My favorite subgenres of metal are Technical death metal and dsbm. I've been a metalhead for over a decade and this is one of my favorite dsbm bands besides Coldworld and Thy Light.
I think there is just enough voice and emotion put into the singing to convey the emotion the vocalist want to put forth, and I think it goes beautifully with the guitars, but after listening to bands like Austere I can kinda see where you're coming from, I just don't think the singing detracts from the quality of the song.

music is good, but singing...please, sing worse! dis is too good quality singing for DSBM
