Many of you who weren't around when Aretha hit the scene in 1967 will be watching this movie like a hawk. If you're a fan from that era you'll know right away if Jhud is channeling Aretha or just singing her songs. Jamie Foxx and Boseman channeled Ray Charles and James Brown respectively. Angela Bassett used Tina's voice. Beyonce portrayed a character that was supposed to be Etta James. From what I've seen of trailers I'm not feeling it. The family said they haven't been consulted. Even one of her ex husband who is a notable actor Glynn Turman should have been consulted. The arrival of Aretha in the 60s was a very special time especially for Black people. She was authentically black and unique. The world had not witnessed such a vocal siren with such purity and precision before. She was a phenomenon and if this film doesn't get it right the longtime fans will let you know. So if you're feelings are easily hurt then I recommend you just don't read the comments.
