I like what you said about accumulating a library. That the CD is there when you want it. I get so tired when people ask me why do I need so many CDs (and I only have around 2000). I've been collecting since then mid 80s but during that time I got married and raised a family and also love to read. I've recently retired and the children are grown so it's a joy now to listen to music (like you I sit in front of my stereo and concentrate on the music). So many people today just stream music in the background while they do other things. They never understand the joy of a music library and to be devoted to the music seriously.
That's almost my experience, Steve. I always enjoyed music, but during my years of being a production manager time was limited. Having now retired about three years ago I now have a lot more time to listen and build back the collection I once had of vinyl plus a lot of new discoveries. My collection fits on three shelving units, two 960's and one smaller about 600 so my capacity is around 2,500 and is not completely full (although I'm getting there). Lately I'd guess I listen to half a dozen albums a day, sometimes while doing other things. I also tend to watch one or two classic movies a day in the evening. I also have a DVD and blu-ray collection that takes up what used to be a dining room. I have no idea how many are in there. I should try to calculate that sometime.
I own 15,000 CD's. Listening to the CD's I bring in, displaying and categorising has became a personal hobby that I have enjoyed for years and for me, the space i have designated, it has replaced a "typical" man cave that most men may have. I listen to 5-8 CDs a day and I 'm a draftsman.
I still have all of my CDs which number only in the hundreds and people think I'm weird for not switching to digital/steaming. I am very picky about what I like so that is why my collection is in the hundreds rather than thousands. I enjoy nearly all genres of music and despite this I have trouble finding albums that I want to listen to. So I listen to the same albums dozens of times. And the number of new albums I buy has been steadily decreasing every year. I probably bought less than five last year. As I get older and work from home now, I've learned to really enjoy silence.
My biggest problem of the moment is listening to backlog. I have nearly 2400 CDs, 2100 LPs and probably 75 or so box sets. Between March-July 2020 when I was working remotely (I am also an architect) I was listening to 6-8 hours of music a day on Spotify though my headphones. I discovered so much new stuff and went down so many rabbit holes that I ended up buying so many albums (mainly CDs) that I built up a backlog of almost 400. The new discoveries along with new release purchases just started to feel overwhelming. I have a 2 year old daughter so it's hard to get listening time in, but I usually get about 2-3 hours in a night and have also tried my hardest to catch up. I am now at around 80 items. I want to get though all of them so I can start re=enjoying the stuff already in my collection. I feel such an obligation to listen to stuff I haven't listened to yet.
Fortunately I don’t get a backlog based on how many albums I listen to a day. My biggest issue is keeping up with how fast I go through albums and what’s next on my list.
Hi Brendon, I havde 8000 to 9000 CDs. I listen to about 6 hours of music per weekday, and 10 or 12 on weekends. I don't watch TV much, just hockey games with our Jets. I do spend an hour or so watching TH-cam videos. I like to listen closely to music so I rarely do anything else at the same time. Thanks for a great video!
The beauty of a massive collection is you have many options. I have a library of books, and even though I’m unlikely to read them all, I have great options.
Refreshing that despite the CD collection, you're still happy to stream : -) Some purists would have to rip their collection to ogg or flac, and then carry several terabytes of data (although I think the largest microSD card is 1TB, ... so your collection would span several.) Streaming definitely has it's place, I like Spotify making suggestions of bands I might be interested in, and the mixes of related bands, I've found new bands to follow that way,.. but then I go buy the CDs : -)
Awesome video. I get the same question all the time. Isn't a few albums enough??? Especially the younger kids today who stream everything. Love the library comment. I've tried to explain that but people don't get it. I love I have access to my music 24/7 and can listen to an album in my collection anytime, anywhere.
Enjoy your show Brendon. I recently started my cd collection. I am enjoying it. Today I went to a second hand store that has used cds for sale. Hidden treasure type thing. I found a few gems. Well, keep it up. Good watch.
Twelve albums in a day is a fair amount. I tend to listen to around 4, maybe 5, but repeated, listening through headphones connected to my system or wireless cans to my phone when streaming is more convenient, i also listen via speakers be it my systems or bluetooth. I enjoy sitting in my listening chair, tuning everything else out, and just enjoying albums new or repeated listens of favourite records. it is for me a pure joy, my happy place, to get away from the world and just let the melodies and lyrics take me on a new or beloved path. Music is a pleasure, one which has helped me in life. Building my collection is like assembling a crew, piloted by the best, personal best, I should say, musical guides. Long may your journey continue, and your channel thrive.
Nice video! I really appreciate you for breaking down how many CDs you listen to per day! If I didn't watch so much TH-cam, then I'd probably be able to listen to at least 6-7 per day. But since I do watch TH-cam, 3 albums per day is the minimum amount for me.
@@BrendonSnyder Ah ok, I don't watch music videos anymore. But I watch a lot of Disney content, Sea of Tranquility, concerts, and stuff like that. Like you said, it's all based on preference and what makes us feel good.
And I in turn am jealous of your family life. So it goes both ways. But we make due with what we have. I figure while I’m single and have more time to really try and enjoy it. Who knows when it might change.
A man after my own heart! I listen to music as much as I possibly can and am amassing a decent collection. If you haven’t already I’d love you to do a vide on your hifi system
Nice to see your stereo set up. I have a 164 CDS. Some of them are from the 80s when I was in high school. I like the look of a classic 80s CD. I also have 60 records and about 40 45rpm singles. They are all albums I really like. Everyone has their own way of collecting music. I am more Quality over Quantity and buy what I like or it will sit on the shelf and not get played. Either way, it's entertaining to see you collecting and listen to all the knowledge about bands and their discography. 😊❤👍
I agree it has to be quality first. I’m the same way. Even though my collection is large I’m very particular about what is in it. I only have albums that I enjoy and want in my collection. I never do blind buys or just add CD’s to add CD’s. Just happens I like a lot and buy a lot! 😂
Is that a Grassroots Grassroots CD I see!? Man, LOVE those 60s Folkrock guys and the entire Folkrock movement in general, including The Byrds and The Beau Brummels. I've got 15 000 CDs in my collection and my favourite genres are 60s and 70s poprock, 70s singer songwriter, Soft Rock and 60s subgenres like Soft Pop and Sunshine pop/Popsike. I'm really not into Heavy Metal or Hard Rock but I love learning about music genres I know little about and that's why I enjoy this marvellous channel by Brendon. Sure, I have some Queen, KISS and Journey in my collection but that's about it. My family think I've got waaay too many CDs but personally I don't agree! I only collect CDs I WANT in my collection and listen to approximately 10 CDs a day, not necessarily going thru the whole CDs but favourite tracks and such although I DO love playing my albums from start to finish to get that nice flow.
@@BrendonSnyder Thats great! I forgot to mention I'm a huge country and folk music fan too and ca 3000 of my CDs are Country/ Country Rock and Folk/Folkrock. Do you like Country music too, Brendon?
Very nice video, Brendon. That type of video that only a collector would appreciate, I guess. I am married and have a child but I do manage to squeeze in quite a lot of music listening in my routine. I grew up hearing music and none of it was newborn/baby orientated and I think I turned out quite ok with a huge passion for music. And that's how I can spend time with my daughter while listening to Kansas records, like today, for example. Very nice explanation about owning so many cds. I have around 1800-1900 and of course maybe years go by without listening to certain ones, but I know they are there and available to me. I kept a music listening diary for the entire 2020 and I think the average was around 7 albums a day. Of course, being able to listen to music in work and also working from home a few days a week helped a great deal. Nothing better that putting a cd on and dive into it, really giving it full attention.
Not only that cds 💿 are more easier to organize on a bookshelves and there cheaper compare to records 📀💿💿👍👍👍 they take up less space and easier to take care of
Another interesting topic, Brendon. I’ve seen the video about how you store them, but I’m interested in how you keep track of what you have and how that informs what you need or are looking for. Have a great day.
I’m interested into knowing how you know where each album is in your collection .I numbered all mine and have made a list using excel which is on my pc so if I want to find a particular artist or album I type it in and it tells me which number it is , my collection is only 1500 so it’s no where near as large as yours but I update my list at end of each month to keep it up to date . Also have you ever purchased an album then realised you already had it in your collection 😲 I’ve done that several times
Quite interesting Brendon! I must say. I think that is the reason why I have so many CDs as well what do I want to listen to? Oh yes x and y. Yesterday I listened to Hits by Phil Collins. I had forgotten to listen to him on Sunday his birthday. So I made it up yesterday. Didn’t get all the way through. Today I listened to an album in reverse order. The album: US Artist: Peter Gabriel. It definitely gives the album a different feel. I had this idea came to me suddenly. First song I thought of was “Secret World” Boom a new way to listen to the albums.
I used to keep track of the records that I'd listen to in a day and it varied from 7 to 10 with peaks at 12-13. That's the physical albums and the music I listen to on my mp3 player during my whereabouts. Cheers!
Yeah that sounds like my range too. But I’m sure there are days I do 15 or more. I really just depends on my schedule and how much I’m enjoying something. With such a big collection it allows me to go down the rabbit hole and have a lot of fun.
Great topic and I think you’ve ‘ normalised’ music listening/collection on your channel which has been very helpful to folk . Music is my number one passion and I think that’s great , I feel lucky really but I am aware that can seem strange to others ! Keep on spinning 😵💫
Yeah it’s funny when I started my channel mostly I thought who would care because no one would be like me. As it turns out it’s helped make me and others feel normal which is nice.
I'm a music enthusiast who collects primarily jazz and R&B. I focus on Redbook CDs,SACDs and XRCDs. I study the artist and th engineers who transfer their analog tapes to the various mediums available today. I probably have around 5,000 Cds and Vinyl Records. It's my library and I have enjoyed building it and treaching my family and friends the history and beauty of Jazz and R&B. Most folks may not understand our passion for music and often times are unable to appreciate our journey and the pure pleasure we get from collecting and listening to our treasures. That's cool cause in ain't stopping us any time soon lol...
Hi Brendon at the moment I am listening to Mike Campbell and the dirty knobs listened to it 3 times now very good I don't have as many cds as you only 1500 👍
Hi Brenden, Great channel. It seems more like you have an archived collection. You don't just buy anything but do your due diligence first. I have about 4k, but usually do a lot of artist and album research though I allow for finds and serendipity in record shops etc. I actually got a great well mastered Astrud Gilberto hits collection at the Goodwill for $4 a few years ago and discovered Gin Wigmore Gravel and Wine based on nothing more than a cd album cover. 2 moments of serendipity. I used to hit the old Tower Records in lower Manhattan back in the day for browsing. I think I picked up the lp Rough Mix by Townsend and Ronnie Lane there that I still have today, that's close to 40 years ago!
Very true. Unless I know the artist I don’t buy anything without checking it out first. I’m particular about what goes into the collection. For me it’s not just about having a big number of albums. It’s that I actually want all of the albums and they happen to add up to a big amount.
@@BrendonSnyder I forgot the word I use for my or your collection, A "Curated" Collection. Always more valuable and meaningful when someone put thought into what they like rather than just buy the latest craze. Just arrived here in the mail today, all 3 Badlamenti Twin Peaks soundtracks in mint condition, an Ebay find. Sometimes buying off ebay can be a drag with discs in bad condition. Decluttr shop I have had the worst return rate with, but they often just credit me the disc and don't want it back. They claim everything is in Very Good condition, but I find that is not often the case, lol. Just got Prince Emancipation and one of the 3 discs wasn't even a Prince disc! smh.
Such an interesting dynamic between buying as much music as we collectors do and actually finding time to listen to it all. I’m the kind of person who has new stuff coming in all the time, like you, so in order to really learn and know an album, multiple listens are required. I like to really feel something about the music I’m listening to, if you know what I mean. Learning albums front to back is so much easier when you are a young person. As an adult I find there is so much more product to consume in so many different ways, it’s really difficult to know a record as well as it was when I was a younger person. Sure there will be new records coming out that we absolutely love and will know by heart, but I have come to the realization that there are many others that will never be imbedded in our minds like we’d want them to be. I know that I really know an album when I can hear in my mind the beginning of the next track about to come in while the current track is fading out. That’s when I really know an album. I wish they could all be this way, but I know at 55 years old there is stuff in my collection that just isn’t going to get the royal treatment like most stuff did when I was much younger and had fewer responsibilities in life. Gotta just find the time and whatever way is best for you to enjoy as much of your music as you possibly can, all the while juggling other responsibilities in life. I will say that while a lot of people look down on it, I say thank God for streaming. Without it we would all have far less time to spend with our collections. Life evolves and so does technology. Streaming is a big deal for listening to music on the go and also for being able to try out a band or album before deciding to purchase. We don’t all work from home and we can’t bring our record collections with us. I put all my music on my phone and use that tool to its fullest. In my car alone is when I really have the fewest distractions and can really devour music and be able to get what I want out of my listening experience. Just gotta do you and enjoy what you can. Rock On!
interesting...i work at home so i can have stuff playing all day...i usually start the day with folk at 4am...then classic rock and metal all day til evening where i usually listen to jazz or classical...cheers
Great video Brendon!!! Nice to hear how much music you fit into your day. I simply can't live without music need it on at all times, well deducting the sleeping hours :D
I have around 2500 CDs and now have probably matched that number with downloads, mainly from iTunes or Amazon mp3- so I'm at around the 5000 mark. I also stream a lot as I work at home and listen to everything through my laptop and speaker system thats set up in my home office space. I'll still buy new releases and remaster/remixes from favourites - like the new Tull nad the recent Sabbath Technical Ecstasy. I'd also buy CDs from bands that dont have their music on streaming services if they are interesting enough - such as Quill's Riding Rainbows or Tallis' In Ali Musica Spero, and if a stream sounds really good I'll either buy the download or physical product, just to have it available in my library. On a day when I'm not in meetings I'd listen to around 5 to 6 hours or so of music. I'll usually listen to a couple of new CDs or downloads, then I'll stream something that I've heard about and want to check out, then I'll either pick a band or artist and set their albums to play in sequence, or I'll click on one of my own compiled anthologies. By which time its usually around 6 pm and time to go make the evening meal for the family and settle down to watch TV for a couple of hours. Weekenads will depend on what I've got lined up to do - or what I've had lined up for me. Usually though It'll be a bit less than during the week. I've uploaded all my CDs onto an external hard drive on which I also store my downloads. I have set up a library with a number of folders that are Rock, Metal, Prog, Jazz, Fusion, Pop and General, Orchestral, Easy Listening and Soundtracks. Each has one or more subfolders by region- so that I can choose UK , European, US/Canada, Worldwide, and Various Artists - if a band is a mix I'll usually put it in the more dominant or more intuituve place - so Transatlantic goes in US Prog, while The Flower Kings will go in European. Most of my CDs live in storage shelving in my loft though I have my favourite bands on shelves in my office where I also store my 400 or so vinyl records, even though I dont have a turntable to play them on at them moment, however I still like to pore over the sleeve when listening - around 95% of my vinyl is on CD and in my hard disk library as well.
Sounds like you have quite the collection too. And it’s always good to have a back up. Just make sure it’s also stored in the cloud incase your hard drive fails.
@@BrendonSnyder Yeah - been there and got the t-shirt a couple of years ago, thankfully I was able to re download the iTunes albums but did have to re-rip all my CDs - now I have three hard drives - one 4TB for use and one of the same size for back up storage and a 2 TB for downloads.
I personally have always had too much external stuff to deal with to listen to as much music as you. Hence my mad music collecting slowed down. Life gets in the way.
Nice post, Brendon. Try to listen to as many cds each day that can. Some days are better than others as do have a bit of backlog built up. Seems like if really like a new cd that won't take it out of rotation for a bit. Good problem to have, lol.
No back log. I listen as I get them and keep them out until I feel I’ve properly heard the album. But I didn’t worry about how many listens an album gets. Just that I’ve given it a proper listen. If it clicks then it gets more listens. If not it might get filed away sooner.
Do people question why people collect stamps, coins, physical video game media, Hot Wheels, etc? But for music, collecting physical media has several practical purposes vs a lot of other collecting hobbies. Ownership vs rental, appreciation of value depending on when you buy, sell and what you paid, enjoyment of the artwork, package, access when, how you want, lossless audio without paying premium streaming, loan/ borrow/trade, albums and tracks not available on streaming loan, having a backup if rips are lost, lossless rips and physical backups to blank media, etc
Enjoy your show just discovered rush have bought all the studio stuff on your show you had tank box is this still availabe to buy cannot find it anywhere.
It sure is! I just pulled out 8 albums to listen to this evening. If one doesn’t strike my fancy I’ll just move onto others….because there is always more!
Media Collecting can be a generational thing too Those born into the download, stream era post 2000 have never known how restricted music access was prior to mp3 era. You HAD to go to a store or browse a paper catalog and buy mail order and wait for it to arrive. There was no low cost, quick way to duplicate music- quality cassette blanks cost too much, and copying music in realtime a hassle, with too many tweaks and settings to worry about both the source and deck, at least until the 90s when decks that auto set everything became commonplace and lower cost. So those of us who grew up prior to the 90s have no issues dealing with large physical media collections and playing media with focused listening
In my twisted life, i have exactly 951 CDs, Vinyl & Cassettes. In a typical 7 day week i listen to 2 albums from beginning to end & on days when i don't listen to a full album i usually listen to 2 or 3 songs a day to cheer me up or to mellow out. Also i don't like watching TV so i just surf the net or watch a film on DVD.
Since you're an architect, what do you think of a dome house made of steel for Florida living? The upper beams go from the center to the outward walls like the spokes on a bicycle tire.
I was wondering if you have any strategy for big batches? I often find myself neglecting certain albums in favour of others when I get many new. But maybe that's the beautiful thing about a library, that I can go back to those albums whenever I want to.
Yeah there are albums sometimes I realize I haven’t listened to in years and then pull out. But like you said that is the beauty of a library. It’s there for when I want it.
Great video Brendon. I would say I might have around the same amount of cds. Since I listen to many different genres of music, not just classic rock or heavy metal. For instance today I'm listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd's first.. the complete muscle shoals album on cd. By far my favorite Skynyrd cd. Y'all outta take a listen. Rickey medlocke was in the band for that one album then quit to form blackfoot. He played drums but because of a child hood illness with one lung he could not play drums since it takes alot of energy out of you. So he took up guitar, formed blackfoot and now he's back in Skynyrd.
I'm married and own about 30,000 cd's or at least 20,000 I think I could probably get through five Cd's or vinyl a day which I will try once I get my library all appetized I'm up to letter M as they just finished building my custom basement and the Cd racks.
Do you have ANY soundtracks in your library, such as the Miami Vice TV Series collaborations? I highly recommend the original Miami Vice Soundtrack (1985) and the MV Soundtrack Vol. 2 (1986.) BOTH soundtracks have songs you won't find on an original album. You will definitely love the AOR rocker When The Rain Comes Down by Andy Taylor (of Duran Duran fame) from the latter MV soundtrack. Andy shreds just like never before on this track. I have this soundtrack on BOTH vinyl and cd. I bought it on cd (online) just for that song alone, which cannot be streamed, apparently. There are several videos of it here at YT, though. And the track is NOT on Andy's 1987 solo debut LP "Thunder," either. MV also had a Vol. 3 soundtrack in 1988 (an import,) but it's super rare and hard to find. Most of the songs you can find on other albums or soundtracks, like Don Henley's Dirty Laundry. Do you have ANY of the OOP soundtracks from the 80's such as Iron Eagle (1986 Louis Gossett Jr. action film, which features several AOR/melodic rock gems, including the title track by King Kobra and Queen's Top 20 album rock radio hit and minor Hot 100 hit pop single One Vision,) Over The Top (1987 Sly Stallone action drama, which features Sammy Hagar's smash Top 5 album rock radio hit Winner Takes It All,) Youngblood (1986 Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves hockey-based action drama, which features Starship singer Mickey Thomas' hard to find minor album rock radio hit Stand In The Fire) or Best of the Best (1989 Martial Arts action film, which features Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi's solo Top 5 album rock radio hit Something So Strong, a forgotten AOR/melodic rock classic)? Andy Taylor's only Top 40 hit Take It Easy from the 1986 action drama American Anthem (starring U.S. Olympic gymnast Mitch Gaylord, in an acting role) is extremely hard to find, likewise. That soundtrack is OOP, too. I'm NOT even sure either that one or Youngblood is even on cd. Neither soundtrack sold many units.
Dang man I can't stay up past 9 lol and I only have about 300 CDs in my collection and over 100 vinyl but I listen to alot of the same CDs and vinyl I guess I need to change it up more.
I'm curious, do you try to listen to all your new acquisitions before you file them, or wait until the mood hits? I have ten days from day of purchase to return used stuff at my goto used cd seller, so I try to get to them quickly in case there is a problem with playback. New stuff from Amazon etc tends to wait unless I'm really excited to get to it. I have about 10 box sets (so 60 to 90 cds) I still need to get to.
Oh yes absolutely they sit out for weeks before moving to a new acquisitions box that stays the whole year. Then I first file away a box by year like 2021. Then after a couple years they will get filed into the artist location and specific box. But I like to really enjoy new albums.
Hey Brendan. Great videos. I appreciate your effort. Could I just ask for one request? Could something be said about Johnny Zazula? He passed away earlier today. I am from N.J., and I met Johnny years ago. Very nice man. Very determined man. RIP.
It will be covered as I always do in my weekly show Music News Roundup every Friday. Tune in this week and you’ll hear a tribute to the legendary man who gave us some many great thrash bands.
I love listening to all of my cds in rotation. I'm currently photographing all of my cds/dvds,473 in total and putting them in my photoblog. The link is in my TH-cam channel bio.
I own just a few cd's. I'm more of the type of buying a cd if I really really love it ! After all this time, since I've always been so obsessed with music, I'm learning to enjoy music in a better way by accident! earbuds start to malfuction, my job doesn't allow me much to pay attention to music, the gym is always with the music loud, and so on.. So, I just make time to actually listen to the music, and I realize that I enjoy a certain specific style or genre. MY question would be ..how did you get to know so many artists ? not much about how do you listen to that many albums..
Do you rip them to lossless digital format such as flac or alac and listen them to from a PC into your system ? Makes it easy to find and track your collection.
No just keep them as is. While I do steam, I never got into listening to things digitally. I like the act of finding and pulling out the Cd and inserting it into the player. Good memories.
Hey Brendon. I really love your channel. I have kind of an odd question maybe for one of your next Q&A’s, but how hard is it to access your stacked boxes that are near the bottom of your columns when your looking for albums to listen to? I have kind of a similar set up and sometimes I’ll stay away from the boxes at the bottom for a while just because it can be a pain getting to them, but when I finally do I’ll be really surprised or forget what I had in there. Do you have a system to get to those that makes it easier, or do you just have to move everything off to get to them. Just wondering if you had the same problem I do. Anyways sorry for the long question. I hope it made sense. Thanks for the great videos.
I listen to 'on average' between 2 and 6 full individual albums a day. But, if I'm really enjoy something it maybe on multiple repeats. Well, you know what I mean, its a difficult question to answer.
It sure is. I’ve been getting this question for 2 years and wasn’t quite sure how to make a video that could properly answer the question while still being interesting. But hopefully this video achieved both.
Thanks for sharing. Always appreciate your videos. Maybe I missed it, but do you listen mostly on headphones? I find living in apartment I cannot play as much as I like without headphones. No point in listening on low volume 😊
I only use headphones during my commute and at the office. Otherwise I love the speakers. I’m not one for loud music. I prefer a volume that’s doesn’t disturb others since I live in an apt.
Is there a certain kind of music you reserve for listening to in the background? I can imagine you may not wanna have something on in the background that, ordinarily, you would wanna pay close attention to.
Hi Joe, I appreciate your interest but I’m keeping the two worlds separate. I just mention that I’m an architect to help people understand who I am. But during my next Q&A which will be announced soon, feel free to ask a question about it if you want.
Wow. There is no way I could listen to 12 albums per day. I just have too many other interests..I listen to about 3 hours of music per day..Usually its not whole albums, but different songs and genres..So if an avg. album is an hour, I guess I listen to about 3 albums per day...However, I usually watch about 5 hours of TV per day..Just my preference...
I don’t like to listen very loud so my neighbors never hear me. They often think I’ve moved out then see me months later and are surprised because they never hear me 😂
@@BrendonSnyder ok cool. i was just wondering because you never said anything about playing guitar when going over your day. thanks for answering my question.
Haha…at the time of making this video I lived in NYC and had no need for a car. So riding the subway meant streaming. Plus it’s just easier to stream. But now I like in NJ, own a car and lucky it’s old enough to have a CD player.
If in one day you played the kiss and Aerosmith 70s catalog and Van halen Roth era CD’s you would get a big total of cds listened to in a day because those cds are so short Diver Down 28 minutes long and for some trivia Kiss dressed to kill record / cd there seems to be a longer gap between songs done on on purpose I read because the music time was so short But that being said I find bands put to much music on a cd and you can get burnout plus always some filler and I like a 40 - 50 minutes new cd that’s Quilty
Why don’t you have all of your CDs downloaded onto iTunes and listen to that on your phone instead of streaming? ( I had to upgrade to 512 gig iPhone to do this ) mind you 12000 albums, it would probably take you 3 years to do this . 😅
Because streaming allows me to check out things I don’t own. Listen to new singles as they drop and stream new releases before I can get to the store to buy them. There is a lot more out there than the 12,000 CDs I own. Streaming provides access to that.
Listening to CDs for many hours every day could damage your ears. especially listening at high volume levels- especially Heavy metal, etc. ps, Have you had a hearing test lately ?
Listening to anything loud for many hours a day could damage your ears, not just Heavy Metal. That said, I didn’t mention anything about listening to the albums loud enough to warrant such a question.

@@BrendonSnyder And I have so many CD's and cassette tapes many are still factory sealed and mint!😄
Sounds pretty good
Don't hoard it, just give or sell it away.
💿💿💿cds forever better sound quality u own the music and support the artist 📀💿💿📀📀📀💽💽💽💽💽
Exactly! I love options because you never know what you’ll be in the mood for and when!
60% of the stuff I have isn't on streaming services.
Wow. Up to 11000 cds now. My collection is around 1600. Mostly classic rock.
Enjoy your show Brendon. I recently started my cd collection. I am enjoying it. Today I went to a second hand store that has used cds for sale. Hidden treasure type thing. I found a few gems. Well, keep it up. Good watch.
Thanks for sharing I listen too my music every day
Love the video
You’re welcome Landon!
Thank you so much Joe! I appreciate the support and glad to hear how much you’re enjoying things! It keeps me going.
Brendon, very interesting video. I am lucky too because it work i can listen music all the time. Super video
If I had to wait all day to hear something I’d be miserable so thank goodness we can listen while we work!
Nice video! I really appreciate you for breaking down how many CDs you listen to per day! If I didn't watch so much TH-cam, then I'd probably be able to listen to at least 6-7 per day. But since I do watch TH-cam, 3 albums per day is the minimum amount for me.
It’s all in what makes you feel good. I like watching TH-cam for music videos.
@@BrendonSnyder Ah ok, I don't watch music videos anymore. But I watch a lot of Disney content, Sea of Tranquility, concerts, and stuff like that. Like you said, it's all based on preference and what makes us feel good.
Wow like you said everyone has different situations. I do enjoy my family and life but still very envious of your time for music.
The other video that I reference called “How To Listen To 9,000 CD’s” covers the equipment I use, see link th-cam.com/video/YHRkUgPZ7Q0/w-d-xo.html
Great show and I agree with you on owning a library full of music.
👍
@@BrendonSnyder HI Brendan. I have 173 CDs. When someone says, you have a lot of CDs I jokingly say, "I am one purchase away from happiness." 😊
Yes, I love the Grass Roots too!
Hey managing 7 albums a day with a family is really good. And I agree it’s nice if you can work it in with the family too.
I thought I was the only one who kept a music listening diary. I thought I was nuts keeping one.
No it sure isn’t! I’d be collecting and finding the enjoyment in it even if no one else was able to understand it.
Hi Brendon at the moment I am listening to Mike Campbell and the dirty knobs listened to it 3 times now very good I don't have as many cds as you only 1500 👍
Im enjoying The Dirty Knobs new album as well.
Just got Prince Emancipation and one of the 3 discs wasn't even a Prince disc! smh.
Očisti radijator!
👍
Really interesting video. I prefer to listen in the car or when indoor bike training.
👍
Like you said, schedule and other commitments factor in. My commute is an hour so I can get two in both ways usually.
👍
I will often start with “quieter” style music like acoustic in the morning. Unless of course there is a new release or something.
Great video Brendon!!! Nice to hear how much music you fit into your day. I simply can't live without music need it on at all times, well deducting the sleeping hours :D
Me too. I have to have music in my life all the time.
No the Tank boxset is long out of print.
I usually listen to 8 - 12 albums a day. That's the beauty of a huge collection.
It sure is! I just pulled out 8 albums to listen to this evening. If one doesn’t strike my fancy I’ll just move onto others….because there is always more!
Media Collecting can be a generational thing too
Those born into the download, stream era post 2000 have never known how restricted music access was prior to mp3 era.
That’s great that you’ve got a system that works for you.
Since you're an architect, what do you think of a dome house made of steel for Florida living? The upper beams go from the center to the outward walls like the spokes on a bicycle tire.
Since this is a music channel I keep those two worlds separate. Architect is what I do for a living but music is the passion.
That’s pretty good for being married and having outside responsibilities. 👍
I’ve always been a late night person. I used to stay up until 2 or 3….so I have mellowed in my old age going to bed at midnight 😂
Good luck! 👍
People have libraries of books that they maybe read once or twice. Music albums can easily be listened to many times.
Exactly! 👍
I’ve made a video about how to find new bands (whether actually new or just new to you), see link th-cam.com/video/e3Z-mvXtxp8/w-d-xo.html
Yeah that Eddie money covers cd is great. I was going to buy the album but found the cd instead
So much better on CD and for a lot less!
I only got 39 cds. I listen 1 to 3 album per day without skipping, I dont skip track.
It's about having OPTIONS! And access to these documents in time and space! (Some of that idea comes from Robert Plant, lol.)
I have a lot of cds but if I find something I really like something might not get another chance for a month. Then I only listen a hour or so each day
I get into particular moods and will deep dive on specific bands, genres, etc.
That takes care of his daily exercise quota!
I prefer a volume that’s doesn’t disturb others since I live in an apt.
i play cds 7 a days right now i know all music since i was born 😃👍
Hi Brandon, what do you use to listen to your records/vinyl
A record player…😂, jk….an old Panasonic. May be updating to a Denon soon but that also means upgrading my whole stereo system too.
Just wondering did you pre order new Saxon cd and when can we check out you're review and unboxing
Yes I did and I will do a review and unboxing that will probably post Saturday as long as it arrives Friday.
today for me it's only Deep Purple - 1990 Slaves and Masters and DEUS - 2011 Keep you Close 🎶
oups! and 1989 Don Johnson - Let it Roll 👍
Good stuff!
Is there a certain kind of music you reserve for listening to in the background? I can imagine you may not wanna have something on in the background that, ordinarily, you would wanna pay close attention to.
24 a day for a year and 3 months ……..Ready, set, GO- start listening!! (No sleeping.) 👍👍👍
…not all albums are 60 mins
BTW To create an optimal listening experience, how long do you think an album should be?
If I had that many, I'd rip them to my computer and have a server.
Do you have anything by guided by voices The fall
No, neither one are really my cup of tea.
Are you ever going to show some of your architectural sketches in a video, if you haven’t already?
Hi Joe, I appreciate your interest but I’m keeping the two worlds separate. I just mention that I’m an architect to help people understand who I am. But during my next Q&A which will be announced soon, feel free to ask a question about it if you want.
No wife, no kids, just a load of music.
I knew he was happy for a reason lol..
😂😂😂
Yeah it’s whatever works for you. Music is my main interest. Everything else is secondary.
@@BrendonSnyder yes I see that from your vids.
How do your neighbors react to all the music playing if u don’t mind me asking
I don’t like to listen very loud so my neighbors never hear me. They often think I’ve moved out then see me months later and are surprised because they never hear me 😂
@@BrendonSnyder haha good one
I can see you like listening to music a lot, but do you ever make any music or play any instruments?
I play guitar and yes I’ve recorded my own demos.
@@BrendonSnyder ok cool. i was just wondering because you never said anything about playing guitar when going over your day. thanks for answering my question.
@@BrendonSnyder you should release some of it, maybe put it on your channel
Hi,
Is it safe to RIP my CD's to my Macbook ?
I'm afraid the data in my CD would be damaged / lost
Thanksss
It’s certainly safe but unnecessary IMO. I’ve got CD’s that are nearly 40 years old and never had one stop playing for me.
Do you have live concert boots?
A few
@@BrendonSnyder they make up about 400 iny 2k collection. How much would you sell your copy of green on red gravity talks cd or wild turkey turkey?
If we round to 10 albums/day, for 11K CDs = 1100 days
Just over 3 years to motor through all of em
S-allrite
See! And people said I can’t listen to them all…😂
12 albums a day? Jesus Christ! Where do you find the time?
why not install a cd player in your car instead of streaming?
Haha…at the time of making this video I lived in NYC and had no need for a car. So riding the subway meant streaming. Plus it’s just easier to stream. But now I like in NJ, own a car and lucky it’s old enough to have a CD player.
i play my cds 7 days thru A to Z 😃👍
👍
@@BrendonSnyder yup doing every year since i was a teen 🙂👍
If in one day you played the kiss and Aerosmith 70s catalog and Van halen Roth era CD’s you would get a big total of cds listened to in a day because those cds are so short Diver Down 28 minutes long and for some trivia Kiss dressed to kill record / cd there seems to be a longer gap between songs done on on purpose I read because the music time was so short But that being said I find bands put to much music on a cd and you can get burnout plus always some filler and I like a 40 - 50 minutes new cd that’s Quilty
That’s true, depending on length the number of albums could be a lot higher.
What do you do for living.
Perhaps you asked this before finishing the video as I say in the video I’m an Architect.
@@BrendonSnyder Sir, yes sir!
Maximum 15 a day, unless you are ADD or ADHD listening.
👍
Why cd’s not records
CDs are what I grew up with and better IMO. Vinyl seems like going backwards to me.
LOL - 2 albums a day! Maybe 3...
Still pretty good by most people’s standards.
@@BrendonSnyder Have a nice day !
Thanks, have a great day too.
Don’t ever get married or have kids. Your life sounds pretty perfect. lol.
Iam sorry to tell u but if u have 11000 cds or more u only have about 2000 cds that are good because the rest are crap songs but it’s your choice
I’m sorry to tell you but you have no idea what you’re talking about.
you buy too much 😊✌️
Haha…I know, but it won’t change!
