      I'm not a huge fan of Peter Jackson's take on the Tolkien universe, but I think he should get Irving to star in one of his movies, even if it's just a short cameo, all he'd have to do is be himself.

    • @jorgepeterbarton
      @jorgepeterbarton 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I think that's because it is Tolkein's LOTR trilogy, just sayin. Yes, he does, dehumanising the enemy is actually sort of like a propaganda tactic. Weird when you think about how ideas like that 'good triumphing over evil monsters' are used in the past but given th time it was written WWII (and obviously something to do with it!) i'd have less qualms about those particular enemies being portrayed negatively. @@Tiger74147 a movie that got into trouble for doing that was 300 of course. I really like these videos. I'm from Turkey and I learned about the basics of Mesopotamian civilisations in school. But these smaller details and stories from everyday life in Mesopotamia give us a fuller picture of what it was like back then. I used to love going to the Anatolian Civilisations Museum in Ankara and would be completely mesmerised by the artefacts there. I now have a British Museum membership and go to the museum often but seeing these artefacts ripped out from where they came from (Turkey, Iraq, Iran) makes me very sad. I especially don't appreciate that they say the British Museum has 'acquired' these items when they were smuggled out of these countries by British archeologists who 'discovered' them. On the other hand, the care and attention that they have given these stolen items are exemplary. I think that the British Museum should be honest about the way they came to be in possession of Hellenic, Mesopotamian, Roman artefacts. Which was through smuggling and thievery. I can still appreciate that they cared more about these items than we could at the time they were excavated, but it's maybe time to repatriate them where possible.

    • @Mavis-u3k
      @Mavis-u3k 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, they were not smuggled out. Sadly the local authorities in these places at the time didn't value these things. The past was just not as important as them as their own present. Also, though it pains me to say this, they were not averse to allowing the artifacts to be removed for a 'consideration'. Please don't allow partiality for your own country to blind you to the failings of previous administrations. The Europeans had the money but more importantly they had the knowledge to recognise the importance these artifacts held for the future understanding of world history. They recognised their value for posterity although, the countries from where they were taken may now regret letting them go the fact is that it was transactional. Please allow the whole world just to be grateful that they were found and were preserved.

    Thank you so much for all those amazing videos!
    It's fascinating to see how ancient civilisations were somewhat "bookmarking" ideas and concepts through very abstract personifications!
    Encoding knowledge and memories through figures that would catch people's attention, dramatically.
