I’ve come across the exact same situation with two different vehicle recently, I advised both customers to remove the tuning box and I have remapped the vehicles and neither have had any problems since, both vehicles have now covered over 2000 miles and reporting no further dpf issues! Keep up the good videos as you are raising awareness on many subjects!
Logical process of elimination. DPF issues started soon after fitting tuning box. Remove box (simple to do) and see if issue returns. If not, you got your answer. Simples😊
Good solid advice. There is so much going on in a modern diesel engine you just can't fit a generic device and expect it to work properly . There's a reason injectors are coded.
Cheers jimmy, yes like many comments here it needs to be disconnected because it’s telling the Pump to overfuel a simple check is take it on a run and power it up a few long hills, the Engine Temp will sit higher than usual and the Engine Oil will blacken quickly.
It will be the problem because all those boxes do is increase the fuel pressure so over the same milliseconds of injection duration with the increased pressure more fuel will be injected into the cylinder on each compression stroke.
I've got one of them. They come with a tune for your vehicle but you can adjust them. I've had mine on for literally years and not a problem. I got it as I tow mostly and the truck tows better with it.
That’s just cheating the air and boost sensor, mate. A proper map would involve tuning your ECU, which is much safer, more consistent, and better overall. I’ve been doing maps for the past 7-8 years, and after my customers get a proper map, those tuning boxes end up in the bin, mate.
I bought a 2015 VW Amarok 2.0 Bitdi and was caught out by a tuning box. DPF light came on one winters morning. Also as same time huge puff of black smoke from exhaust. Further investigation I found the tuning box as it was hidden. Cracked dpf the lot. The moral of the story is over fuelling ends in tears on diesel’s
You're absolutely right. Vehicle manufacturers spend millions on R & D and years of testing to get the best out of their products and make them reliable, although you wouldn't believe it lately. So why do people spend thousands to mess it all up with gadgets that may improve one thing but create issues as a result. Coil overs. I'm gonna piss people off here, there are no benefits to fitting coil overs. Very few, a handful of people know how to set them correctly and have the kit to to do it. Hester in his driveway has no chance. That's just one example of the hazards of the bolt on industry. If you want a happy healthy vehicle AND WALLET, keep it standard keep it well maintained. Nuff said‼️
The keep it well maintained theory is something i wish was so easy. I recently got an mot and major service done, also asking only for a premium oil for the engine and all levels checked and diagnostics etc. all topped up with supreme diesel and now after only five months and two thousand miles, i have p2262. 😞😤
Them 2.3 twin turbo engines are already tuned highly from oem Not designed to be modded. It’s a balanced system that’s already powerful. Buy bigger if you want more. 👍
I have a friend at work whos husband put one of these chip box things on her car and i totally agree its over fueling the commin rail and causing dpf issues shes had the same issue and i don think them tuning boxes give anywhere near the power of a a decent remap
Does sound odd Jimmy , I’d advise the customer to remove it & if & when you do a DPF clean etc , to try it without it for say a month or at least 500 - 1000 miles & check or get them to monitor any lights or messages on the dashboard , so yep get them to take it off bud is my answer , also does his insurance know about that tuning box ? If not they need to declare it asap because they won’t payout if involved in an accident, assessors go over things like this with a fine tooth comb but a proper re-map wouldn’t be noticeable, not my business what they do but just saying Jimmy as you’ve shown this video 👍🤙
Swear i was literally about to mention that exact thing about the catalyst and dpf being the opposite way around,ii believe i watched a vid on scr and its odd but they do this way on Toyota's aswell
If the problems start after you’ve done something new, and then repeated problems at that, I’d be looking at what i did last. I guess common sense isn’t as common as it seems
I think it's a known thing with these plug in tuners. From what I read, the extra power simply comes from more fuel and more turbo pressure. This leads to more soot, and a faster clogging DPF. It might not be a problem with a healthy system, but if it was already struggling a bit, then it would hardly help. Removing the tuning box, then cleaning the DPF and seeing if the problem doesn't come back would be one way to tell. If the DPF is regenerating well and shows no signs of trouble, then you could re-install the thing and then see if the DPF clogs again, if you feel like playing with fire.
Why do people seem to lack common sense these days?. 😄. Yes a tuning box will made a difference. I have seen some remaps tune out the dpf from the ecu, but the truck still had a dpf so it just wouldnt regen and blocked up the dpf within two weeks. 😂
Most of those plug ins increase the fueling and that's all. In my opinion they are a waste of time and money. Get it removed. Get a professional remap.
Mr jimmy this is my 15massge ,no response I have Jaguar 2016 whan I drive coolant go low ,but whan I park open cap coolant again come up few drop on top tank also pipe change no leakage radiator clean engine gasket change but still same problem plz advise me about this problem
DPF & EGR Valve.. the motor industry con .. why would you put recirculate burnt exhaust gases back into the inlet valve… this only destroys power efficiency… It’s a con to make you buy another car when the DPF finally clogs… .. empty the honeycomb shield from the DPF & permanently close the EGR valve… remap.. instantly letting the engine breathe again… increasing power & saving fuel… motor industry con… believe me!!!
Jimmy just gets the basics sorted with one simple question.
The owner needs a refund + 4 visits to Halfords. Your the man Jimmy with common sense.

Remove it and get a proper map.
You're correct. The original design wasn't set up for those add ons. I think it's a good call .
Logical process of elimination. DPF issues started soon after fitting tuning box. Remove box (simple to do) and see if issue returns. If not, you got your answer. Simples😊

I'd trust Jimmy... remove it!
The dpf and leave the tuning box.
Seen a lot of issues with those type of boxes and remaps. Plus it’s a notifiable mod to your insurers
Takeing it off is a good starting point then work your magic from there Jimmy!

@pammy5260 you either have a Boost pipe split or dpf pressure sensor not working or the pipe is blocked if its a diesel.
Them 2.3 twin turbo engines are already tuned highly from oem
Not designed to be modded. It’s a balanced system that’s already powerful.
Buy bigger if you want more. 👍
Remove it, how are you going to diagnose the fault if you can't bring it back to stock? Basic stuff applies to pretty much any complicated system.
Thats why they have the knick name dpf blockers
One of my rules when fault finding is go to the point of human intervention 'where have they been, what have they done'? That's your starting point.
I have a friend at work whos husband put one of these chip box things on her car and i totally agree its over fueling the commin rail and causing dpf issues shes had the same issue and i don think them tuning boxes give anywhere near the power of a a decent remap
i have had one on my Nissan diesel for nearly 10 years and 110k miles. No issues. Better question to ask is what are his driving cycles like
Bang on over fueling causing even more soot build up 👍
some of those work telling the ECU the engine is cold, adding extra fuel. with cold engine it doesnt regen
Maybe it's causing it to stop regen.
I agree on both questions
Get rid of the add on. My opinion is they just sell them to people and don't explain the consequences.
Got the same tuning box for about 8 yrs, didn't have any issues with dpf, maybe it is not the correct box?
Aftermarket parts are usually a problem, but it gets worse with unnecessary aftermarket add-ons.
Dead on… needs to get a proper map done!
You have it right Jimmy
They should have a dead blanking plug to go onto that loom, them
Boxes cause nothing but issues.
Problem is the boxes too generalised... under cruise you don't want extra fuel...
Dont know if these later ones are the same but my cat was blocked on an earlier pathfinder causing issues with regen.
100% I've mapped cars years, tuning boxes are wank
Do not use aftermarket tuning boxes or other plug in ebay/Amazon shite
Your vehicle is already optimized for performance by the manufacturer
Let the customer know his tuning box is the culprit and if he chooses to keep it he will have dpf problems unless he will map it of
Remove it and leave it standard the amount of problems I get with various cars after remap or those tuning boxes
No it’s just a Nissan navara that’s the problem ..and probably put on to try get mpg better aswell…
More tuning/remaps more problems.
More problems with the car, more jobs for mechanic.
Happy days for everyone,as long as car owner keep paying .
Don’t know about those boxes but I ran a remap on my old car for 200,000 miles. DPF was still ok when i sold it.
Bigger question is why would you want a tuning box on an old navara shitbox
Extra fuel extra carbon , extra dpf issues , =EXTRA MONEY OUT , take it off 😂😂
If the problems start after you’ve done something new, and then repeated problems at that, I’d be looking at what i did last. I guess common sense isn’t as common as it seems
💯
Your the man 👨 jimmy knows your job remove it 😊
Could it be just coincidence? The DPF could have been on the verge of showing a fault. What evidence is there to prove it’s the tuning box?
I think it's a known thing with these plug in tuners. From what I read, the extra power simply comes from more fuel and more turbo pressure. This leads to more soot, and a faster clogging DPF. apart from the dpf problem the insurance is invalid, modified vehicle .
Remove it. A tuning box failed putting my car in limp mode, caused over fuelling and blew an Intercooler pipe.
Take it off. I would like to know if it was the unit.
Should go back to TDI if it’s found to be the issue. They can’t fix what they don’t know.
cleaned on a weekly bases would cost more than a new one after 2 weeks,...
New one would also block in the same amount of time
@@ORileysAutos replacing the full system i mean.. thats failing to regen so the filter has gone?
Is the owner a bit thick not to link the 2 situations together..... I hope he takes your advice Jimmy.
Yep
Out and monitor live data ,
Why do people seem to lack common sense these days?. 😄. Yes a tuning box will made a difference.
I have seen some remaps tune out the dpf from the ecu, but the truck still had a dpf so it just wouldnt regen and blocked up the dpf within two weeks. 😂
I would close the bonnet and drive away.
Most of those plug ins increase the fueling and that's all. In my opinion they are a waste of time and money. Get it removed. Get a professional remap.
Throw it in da bin Jimmy
Remove definitely I’ve never liked external tuning box 🤢🤮
no soot, thats interesting
DPF is doing a good job at blocking the soot, that's what it was designed for. :-)
Halfords are daft to keep cleaning it for him with that fitted, or he took it out every time he went to Halfords then the owner is the dip shi*t
Absolutely remove it
Occams razor .
Deffo get rid not worth it!
tuning boxes are not the way to tune a vehicle remove
Remove the Map device brother
100%
Remove it and chuck it in the bin, Those piggy back so called tuning boxes are a complete waste of time and money
Bin it
Yes..these boxes are junk remove the cause of the problem from the root
Manufacturer mods are never a good idea
What about deleting dpf that a final.solution
That’s why you shouldn’t use them shitty boxes… get a proper map mate
Remove it
Mr jimmy this is my 15massge ,no response I have Jaguar 2016 whan I drive coolant go low ,but whan I park open cap coolant again come up few drop on top tank also pipe change no leakage radiator clean engine gasket change but still same problem plz advise me about this problem
15th, and still he hasn't replied doesn't that tell you something, because it does me and it's not hard to figure out,
Come on now give it a rest
Any piggy back tuning boxes are junk. Get a propper remap
These things are shite, get a proper map or remove it and leave it stock 🤙
Take it off immediately
DPF & EGR Valve.. the motor industry con .. why would you put recirculate burnt exhaust gases back into the inlet valve… this only destroys power efficiency…
