Jack Cassidy really was astounding. The look on his face while Jonathan is beating up his bodyguard- the camera cuts back to him and his face is half terror and half (sexual?) excitement. It's beautiful. It's one of those astounding performances that lifts the whole project- he should have been nominated for an award. I hoped you'd include a shot of that.
All of the modern woke negative reflections against this fifty year old film add to the terrific entertainment it delivers. One of my favourite Eastwood jobs.
Watched for first time in long period. Really enjoyed. Ok so all the miseries who have imposed their morality on what is now exceptable to look at, read or watch. TES is very much of its time and place and is full of "isms" or RED FLAGS as our morality police have it. But it should be seen as a piece of movie history....in Eastwoods long and varied career. Great review as ever T
@@tonybush555 I have that feeling about what will now or soon be called Eastwood "lesser works" that they maybe but they very enjoyable and fun. Keep safe thanks for response
Great review, you really gave this movie the treatment it deserves, I think. It's stupid, but it's definitely entertaining and there is something about it that lingers. Now I have to find it and watch it again.
This movie gets a hilarious parody in season 6 episode 3 of Archer "The Archer Sanction", where Archer's clue to the identity of the real target is "a WWII Axis power"... and his fellow climbers are an Italian, German, and Japanese mountaineers.
Climbing school scenes were excellent. Turns out George Kennedy's character didn't think Eastwood would have wanted cold beer at the top of the mountain 😊.
I can't say I enjoyed this film. It was screened as part of a double-feature with "The Heroes of Telemarketing", which kicked-off proceedings. Heroes was pure boredom and a steaming pile of porcine diarrhoea. This left a miserable feeling that carried-on into Eiger. Although the cinema started off with a decent number of punters, twenty minutes into Eiger and the place was almost empty. Cheers Tony, as least we can rely on your shining wit to help us cope with dross like The Eiger Sanction.
Yes, it's a pretty movie, but it's also a pretty boring movie. The story is mediocre and moves at a glacial pace. It's only worth it if you like climbing or are impressed exclusively by visuals. If, on the other hand, the story is important, then give this one a miss as it's got very little in that department.

Jack Cassidy was something else, for sure. Thanks for commenting. T.

Despite knowing it's not the greatest, or Eastwood's best work, I really do enjoy it. And nothing will change that. Thankfully. Cheers, Graeme. T.

I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks Chris. Appreciated.
Love the song at the end of the video.
Think it's the first time anyone's ever said that, Tom. But thanks. Appreciated. T.
Favorite line:
Miles: "Jonathan, I didn't actually kill him, you know".
Jonathan: "I probably won't ACTUALLY kill you"
It's a great line, fazole. Killer.

The Totem Pole climb is sheer cinema. Thank you for commenting, Guillermo. Appreciated. T.
Love the Eiger Sanction
You and be both, rj. Thank you for commenting. Appreciated.
People forget the book was written as a parody of Bond.
for real?
Read that it was a stab at James Bond as well. I'm also inclined to agree with our skilled reviewer that the writer of the Eiger sanction was a snob
Thanks! Enjoyed!
Thanks. Appreciated.
