EP 59: A New Frame For Beans and Peas That Hopefully Won’t Collapse In The Wind! Plot no.9

- Nanou and Grinch had a great time at The BBC Gardener’s World Live in Birmingham. They won two tickets from Bethan who has a wonderful channel on TH-cam called Bethan’s Kitchen & Garden, please do check it out.
They are also back on the plot trying to catch up on all the planting they didn’t do due to Nanou being unwell. Their first task was to build a new stronger frame for the beans and peas after the one from last year collapsed in the winter’s storms. Hopefully this new one will work well for their exposed location!

Thank you so much! The plot has been so kind to us and seeing so many plants growing well was a wonderful surprise! We did keep an eye on it weekly but we are now working hard at getting things back on track. This sunshine will help as long as we water carefully which we always do. Thank you so much. We have been keeping an eye on it every week but I do feel bad that we didn’t do as much as we should have at this time of the year but I just wasn’t well enough. Grinch has been wonderful at keeping the weeds under control. We are now working hard at catching up on all the jobs and what will grow will grow and I won’t worry about what doesn’t. We are just going to enjoy it! The plot is the best place to be for healing! 😘🌸💕

Thank you so much Linda! Getting back to normal slowly! I will be planting the sunflowers out on the plot this week. A lot have been eaten away by slugs in the greenhouse but I have some left thankfully! I found the frame on Groupon and I am so pleased it fitted perfectly in the long metal raised bed! They will give me more privacy on the plot too! 😘💕🌸

It was wonderful to see that the plants still grew beautifully there even if we didn’t make it there as often as we should have. We still went there weekly and kept weeds under control but I have now cut back on my work hours so I can spend more time tending to the plot and the channel from now on. 😘💕🌸

Thank you so much! I just couldn’t believe how well all the potatoes have done everywhere I put them! Some are in last year wooden beds with old soil, some are in metal new beds with fresh soil, some are in buckets in fresh soil, it just didn’t matter to them! Our own potatoes we harvested last year did as well as the new seeds potatoes I bought this year! All the varieties did as well! Just amazing! It will be interesting to see where we harvest the most! 😘🌸💕

Great to see you both! Well done on getting going on the allotment again. I wouldn't worry about being late planting out. The weather has been so bad up until now it wouldn't have made any difference. I planted my corguette out weeks ago and it sat in the cold and rain doing nothing and going pale. It's only started to put on growth in the last week of nice weather.
Thank you so much! You made me feel a lot better! Those poor little courgettes! One is doing well, one is so-so and one might not make it! As long as one survives I will be very happy! I am working on the next video, just really uncomfortable after the two minor surgeries and results were a bit worse than expected so I need more… the treatment they first thought of is not right so back to more tests for a new strategy forward. Thank you so much! The weather has been challenging this year! So warm now in Buckinghamshire at the moment, we had to water everyday but hopefully it will get everything to grow quickly! The potatoes and artichokes were a fantastic surprise! They are so tall! The potatoes have grown well wherever I planted them, buckets or raised beds made no difference. I cannot wait to see how many potatoes we actually get! 😘💕🌸

Thank you so much Robin! Being in the garden has made me feel so much better already! I have a great consultant and I feel very positive. We have also made the decision to reduce my hours at work so I have more time and energy for the gardens and for the channel. It is amazing how health issues make us re priorities everything. Everyone have been so kind to us, we are so lucky. It will take some work to get back on track but we are looking forward to it! 😘🌸💕

Thank you so much! I was so happy to see the frame fitting perfectly inside the long bed! I was able to sow loads of beans in there! It is so sunny and warm at the moment and we are watering every day and all the new compost, I think they should grow quickly even if we are very late planting them! 😘🌸💕

Thank you so much. Some health issues got me really down and depressed and I just needed to shut down from everything for a while but i am getting out of it now and feeling far more positive. I have started treatment and I am feeling very positive. I have reduced my hours at work so I have more time to spend in the gardens and to look after the channel which I love doing. Best decision we have made. 😘🌸💕

Dear Nanou and Grinch! So good to see you both! I have been wondering where you had vanished to but could not find an address to send a note. I take it you have nit been well, so it is good to see you are feeling better, at least well enough for a garden show and some starts on the plot. Please pace yourselves as you do not want to do too much too soon! put the plants in and take a break. .what grows grows, and what doesn't well .... at least the earth is resting for next year. take care!

Wow you drove to Alabama 😂😂, oh Birmingham in the UK. So so lovely to see you both back. Yes Grinch follow the crowds unless of course they are lining up for the bathroom 😮. What perfect veg and a bit unrealistic for us normal folk 😊. My cucamelon is tiny too and my trombonchino is a baby compared. I believe Kerry grows the trombonchino and yiu can eat very small or wait til they are larger. WOW I’d go broke 😂for want of buying things.

Thank you so much Ali! I have just direct sown all the beans you have sent me in that bed today! It is very sunny and warm and we are watering every day so I am hoping they will grow well and quickly! I decided to give it a go even if we are very late! The bed is 3 meters long and it makes a fantastic fence for the plot! I am thrilled with it and the frame fits perfectly in it and I paid less than half price for it in the winter sale. Those beds cost less than buying wood to make raised beds if you shop around online for them. They are just great. Filling them is the expensive part but again, the compost we buy is very well priced, 4 bags of 70 litres for £10. I do work very hard at finding the best price so we can achieve more. I don’t mind if the colours don’t match on the plot, I like the higgledy-piggledy effect! I am the same with planting flowers, I never match colours, I just mix them all up and somehow it works out! 😘💕🌸
Ohh Nanou and Grinch it's lovely to see you back, I know we have been chatting but it's a treat to see your smiling face again Nanou. The plot is looking great and I'm sure everything will grow with the love you have for gardening. Don't worry about being a bit late with planting out, I think we have all been late this year because of the awful weather. Thank you so much! I bought the bed on Amazon from vidaXL, 320 length x 40 wide X 45 height cm in the winter sale. I bought the climbing frame on Groupon 1.8 X 1.8 meter Pea Tunnel, sold by Van Meuwen. I am thrilled with them! It makes a great hedge for the plot too! 😘💕🌸

@@plotno.9 I know what you mean. My daughter was 12 years old when she was poorly and turned into ME/CFC she 17 now not been to school since she was 12. Still care for her, but massively changed our lives and live so different now. Can’t plan too much as we never know how she will be. I must say she has improved a little over the last year. So the garden is my favourite place and daughter joins me when she can. So you do what you can and enjoy it. ❤️
