I mean it all depends on the material, I like different flavors , I don’t want the penguin to be guardians of the galaxy, but I don’t want a the Batman toned guardians.
The penguin pilot was spectacular.. best hour of television I’ve seen since Succession… that scene with Cristin Milioti and the penguin at the dining table was intense
They both played it perfectly. The only thing is Sophia wasn't willing to let it go. She couldn't prove he did it. But knew he was smart enough too. She's the only one not really underestimating him.
I just finished the episode and absolutely loved it!
I loved it. It was super dark and gritty, like a comics' show version of Sopranos. All the performances were great.
The Penguin is a legit HBO show. I had high hopes and expectations but was still pleasantly surprised by the first episode. It was very good.
Cristin Milioti is Emmy worthy. One second on screen and you immediately go she's dangerous.
The Penguin is the comic book version of The Sopranos, like how Daredevil was the comic version of The Wire.
I was surprised by how funny the show is. The Penguin complaining about his hamburger when he's about to dump a body is morbidly hilarious. It reminds me of the "leave the gun, take the cannoli" scene from The Godfather.
Disney better take notes because The Penguin is nxt level
If this show can pull off being The Sopranos within the Matt Reeves Batman Universe, we've got an all time great HBO Series.

Lets face it. Audiences still love gritty takes on comic books. So many times I've heard that the gritty comic book style Nolan ushered in was over. That the lighter touch of the MCU ended it and will dominate. Well the MCU is in trouble, except for Deadpool & Wolverine, which certainly has an edge to it. And Matt Reeves Batverse is the only DC property that has survived and is doing well, now with The Penguin.
Marvel also put out Guardians of the Galaxy recently. Same for Miles Morales Spiderverse. So it's not really over. But they need to get rid of the talentless writers.

This is so great, as a huge fan of the Batman and other than Robert Pattinson as the titular vigilante, to me Colin Farrell’s Penguin was probably the second best performance in the film, and that’s not saying much at this point but, I think the way they do this series is phenomenal, and I agree with you John, the scene in the trailer where Oz is sitting in a chair casually and just pulls out the gun and shoots a guy and laughs hysterically afterwards until he realizes what he does and then yells “Oh Fu…..” and then the opening title credits of The Penguin pop up.
I don’t really laugh at the use of the F Word just because, to me it usually feels so unnecessary however, with a guy trying to become the head of Gotham’s Crime Syndicate, and work his way up the ladder it makes sense he would drop that word on more than one occasion, and the first time it was partially dropped, got a chuckle out of me just the way it was executed.
I’m tempted to go into everything I liked about the episode in spoiler detail in this post but, I don’t want to be that jackass that spoils the episode for people who haven’t had a chance to see it yet since it just came out last night.

I loved the first episode ! The acting, the atmosphere, the subtle music notes. This deff made me happy.
I’m excited to watch it, Collin Farrell’s Penguin was the best part of that Batman movie so I hope this is just as good

I usually like to binge on such shows (over a weekend or so). But, with everyone praising it this much...I think I'll just watch it now.

To me the scene where Vic tells Os "I am not a waste". You could tell be Os facial expression that he had someone tell him that before. They are basically the same person. Loved how they looked at the two handicap seats on the subway
I could tell Vic was digging deep to find a reason for Oz not to kill him. Obviously since he begged Oz to spare his life, and offered his services, but Vic definitely knows he’s in over his head, because he’s a good kid just trying to survive, and he knows he has to go all in to have a chance. Something tells me he’s not going to make it out alive, when I was watching a review, I heard Vic betrays Oz somehow while they were developing a father/son relationship and it hurts Oz. I have a feeling Oz is the only one surviving by the end, maybe with a few exceptions, but this show is going to get brutal.

Marvel movies make for entertaining viewing. Experiences on a grand scale reminiscent of a blockbuster film. DC films can make for critically acclaimed feats of cinema that have heart and make one feel a genuine connection with the characters due to the incredible performances by the actors.
I’m hooked!

By the way marvel shows and movies have made sophisticated commentary,from cloak and dagger ,the runaways,luke cage etc...more so then the boys and invincible and dc with watchmen. Oh and i think some marvel shows and movies and better then boys and invincible.

Disney does have films and shows in its catalog that don't fall into the family-friendly category, and I'm sure they'll fit them into Hulu or some other platform. ABC has plenty of shows that skew towards TV-MA, like Scandal, Grey's, etc. Disney also owns Freeform, which does play films and shows that have definitely adult material in them. It has been inching further into that recently, maybe hoping to make the 700 Club crew uncomfortable. :D:

I’m not talking about other shows, this one had a really hyped up response from pundits and reviewers, so I expected to be blown away, similar to how John is reacting here.. but I wasn’t.
I enjoyed it, just wasn’t hitting same highs for me as it seems to be with others, but like I said, I hope I happens sooner or later, as I love this universe.
You can’t please everyone. There will always be people who just don’t fully get it. It’s like succession. It’s top tier television but my friend just thought it was alright & that’s ok. No need to worry about it chief! Glad you at least liked it.
This show is off to an amazing start, it’s phenomenal.

The first 5-10 minutes gives you a great idea of the show is going to be like if you just want to see that
If you're going by that you're really missing out. It cool to listen to credits but I always say check it our for yourself.

So far which isnt much the show is pretty lackluster ad a very off putting filming style that just makes it seem cheap. I know people hate on it but ROP, Halo, and Agatha are pretty solid shows if you just take them for entertainment and they atleast look like they have a budget lol

Also slightly different from the comics. The comics version was more of the muscle. The Penguin version seems to be a mix of crime boss and muscle.

well said about Oz making Vic his lackey. You definitely do see that change in his eye when he hears the stutter if you pay attention.
I love how Penguin still feels like a comic book character. The funny way he walks, his passion for the color purple, and always having It around him, on his fancy car or his clothes. How eccentric he is. Telling you, If he ends wearing a top hat and monocle at some point, It would still feel believable.

I thought it was a pretty good first episode. I feel like the villain for the next Batman movie will be revealed on this show or it'll be the villain's origin, so I'm excited how it goes. I mean the whole point of this series is to lead into The Batman 2, so I would assume that's where they're going with it. I know they said Batman won't be in this series, but I hope they lied, so it'll be a cool surprise moment if he does happen to appear. Lol

I’ve watched the Batman prolly 10 times…I’ve watched this episode twice…I cannot see Colin Farrell. Not his voice, anything. He completely loses himself in this role. It’s crazy

you just perceive this more positive one as “honest” and more correct since it aligns with you’re preconceived notion in your mind where you already decided you like the show.
you’re looking at reviews as moreso a way to justify your fandom, rather than exploring peoples opinions on something.
