It’s so cute and funny how there was a first former who worshipped Alison the same way she hero worshipped everyone else. It really gives her a taste of her own medicine, and she’s far kinder to Joan than most of her idols are to her (though I think it would’ve been funny if she mentioned how she burnt Rita’s French prep once when Joan broke her frame, or if she coaxed Joan into admitting she was the thief by saying she’s worried the others suspect her due to Alison being the only person who wasn’t stolen from). The same way there are another pair of twins introduced to mirror the O’Sullivans (literally). It shows how mature they’ve become when they scold them for the same behavior they engaged in as first formers. I realized there’s a midnight feast in literally every one of these books except Summer Term (in the later books, it’s held by the lower formers instead of the main characters), unlike Malory Towers when there was only one in the original series. The character names keep getting more and more vintage- I didn’t even know Morag and Phyllis were names. The characters do get a bit repetitive- Priscilla is just a copy of the previous three sneaks (Elsie, Erica and Prudence), even sneaking on a midnight feast like the former two and being forced to leave the school like the latter two. But at least she’s kind of necessary for Joan’s interaction with Alison. That was definitely the highlight of this book, and I wish they would’ve interacted more.
