Anyway, indeed the company was spending a lot of money on stuttering John. Putting him on MTV and playing his video, plus doing gigs opening for some rock bands.
It all peeked when MTV and Atlantic Records threw him a huge release party and had movie stars and rock stars coming to the party.
John was at this point an insufferable prick, thinking he was a huge star... even though the record hadn't come out yet..
Anyway, it all came crashing down in a hilarious way when they sent John to a record store to do a signing on the day the album came out. And only less than 20 people showed up to the signing.
Grillo and Gange, who were with him, rushed the next morning to tell Howard how bad it went.
So, anyway, obviously, the record was a huge flop. Sold less than 1,000 units on its first week, and Atlantic Records immediately shut down John's second album and gave him all the cds that didn't sell. Which John had to rent a storage unit just to put them there and he created a 1-800 number so he could sell his crappy cd there plus he would also try to sell them when he was doing gigs...
But doesn’t John have 2 Albums?
@psfanboy79 one of them was independently produced and also went nowhere.
Like Robin wasn't on Jeopardy because of the Stern Show.
Stern made sure Robin got tons of money so she did less because of that
the glory days.
Howard knows music. Anyone heard the Stutter's shit?
I saw some 2023 clips of John playing an acoustic guitar, which taught me one thing: There's no way John played a note on his albums.
So many people on the show mistook being used by the show for their being talented
In his defense Howard and Robyn both had people write plugs for their books on the jackets. People write for record liners all the time, nothing wrong in asking. Of course people associate him with the show. No surprise there.
Ronnie has the nerve to call John a user. LOL Go mooch off of Scores, Ronnie.
29:50 Omg! John did when he ran off to do Leno's show!
All the “bird” allegories apply to StutJo - never realised a bird in hand is worth two in the bush or never to kill the golden goose.
Damn..@ 29:50..
After all John did for him!😂😂😂😂
John looks like a caveman in this pic
He tried everything to surpass popularity on the show to a comic, actor, and musician. It wasn't cuz of talent it's cuz he was on the show with easy access to plugs. As soon as anyone else paid him, he left. Now he's nowhere JD as more fame than him now lol
john...the almost celebrity that never was.
Whenever Howard says " I'm happy for him" he is def lying
Howard’s show stinks today but anyone that says he isn’t brilliant and talented is nuts. First he took a bunch of zeros like SJ and made them entertaining. Second he knew SJ would sell him out eventually.
That band sucked. He only got a deal because of Stern Show. Howard was being nice enough promoting that garbage on his show knowing the music was awful. Of course it was never enough for John.
"Bit of a screw up" is putting it mildly.
I love how Howard says his agent told him “absolutely not, you’re not doing it” which is a total lie. Howard has set up the good guy/bad guy thing with Tom Chiusano and I’m sure he had it with Don Buckwald also. It’s all BS.
I wouldn’t have done anything for it either, but it was funny.
29:50
Lmaooo. This was foreshadowing
That pizzed off Howard to the core!
He didn't sleep for weeks
John is AWFUL in every way
560 - 07/06/2023
So what happened with the whole record deal? How did it play out? Did rick rubin produce it like John was saying they were talking about. Lamo
The album went Tin and sold dozens of copies
30:07 Howard asks SJ if he'd leave him for more money, very telling. Even then, Howard knew he was a user.
SJ picked the right 6 numbers of a lottery ticket.
Oh wow - @29:50 ....a very telling Question and Answer....Howard had spider sense of what was going on....
Air date?
@42:45 doesn’t want to be the bossman, but sure wants to get paid like one.
Dabbling John made a cheese metal album at the height of grunge/alternative. It failed, like his marriage, his kids, and his life has.
Seek medical attention if you thought that was any kind of metal lol
11:48 oh yeah total classic, I think it’s still on the charts 30 years later.
29:50 holy shit. 😂 how was that not played after John took the job with Jay hahaha
It broke into the top hundred of the Adult Contemporary Charts in Wichita
@@hoggers7572 the whaaaat?!😁😆
