    We have had the same experience with our vizsla pup! When she is awake and outside of her crate, all attention has to be on her to make sure she's not getting into things. We use the crate a lot to help us with that. She goes in the crate any time we need to be able to concentrate on something else. As long as she gets adequate exercise, she has no problem being in the crate. She just falls asleep! Your pup is growing up so fast! You all are doing great and he is such a happy guy!

      It’s hard work isn’t it! The problem is unless he is exhausted it’s really hard to put him in the crate as he screams the house down! Something we need to work on! Thank you for your nice comments. 😊🐾

      Hoping for a similar experience to this! Thanks.

      @@teamgritocr4291 Hi, yes we tried crating him for naps in the day from the beginning. We would put him in there when he was really tired, we didn’t do it for a particular time just once he woke up we would get him out. He didn’t like it at the start but now it’s really the only place he will sleep really well as if he naps on the sofa the slightest thing wakes him up. 😊🐾

    I used a playpen ( set up in a corner of a quiet room) to help him calm down when I have to go to work (even WFH), I do need me time! Nothing can be done if he is awake and always wants you to play with him. So have to set up a calm zone for him to stay alone for a while. My vizsla is currently ~15wk, he can stay in the playpen for 2 hours if we keep quitely working upstairs.

    Awwww he is looking so handsome! Harley is exactly the same, walking sometimes we get it spot on other times nope, just nope but we ride the wave.
    We find running around in the house with him a little bit while having playtime makes him even more tired so he behaves that little bit more when it comes to nap time just on his bed ( without the crate). He also have a designated playpen area which is his downstairs space when we can’t keep an eye on him - we did have to cable tie it to our sturdy breakfast bar as the monkey learnt very quick if he jumps up on it it moves 🙈
    He has destroyed all of his soft toys including the kong teddy, so will have to top up on more indestructible toys that are soft as he prefers soft to anything else - must be a viz thing ☺️

    • @LordCannonTheVizsla
      @LordCannonTheVizsla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! He is hard work, if you start running around with him inside it just winds him up even more and he turns into Jaws! Outside is much easier though, just hard when it’s pouring with rain! We had a play pen but he’s too big for it now, although it saved us at the start. I should have got a degree in animal behaviour before we got him! 🤣🤣🐾

      @@LordCannonTheVizsla it’s such hard work and at times I just need to walk away as it just gets a little too much 😫 - can 100% relate with everything! So much so that I’ve decided to invest a little and we’re looking for a puppy trainer near us to help give me some pointers - hopefully it will help.
      Sleeping is no issue at all - he knows what bed time is ( with the odd night that he wakes up around 2am but he goes straight back to sleep) but it’s during the day when I need to focus on work, I feel like I’m letting him down when I can’t do much with him till the evening.
      He too gets really wound up inside but as soon as he gets too wound up we stop then resume once he seems chilled enough. Really think we deserve some sort of puppy survivor badge 🤪

      The Vizsla is originally a bird hunting dog, full of energy to run down, which he does an entire day long while helping to the hunter. He is always very eager to fulfill your wishes, so always give him some tasks while walking/runing outside (throw a little ball or stick to bring him back etc). Let him work by runing, but be a part of his game. This is what the Vizsla always wants, to keep close to his loved ones. Even inside, he wish to play with you always. If not, he will get freak. If he does something wrong (bites, jumps, etc.), just correct and repeat him by saying a hard NO. He is smart and learn the boundaries quickly. I know it is very tough, he requires at least as much time and energy of the owner as a small child. But it worth, you will get his lifelong faithfullness and love.

    These videos are all so familiar. Our vizsla is now 7 months and the behaviours were exactly the same as Cannons. However everytime we thought he was improving (walk to heel), he would revert back to pulling and forget he was ever taught. Consistency and perservience is key with this breed. Its quite tedious but all the hard work will pay off. Our boy now sees a pet gun dog trainer who is teaching him discipline (as our boy was just stubborn and didnt listen to us at all) and he is learning he is bottom of the pack, slowly. I have heard they dont calm down into the wonderful family dog we all hope for until around 4 years old. There is a few vizslas where we live and this seems very evident - a 2 year old is still crazy and in regular training with a gun dog trainer. It does get a bit easier though, but they are a tough breed. We are all in it together and with everything you guys have documented we have seen and sometimes worse with ours! I would strongly recommend a trainer who works with Vizslas if you dont seen an improvement by 6 months!! Good luck, loving the videos and keep going!

    Our Lab Boxer etc mix looked like a Rhodesian without a ridge. She was just as energetic until about 2yo. She would chase tennis balls I would throw for hours. Another game we learned is hide and seek. We would have her sit in the kitchen, then go to one of the bedrooms and tell her to come. We rewarded her with a treat. Early training pups learning is contextual. A sit in the kitchen is not the same as a sit in the bed room or back yard. They need to be taught to sit in every room of the house and back yard. Soon they understand sit means any time any where you say to sit. Perhaps if he does not chase tennis balls. you could put a Kong toy on a rope hung from a tether ball pole he could bat around and chase. Our girl was so wild (rescue dog) I had to place her on her back and lye on top of her till she stopped squirming to show her I was the Alpha, NOT her. That helped a lot. A Vizsla breeder said place the puppy on his back in a submission pose hold him/her down till they stop squirming then they will know YOU are the Alpha dog, and what you say goes, Otherwise they will be the Alpha and a holy terror and nearly impossible to train.

    our pup is the same with other dogs children etc so have started using the wait command from feeding times. So when I see people approaching i make her wait on the lead or off the lead - however on the beach imposible - heel walking is hard going as you say some days good others not.

      @ritchiechristopher5603 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LordCannonTheVizsla with the wait command you can stretch it out when its food time. we prepare Nala's food in the kitchen in front of her sitting and waiting and sometimes take our time and it seems to work as if she starts jumping we just stop !! so she learns to sit tight and food will come. also use it for traffic "wait" whilst cars go by - not necesarly "sit" just wait e.g. stopped before crossing road or going over a style gate door etc. Good luck - its years sinse I trained a pup never a vizsla though so its all new to me !

    I am enjoying your videos, keep up the great work. I laughed when i saw your video where you were wondering if you would ever get your lives back. Don't foget Vizsla's are hunting dogs. Mine NEEDS 60 minutes a day running off the leash; this prevents destructive behavior. Mine is amazing dog, i could go on for hours about him. Make sure you work on socialization both with other dogs and other people; it's very important. Make sure he has a job, even if it's not something you read about in book. The sleep will come once he is getting the exercise and attention he needs. My 3 year old sleeps at least 12 hours a day. Enjoy the ride, it looks like you got a good dog

    Hi, we had a Weimeraner who sadly passed after his fourth op for removing a blockage in his stomach - 2 × corn on the cob(farmers leave them for pheasants) 1 × knuckle of a huge bone and 1 × ripped up tennis ball. A few questions. Do you know if they are same or worse better than Weim as I am looking for comparison, I think maybe very similar from your vids. 2. Does he become disruptive when left alone, I understand the attention as Teddy would follow us everywhere but was not disruptive. We used the crate a lot, but actually he slept a fair bit in the day. 3. You mention people and dogs and he goes mad, what happens and what have you learned? Thanks for the video!

    Love watching your videos guys! It seems that there's a huge improvement in his behaviour! How do you teach him to heel? By luring with snacks around the house?
    My GSP - Korra is 14 weeks old now and she's starting to show some character (oh she'll be a stubborn one, that is something I'm pretty sure of). At home she has two modes: sleeping or tornado, more often than not she goes into tornado mode when I have to work and then I have to get really creative to get her occupied (just ordered a Kong, hopefully it will be a lifesaver) :/ We go into the woods and fields almost every day now and it's incredible and a bit scary at the same time because she changes completely when she's there - she instantly starts to work with her nose, circling and tracking, luckily she's not a runner (at least not yet). It's just obvious that she has a really strong hunting drive, something I will have to learn how to tame or use in a creative way.

    • @LordCannonTheVizsla
      @LordCannonTheVizsla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha that’s just like Lord Cannon, tornado mode always switched on!
      We started heel inside with luring snacks just behind my knee, when he followed I rewarded. Once he got it we then practiced in the garden and added the word heel. Kong’s are amazing, we get at least ten mins peace! Also having a lick mat is also great. We put dog peanut butter on it and put it in the freezer. 😊🐾
