Coool video, I was looking for a PS1 in marketplace last week and after watching this video I'm more convinced I have to get one as soon as possible bc I want to bring that old times back :)
Back in the day, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater had such an impact that almost every game that came after had something from it. The street artstyle, the punk-rock soundtrack, sports (or just straight up skate) minigames, especially when Grand Theft Auto 3 came out. Their influences were that obvious, and I loved it.
I haven't played Tony Hawk 3 on PS1, so I can't judge it as the potential best skateboarding game on the system, but the best one I've played is Thrasher: Skate & Destroy. It was released the same year as Tony Hawk 1, and has aged much better. Proper analog control as opposed to lazily slapping digital control on the stick, and a higher learning curve thanks to it being a simulator. One can't ignore the more consistent framerate as well. Be warned, it's brutally difficult, perhaps the most frustrated I felt playing a video game, but in a way that was compelling as opposed to tedious like Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. I also recommend Grind Session, done by the same team who also did Tony Hawk 3 on PS1. Hidden gem. :)
I wonder if hoverboards get more advanced in the future we’ll have some new music and new bands to go with it along with a whole new fashion style 😊and a series of video games
Good video. Enjoyed it a lot actually. I don't really watch reviews much but you kept it well edited, concise, and seemed to put a lot more organization than most retro review channels. Good job man. Subbed.
Yo this is a banger of a THPS video man! I did do skate boarding during the 00s era, the only games I owned was THPS2,3,4, while my mates hate the others I was missing especially THUG series. I suck at vert skateboarding but I was amazing at street skateboarding, for vert I just couldn't pump my legs well consistently when going up n down the pipe also I did have an accident where I was knocked out when I flew off it was pretty embaressing so I stuck to street style where you just move forward, ollie, kickflip etc, jump off ramps or jump off high ground, low bar grinding, I've stopped skating over a decade ago in my mid 20s after I had a near fatal bike accident ik it's different from skateboarding but as much as I loved being a crazy british bastard there was the issue of mortality, plus my arm n leg was fucking busted at the time n thankfully got a friend who drove me over to the hospital cus I was fucking bleeding alot. Had to leave my job for a few months before I could go back for a lil while. You don't have to be a proper skater no matter if you're casual or professional, just enjoy the culture no matter where you are in the world.
I remember the last tony hawk game I played was project 8. I rented it from blockbuster and boy was I disappointed. It felt like such a leap from there previous titles and I just couldn’t accept or adapt to the new change in direction. It honestly felt like the end of an era for me and I genuinely lost interest in the series as a whole. But those early titles will always have some of my favorite memories of all time❤
I didn't have a new console when THPS3 came out for a little while so I got the PS1 version first. It was pretty cool and I like the slight differences in levels like Canada. THPS4 on PS1 I didn't play until around 2020 so like almost 20 years after I played it on next gen. It was rough and I didn't really like it. I think that THPS4 was mainly just too ambitious to really work on the PS1.
1 much like Mortal Kombat 1, are essentially proof of concept games. They were made quickly, on small budgets and not expected to do much in sales. As history would have it, the games EXPLODED and thus created the more true first games that are near flawless, THPS2 and MK2.
THPS1 was a BIG thing. THPS2 was a BIGGER thing that built on that. THPS3 is still the best version of any Tony Hawk Pro Series. Not because of the levels, but the blend of gameplay/ graphics and physics. Everything after THPS3 is actually shit.
Yo slaya, quality retrospect here I remember playing these long ago, they was hittin back then but the series fell off (I can attest to Proving Ground being mid, legit the only thing i remember bout that game was ben diskin being in it and you could push people or some shit?) Another good skateboarding game thats old was Skate, 2 and 3 being the best, 3 was better gameplay wise but 2 had a better atmosphere, setting, and soundtrack way i see it (suicidal tendencies, judas priest, motorhead, etc) those games were live
It is kinda a shame thps4 ps1 exists cause it tarnishes what would have been a decent trilogy on ps1, sure thps1 hasn't aged the best in its controls but its still fun to a extent none the less, and thps2 and 3 are still a blast on ps1 regardless, even though I do enjoy the ps2 titles much more, with thps3 being my favorite in the series. Also another good alternative to playing 1 and 2's content aside from 1+2 cause it has its issues too, would be 2x, its xbox exclusive which is the only downside and some of its progression is a bit wack too, but its all the content from 1 and 2, with better graphics, but with the classic structure and playstyle of thps2, and with some extra levels. Though admitably tampa skatepark is the only actually good new level in 2x, the others are pretty meh unfortunarly.
Seweers, Down hill, Little Big World, Kona, Alcatraz and College are all great on PS1! TBH I think the PS1 levels are better than the PS2 ones, they are smaller fun to play, the PS2 counterparts are too big and there's some bad ones like zoo for example. I think I'm the exception here 'cause I really don't like THPS3 with the exception of a few levels like Airport, I don't like the Foundry nor Canada which are fan favorites! I still think the level selection of two excels 3! And yeah, THPS2X is really amazing! It's the only one on the series that allows 4 players splitscreen! That alone puts it on the top!
@@andremalerba5281 I tried playing Tony Hawk 2 on PS1 the other day, and yikes has it seen better days. The heavy steering, poor framerate and lack of a balance metre besides manuals made for a very frustrating experience. How are you supposed to get good when there's no proper feedback on what you're doing half of the time? Fundamentally, of the Tony Hawk games I've played at least, the third instalment on the PS2 is the most fun to go back to. It's more immersive, the play control is properly fine-tuned, all the feedback information to play consistently is all there, and it runs at 50 frames a second with no dipping signs to speak of. But even on the PS1, Thrasher is the most fun to replay.
Machine Gun Kelly is easily the best pop punk act of the 2020s. With Travis Barker producing and on drums, every song feels like a throwback but for modern times, you should really give him a try if you haven´t, because he actually revived mi interest in modern rock music and I thinks it fits perfectly in the 1+2 soundtrack
I might be retarded but i prefer PSX version of thps4 - i don't like additions from PS2 top much, and really liked a bit simplified layout. It's even my favourite game in the series becase it had free roam without time limit, aaaand because i suck. Also nostalgia not gonna lie xd
I only like THPS4 PSE for its quirky gameplay additions like the dismounts, one-wheel manuals and ollie boosts, as well as using special grinds and lips mid-extension. Not only that, I was able to mod the game only to replace its music, since this and Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX have the highest number of music tracks present of the PS one Activision O2 sports games.

So glad 1 + 2 got a decent remake, considering all the buggy flops coming out of late.
Awesome vid!
1+2 really shocked me. I thought the Tony Hawk series would be dead forever after THPS 5.
Decent ?? It’s the best way to play the original 1 & 2.

Hey great video never really got into the tony hawk games but I can see the appeal

Hi slayercoon :D just thought I’d ask have you ever played Bully before?
I-is it ok if I say I like the N64 versions more?
