤❤❤❤taría bueno una versión de estudio..su voz como siempre mágica..
Canto muy lindo a pesar que no se la sabia toda la letra ❤❤❤
Im with you
Sinead.❤
Serious arrogance and disrespect. I could have done a better version myself. At least know the chords and lyrics.
Very disrespectful crowd. Constant talking and shouting at him like he’s a dancing monkey. EVERYONE is there, not just you, have some consideration, keep your mouth closed and enjoy the gig.
There were some idiots in the audience who had no clue, hats of to those who did and who were quiet.
❤❤❤😥💔💔💔
Up JESUS
I was there. It was quite beautiful. 🥲
Theres always a few whoopers in the audience who have no clue when to shut up
❤
No matter the concert, there's always a woman chatting away during every song.
You know you’re a musician when can entertain an entire room of drinkers in a different country and don’t even known the song. Pro ball…
Nevermind nevermind nevermind
Not sinead’s though, it was written by prince for another band, Sinead recorded a version years after the original and the rest is history
We KNOW
yeah no shit bro
Yes the whole world knows by now.
have you only just found out
This song actually fits his voice very well. Seriously...🙄
Опять, я как дура не верю
He's such a spoofer. He's prepared this
Disrespectful in the circumstances to attempt to perform this song when clearly unable to.
I'm still stunned
