I am a bit late but we've had so much rain I wanted them to dry out for a couple days before harvest so that delayed me. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous video. Such a beautiful harvest! You have the best helpers too! I still remember helping harvest potatoes at grandpa’s farm more than 30 years ago! It’s funny how I can only remember some things of my childhood and many of them are from summers in the farm.
They really are the best helpers that’s for sure! 😊💚 That is great that you can have those memories, that sounds so special. I remember helping my grandpa in the garden when I was little too. Although I remember eating green beans more than I was helping haha.
We get our onions at the same place. I have grown them from seed, but it does take more time and is not that much cheaper. You can grow them in the ground, but you really need to add the fertilizer early on, and then irrigate them well. They size up according to the top growth before the start bulbing up. It is always good to see the young ones helping out. They really seem to like the root crops also, kind of like an Easter Egg hunt. We give a lot to our church also, usually tomatoes.
It is like an Easter Egg hunt indeed! I love harvesting root crops just as much as they do haha. One of the joys of gardening is sharing with others I think. Sometimes our church foyer looks like a free farmer's market with all the produce local people bring in to share, it's great! One of the perks of living in a rural area where almost everyone gardens :) -Cara
