    I am also a bus driver myself. I really loved this video, just seeing what it's like somewhere else on the road is awesome. Unfortunately, our company doesn't allow me to make videos behind the wheel for safety reasons, it would cause too much distraction. I don't agree with this, you would do much better if you knew it was being filmed. But hey, rules are rules.
    Many greetings from Belgium , colleague 😜

      The longer distance routes require ID, as well as some routes to nearby apartments, but many of the local routes that just go from one side of campus to the other are free for everyone. For the routes that do require ID, if you have an ID for any other university, you can present that and it will be honored. Alternatively, if you board a route that requires ID while on campus, there's a good shot that the driver won't check for ID. They mainly check for ID when they're further away from campus. I've also had several instances where I took too long to pull out my ID (I actually did have it, it was just buried deep in my bag) and was just waived on.

    • @Link8451
      @Link8451 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      alot of transit buses have really basic dashboards because it saves money and there's not really a need for a modern one because they want to keep them running for as long as possible before they get retired.

    • @Pa_school_bus_enthusiast

      You can choose a higher quality dashboard with this bus model they have digital screens but most go with the lower priced option

    • @AviTheWolf
      @AviTheWolf ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The dashboard is one of many customization options offered by Gillig. They offer a full digital display, or an assortment of physical guages, or you could go for a hybrid between the two, it is up to the agency to order the higher quality and pricier parts for the bus. The manufacturer just builds the bus according to the specs the agency orders.

    • @tclark1995
      @tclark1995 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, the analog gauges over here are the sweet spot because they don’t fail as much as the digital gauges would, we have in some areas a harsh winter, maybe not as bad as Siberia, but it’s bad for the country, and the analog gauges don’t have the ghosting issues the digital gauges would have, out here they do at least, if you listen closely you can hear how cheap we build them 😂 brand new they sound like they’re falling apart sometimes with how the handrails rattle 😂

    What do you make of those Swiftly schedule tablets? The transit agency in my city is rolling them out and it’s fun to watch them as a passenger and see how well the driver is adhering to schedule.
    To that point, it seems like the schedule you were driving could be tightened a bit - near the end of the video you were running 13 minutes early! Not sure if the light passenger load is part of that, but 13 minutes early seems a bit excessive considering you left all your timepoints on time.

    • @eugew23
      @eugew23  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The Swiftly ain't bad. Definitely makes life easier as an operator when you can simply follow prompts and refer to a rolling map if you need to.
      I don't work at this agency on a regular basis anymore, but an issue I see with this route as a scheduler at a different agency is that there aren't enough time points to help with schedule adherence. There is also a huge variance in run times from peak to off-peak hours, and it is not reflected enough in this schedule. This route also gets much less ridership than it did pre-pandemic. Great observations!

      That's because its not. That's the charm of American transportation - most of the population has their own vehicle(s) so they never have a need for the bus. The people who do ride it understand that the ride is unpleasant and complete psychos like me find it alluring and want more and more of it. European buses are very comfortable and furnished, but I enjoy the rickety rattling of a modern Gillig. It's a workman's transportation.
