True story: When we made this it was really painstaking and complicated - this was the era of Atari, Cubase, Akai samplers, and 24-track desks. Took us all night to build it and get a rough mix we liked, by which time it was about 8am and we only had a couple of hours left of our hired studio session. The engineer recorded the rough mix onto cassette - so we could go outside and listen in the car. When we came back in - with quite a few notes on what to change - he said "I hope you liked it. The sampler has crashed. It's all gone". So we were stuck with the rough mix - it was either release that or nothing at all! Which is why it always sounded a bit chaotic to my ears!
Is it true that the reason The Wiseguys ceased to be was due to uncleared sample lawsuits? I remember hearing something a while ago about the riff from "Wild Child" in "Start The Commotion" causing a shitstorm. Also, how did you guys get away with sampling Black Sabbath and CCR? Those are two groups i'd expect to get pissed off upon being sampled.
Sir, what a story! I always appreciate seeing you pop in the comment sections for your songs giving details to the making of your music. Huge props to you and Mr. Eve on this one!
Hey, thx for the response(s)! In fact i LOVE to hear that good ol' funky soul music! Check out my newest mix "God Made Me Gunky" @ my channel - hope it works cause u-tube limited it due to copyright....
