My father ran a club like the phoenix club in the late 80s. It reminds me of the good old days. I also went to see dave spikey comedy act live in Southport uk where we all sang the black bin bag song 🎵
It's good but the best line in the series is when those dwarves are all piling out of a minibus and Max pipes up "How far away are they?" Up there with Father Ted explaining near and far away to Dougal.
Peter Kay and the guys actually wrote a 3rd series of Phoenix nights in like 2004/2005 but have never gotten round to filming it. Even as recently as 2017 Peter said in an interview that a 3rd series and screenplay have been written but “things keep getting in the way” when it comes to filming it. Peter Kay also said in an interview that they had been approached to do Phoenix nights movie after the success of “the inbetweeners movie” but they never did it. Interesting that a fully written 3rd series is just sitting somewhere collecting dust and that we will probably never see it.
The Hitman & Her was a late night music program presented by music producer Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan. They travelled round the clubs of the UK. A friend of mine who is a DJ, now based in Spain appeared in an episode, Phat Phil.
I'm sorry to say that I was accidentally at Discothèque Royale in Manchester when they were doing an episode... really bad with bright tv lights, like being at a club in broad daylight. Thankfully, they don't stay all night.
Ted Robbins (Den Perry) is the real life brother of Kate Robbins who played the woman who ran the "ladies night" in the previous episode. She is also the mother of Emily Atack who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners.
The guy who plays den Perry in many other things great actor also plays similar type of character in the slammer. great reaction series anyway watched every reaction can't wait for max and paddy
I’m in the camp that likes Max & Paddy, one thing you may notice is their motor home looks different (bigger, different model) as when Peter decided to do the series they realised the one at the end of Phoenix was far to small to film in and make it work.
I'll join you in that camp.... the fact that every episode is different with different characters (Raymond the bastard is fantastic) makes it feel similar to 'that Peter kay thing' and 6 episodes was just enough
the eminem tribute act, top class... that got me, so sad to see another good show come to an end a second time. watched this with my mum all those years ago. thans for the memories bro.
My favourite episode of the whole series, keep up the good work. There have been a lot of requests for Pop Factor but speaking of talent shows, you should react to The Slammer, it was a CBBC show hosted by Ted Robbins where prisoners entered a talent show for their freedom.
So not sure anyone has mentioned this yet but Den Perry is played by Ted Robbins who is Emily Atack's (Charlottle from The Inbetweeners) uncle. Also the host of the ladies night from last episode was played by Kate Robbins who is her mother.
May need a "50/50 or phone a friend" on that one not sure if A/head over or B/wood trees thing ....Unless only fans of WatchMojo facts get it ? Bless them
Looking forward to max and paddy. I was a big Peter kay as a kid. When I was 12 I wrote a max and paddy episode and sent the script to Paddy McGuiness. Months later I was diagnosed with diabetes and in hospital I got a letter from Paddy telling me how much he liked it. What a nice guy
It's nice to see people who aren't British enjoying this. As someone from a little island in the UK who have this culture (not as mad as in the show) it's really easy to relate to. "Britain's got the pop factor" is a lot of fun if you like Peter Kaye.
Testament to Ted Robbins - great acting as he’s a very nice, genuine guy in real life! One question. Why is the character’s name Dennis in the first series and Denzel in the second? Continuity error or is it just Brian being an idiot and trying to take the piss!?
@@katashworth41 I’ve always found it interesting that people in show business, who have a reputation for being down to Earth friendly people behind the scenes, often make the best villains.
Max and Paddy is brilliant, probably humour that’s more translatable to an American as well, but I wish you’d do them sooner and quicker. I don't know if many people noticed that the monogram on the taxi, the hot aired lady came and went back to was a taxie that was Mr B, If you ever cover Peter kay at the Bolton Town Hall as his stand up comedy, you may not be able to cover as was with Universal Studios for the film title. Anyway youshould watch it as Mr B ( who sadly passed on since filming) was always a great name. I have mentioned previous but i from Bolton and a great peter Kay fan and haver had chats with himself and Paddy McGuiness.
I absolutely f'ing love your reactions, you and Alan (Eclectic Beard haha) have me in bits with yours How are you, hope you're doing ok? Don't worry about responding though just wishing the very best take great care!
Peter Kay relies so heavily on British cultural references that I think it would be hard for most Americans to get it. We speak English with different accents in the UK too, but there is a social history and culture that resonates with all of us from all parts of the country, regardless of background that just doesn't resonate abroad.
Personally, I think Max and Paddy was poor in comparison to Phoenix Nights - not terrible but I never felt the urge to rewatch it. Phoenix Nights I can watch over and over. The absence of Dave Spikey & Neil Fitzmaurice’s writing stood out massively and left the series lacking for me.
Even in the opening scenes I can find humour - Chinese legit use a jet burner gas stove that's likely to take your face off,. Vs "the lads out back" having to make do with this piss-poor electric Hob (...not even on) 😂😆
You should watch the "prequal" of this show, it's called "That Peter Kay thing - In the club" - there's only one episode but it was before this and it's almost like a pre broadcast pilot.
Won’t see Daniel Kitson (Spencer) in anything with Peter Kay he said Phoenix nights was one of the worst things he’s ever done. He’s blocked and edited whatever parts Daniel appear in when they show clips the best of Peter Kay or Peter Kay comedy shuffle
I think Max & Paddy's pretty good, not as good as Kay's other stuff, it's his most mainstream thing but I'm looking forward to watching it with you. If you're still in a Peter Kay mood after that you should take a look at Carshare.
Great end to a great show. When you've done Max and Paddy, you should check out an episode of 'Take Me Out' a cheesy dating shows w with Paddy McGuinness hosting.
