Some points to make on the perma-swap controversy (so I'm not repeating myself ad nauseam in comment responses): 1) When Sumidori first swaps into Shikaku, he establishes who he is immediately by addressing Halkenburg as "Prince" and he's recognized at once. When "Sumidori" wakes up later, he gives the wrong address, calling the prince by name instead. And based on Halkenburg's expression, this is a dead giveaway: he's already outed himself as not the real Sumidori. 2) Halkenburg is acting exactly like he believes it's a permanent swap and he's planning accordingly. He warns Unma what's going on and that he won't be at the banquet (unnecessary if he's only going to be in Balsa's body long enough for a kamikaze attack on Ben). More immediately, he needs the "Halkenburg" body to die as proof to gain Benjamin's trust. That whole conversation is pointless if he doesn't plan to let the Halk body die - and if he is, he clearly doesn't think the swap is temporary (or he'd end up as a soul with no body to return to). 3) The scene of Halkenburg asking his followers to lay down their lives in order to test his theories and maximize the chance to win the War makes it pretty clear that Halkenburg has been hardened into a leader who sacrifices his men. This dramatic change is undermined if it turns out "Everything worked out actually, Sumidori didn't have to sacrifice himself, he went straight back to his real body! Thank goodness!" It's brutal that Sumidori had to die the way he did but that's precisely the turn Halkenburg has just taken. 4) Letting the original "Halkenburg" body die and turning his followers into a diffuse movement with no single king-like ruler is perfectly in line with Halkenburg's philosophy (and David Grimal's, the namesake for his bow). It's exactly what he'd do! And again, that means a perma-swap. It's a dramatic and terrifying thing to do, but Halkenburg is fearless and committed and believes in his own democratic ideals, so that's just what we'd expect from him.
😭i went back and checked the volume and yeah you're right the reaction is very different i hadn't noticed it before. when taking shikaku's body sumidori says your highness versus sumidori's body reawakening and saying 9th prince halkenberg. a full body swap would definitely make the ability less broken but now i'm wondering what they're doing with those swapped bodies.
Point 1 and 3 I definitely agree with. Point 3 and 4 I'm more iffy about. I think it's concievable that he asked his mother to use her influence and power to help fake his death. Furthermore, I feel like it was implied Halkenburg still intends to win the war, and I don't see how he's supposed to do that if he's forever stuck in Balsamilco's body. Also, what do you make of the 'mass faintings'? Being able to predict his supporters losing consciousness and then returning to normal seems weird if it doesn't have anything to do with his ability or the swap is permanent. Even assuming an "ideal", non-permanent swap, this bit has me confused. Did everyone lose consciousness at the same time? Did it happen before or after Halkenburg put his consciousness inside Might? What does this imply?
@@Raichuchuu Losing consciousness seems to be an effect of receiving the mark, as it happened to all his guards in Room 1009. Unclear if there's any connection to how the bow works (other than the mark being a requirement for people to "charge" the bow with him). And the swaps being permanent doesn't mean Halk has to spend the rest of the War in Balsamilco's body! Just to present one scenario, he could let the original Halk body die, then swap bodies with one of his guards, and guard-in-Balsamilco could carry out some kind of kamikaze mission while Halk-in-guard survives. His guards understand how his power works - I don't think he's going to lose their loyalty because he's not in his original body anymore.

I am a bit sceptical about him being able to use his ability in Balsamilco's body, though, because of the blood sample required to initiate the seed urn ceremony and gain the GSB. Does the guardian spirit beast move over to Balsamilco's body? if so, how would Halkenburg hope to reliably hide it from Benjamin's people, assuming he doesn't know about zetsu? Or does it hide on its own when convenient? If it stays with Halks original body, can he even use it when he's inside balsamilco? And would it move over to his consciousness when his body is destroyed? Essentially, does the seed urn identify him by his body or his consciousness? I'm leaning towards the former, because of the aforementioned blood requirement, although all my questions would be more easily answered by the latter. Honestly, I am a bit torn, because while I want his resolve to sacrifice his allies to not be undermined, I also want him to complete his character arc with his own character design and facial expressions. So I am somewhat biased towards the non-permanent body swap.
I really feel bad for Zhang Lei, he's a high ranking prince yet his entire faction are ignorant when it comes to nen , I'm really hoping his nen beast's ability could give him any chance.

Hulkenberg using Trigonometry to get a shot on Balsa is insane. What's more so is the sheer willingness that he is willing to go even allowing his own body to die (if its true that he can't switch back anyway). His ability within the context of the Succession War, is so far perhaps the most versatile and best suited to this sort of conflict. It's actually pretty scary. My question is how much further he is willing to go to win, like if you are willing to sacrifice your own body then I'm assuming nothing is off the table here.
Yeah, I think the newly "awakened" Halkenburg is only going to get scarier. There's potential for him to be an ends-justify-the-means fanatic from here on out who'll keep stacking sacrifice on sacrifice for the sake of his ideals.
@@Nucleotron I think that's a wiki claim based on a weird translation. Balsamilco's line as I read it is about him being willing to sacrifice a life for each shot (not being willing to sacrifice *his* life if he misses).
I feel like Halk's current planned path to victory is to become Benjamin, take control of both factions, and quickly win the war with as little casualties as possible. And that, I think, would be a pretty good explanation as to why he sacrificed his body, too.

2:20 something to add in here in case nobody else has brought it up: while it seems like shikaku is inside sumidori's body here, when vict gets attacked by the arrow benjamin says "shikaku is dead, but vict is still alive" with togashi purposefully not letting us know when shikaku died exactly, but also assuring us that the body swap doesn't trigger Benjamin Baton so, if shikaku was in sumidori's body, they killed him after an interrogation, but it's also possible that the third possibility Halkenburg mentioned was true, shikaku and sumidori inhabit the same body, meaning shikaku died with his body and sumidori returned to his own. if this is true, it makes halkenburg more confident in his ability, knowing his comrades can't die as long as they protect the original body, but it also means balsamilco is in a "Get Out" situation; maybe it's a situation too complicated to be true or exploited by the story, but it's more interesting than simple body swap, because it means that returning halkenburg to his body (somehow) saves balsamilco on the spot, maybe there's even the condition that killing the original body kills that person, and it'd also explain why sumidori's body was unconscious until shikaku died, maybe it was maintained alive with nen but it had no soul
if halk and balsa are cohabiting the same body it might be possible that benjamin's gsb can exorcise halk out of balsa's body bringing balsa back to benjamin's side and if that happens halk would be fucked since they'd fully understand how the ability works so that could also be a possibility of what happens next

Yeah, I really feel now that I should've talked about this more in the video, but I'm just utterly persuaded by the panel of "Sumidori" waking up that it was Shikaku in there. And now Halk is certainly acting like he won't be swapping back into his body (plans to kill it to provide "proof" to Benjamin, warns Unma about the whole situation so she won't panic, etc) which I take to be extra confirmation.

If hawlkenburgs ability is as restrictive as you think it is, what would his play with sergeant might be? To transfer himself into Benjamin's body and declare marshall law? Or will he kill is body and attempt to move his soul back into it after he kills Benjamin? All these options seem riskier than making an army of nen users, using the bow in tandem, to win the contest by force.
I wanted to talk about the plans for Balsamilco's body but the video was already way too long! Basically I don't know how he's going to get a group of followers near "Balsamilco" during a meeting with Prince Benjamin (in order to fire an arrow at him) and I don't know how he can make any other sort of assassination attempt when Ben would have to be an idiot not to be on high alert near him. So with a quick Ben swap/kill off the table (as far as I can see), I think he must be playing a slightly longer game.

To be fair I did assume the halkenberg crew telling the truth partially because they assume the justice bureau are neutral but I a more in-depth reason could be the justice bureau seem to oppose Benjamin’s over stepping power. But also they want to keep in good faith with them as Benjamin says he needs to do this for years after this war and halkenberg likely will need them more to try and bring more due process with his democracy
It's a good point that they have Benjamin as a common enemy. But do they have any idea Kaiser's being manipulated, or who by? If they do, that's extremely suspicious; if they don't, it's a catastrophic blunder to reveal so much to him.

Honestly seems like the 3rd, 5th, 10th and 11th princes have nen beasts that require intellect and encourage partnership to maximize. Great for Kurapika. Compare their beasts to the other's which are more straight forward in their purpose. It's a bit telling.
Some attention was brought up to the "first come, first served" Manipulator rule this chapter and I think that's because Halkenburg will try to swap one of his guards with Kaiser, only to discover he's already being manipulated.

Been thinking about how the reasoning behind Halk favoritism from Unma may be because Benjamin is a monster (and a part in Nasubi's agenda?), Tserri is another monster (a part in Beyond's agenda?) and she thought that she needed a son she could manipulate and/or protect from the plans of Nasubi and Beyond.
Vict didnt need to signal the laptop guy can just look by himself. Vict distract Balsamilco to keep an eyes on him while Halhenburg attacking have a better chance.
On looking again, yeah, Vict is distracting him with the code about "Halkenburg's secret" while laptop guy does the real signaling. A flub on my part! (Fortunately it adds up to more or less the same result.)
my theory about wario is that he was with halkenberg at university and he supports him from far away, he recently got in contact with him at the black whale and maybe even knows the first queen

Pleasure to watch as always, what's your thoughts on Balsimilco (apparently possessed by Halk at this point) requesting to postpone the trial by quoting equipment issues? I don't get why and it feels quite important. Really liking the point about taking out Nasubi to forcefully end the Succession War, Halkenburg really need a nen-expert to discuss the nen technicalities and he too might come to the same answer.
Re: "equipment issues," it seems to me like Halkenburg knows about the shoe-delivered bio-weapon (presumably he did a very careful inventory of everything on Balsa's person sometime before the phone call) and intended to drop a reference to that. His excuse is that the shoe had a mechanical failure, and the "proof" that he's sorted it out will be the Halkenburg body dying by the correct symptoms.
Regarding Zhang, I get what you're saying but I have to wonder if the Beast won't still have some kind of power that will aid with the immediate succession war. Otherwise, he's arguably in the weakest position of any prince in spite of his seniority or intellect. Neither he, nor any of his guards know nen and most of them don't seem to have a lot of promise for it, judging by their input this chapter. He's theoretically got the largest mafia family on the boat at his disposal, but so far hasn't found a way to use them. Tubeppa and even Luzurus seem to have better resources and more useful nen beasts. Even the younger princes who might not have much apptitude or experience have powerful protectors like Melody, Bisky and Kurapika. So it's nice that we might finally be getting somewhere with the coins.
Sure, but we've been told his intuitions already: that the GSB ability isn't good for the War. That turning out to be basically true shouldn't be that great a surprise. (And in terms of being in the weakest position, hey, he's got an alliance with Kurapika! That ain't nothing.)
I’m super curious to see if Balsamilco’s nen will be transferred to Benjamin when they kill Halkenburg’s body. It would nearly instantly give them away and definitely tips the scale tremendously on Benjiman getting Martial Law privileges.
The 3rd theory about how to end the Succession War makes sooo much sense, if you also take in account that there are 14 coffins in the "nen-inscribed" chambers, at this point it's made pretty clear that the last surviving prince has to kill Nasubi too (or Nasubi has to suicide) so that: 1: His corpse can be put in 1 of the coffins giving power to the next King 2: The hunting grounds for the Succession War on the Black Whale 1 are actually eliminated.
Unma suddenly became so interesting, her relationships with Duazul, Tserri, Benjamin and Halkenberg elevates her character potential. Maybe she is the reason for Tserri views on women or maybe a part of the reason
I wonder! Misogyny is clearly a big element in Tserri's whole American Psycho murder habit, so it'd be interesting if Togashi hints at what went wrong in his brain to get him there. But he could also be a misogynist for the same reason he's a psycho killer in general: he's just plain evil-natured. I think it's alright for some villains, like Hisoka, to just never get an "explanation" for how crazy they are. Either way, I trust Togashi's call.
@ExtraOtter quite possible, I feel Togashi will play with the nurture and nature aspect to explain why Tserri is as he is, he has done some of that with snippets of Tserri psyche and what we get from his close confidants thoughts of him. Personally I believe a person is formed by both nature and experiences and would love to see some exploration of those concepts via his character. I also feel we see some of that through Halkenburg (tying back to his and Nasubi’s conversation) BTW you are absolutely right he totally gives off American psycho vibes 😂
My guess for Kurapika's deduction would be that since the death barrier moves with the ship, it is locked to a person or object aboard the ship(probably the seed urn imo) that is fueling it, meaning it can be destroyed or exorcised, giving them a concrete objective that can save the rest of the younger princes, and would be in the interest of most of the princes to work towards. Why that is implied to be a better situation than there not, or at least possibly not, being a death barrier when it is bound to be more tightly guarded than anything except maybe the king, I have no idea.

Nice vid! Do you think it’s on the table that Zhang Lei dies without us seeing what his coins actually do? We seem to have had quite a few cutaways for the mystery (in which he metaly complains how people aren’t making any progress with it) and I’d feel a bit cheated if they didn’t do anything until after the war (unless he survives it I suppose).
If I had to guess, we'll find out what they do (maybe even next chapter) but it won't be particularly high-impact for the War, just as Zhang Lei feared. I agree it's gotten enough attention that it'd be weird to drop it completely with a quick Zhang Lei death.
I think the plot point of whether Shikaku or Sumidori woke up in Sumidori's body was purposely left in vague because its answer was spared for more important moment in the story. I can envison two scenarios in my head. Scenario 1 : Balsamico wakes up in Halkenburg's body and gets killed by Halkenburg's followers who are waiting right next to his bed. Halkenburg gains necessary proof for Benjamin. To imitate Balsamico properly Halkenburg's ability would need something like gaining swapped person's memories. The question is would Benjamin receive Balsamico's ability after Balsamico's soul dies or the body. Scenario 2 : Halkenburg as Balsamico goes to Benjamin and try to kamikaze attack him with bio weapon. After the fact Balsamico's body dies from bio weapon and Halkenburg come back to his orginal body with successful or unsuccessful try.
Honestly, my feeling is a lot of people want Sumidori to have survived and ultimately returned to his own body because it's just kind of sad if he died for real. But IMO it just is sad, and that completely fits with the turn Halk has taken after his awakening. Halkenburg is asking for sacrifices; we can't expect his followers to lay down their lives without actually losing them.

Like if his followers can just come back to their orginal bodies after disposing of the just taken over body, killing a prince or getting themselves killed and everything without any trace back to Halkenburg that would satisfy Juistice Bureau (assuming they will choose targets properly) you gotta start to wonder where are the conditions for all of it. Tho iirc it was stated that Halkenburg put his life on the line for each shot but we don't know what it exactly means like maybe if he miss the shot he or the person whose soul is in the arrow die etc.
I don't think Tserriednich Beyond child because there no tension. Kurapika already wants to deal with him and would have no problem with Longhi killing him. But a young Prince is a different story imo the 13th Prince is Beyond son.
Popular theory. I don't buy it! Beyond's been planning this way too long to only get a child in position that recently, and he wouldn't plan on a little kid (with very poor queen support) winning the War.
Vict isnt dead because he hasn't passed on his ability to Benjamin yet. If he did then Might would have not trusted Vict enough to ask him whats going on and wouldn't have waited in place on the sign language. Might would have immediatley gone on the defensive
It's still not known if it's Vict-in-follower or follower-in-Vict dying that would trigger the Benjamin Baton. In Shikaku's case, Shikaku-in-Sumidori could very well have died before the Baton pass - we don't know the timing there.
Agreed on Zhang Lei's ability being a long con that may not see much practical use in the war; he kind of reminds me of Doran Martell of ASOIAF in that I can foresee his demise coming as a result of being a genius long-term planner, but a lacking short-term one. This was a fantastic chapter and I can't wait to see Burger's plan unfold, but I'm honestly still not over the Hei-Ly/Nasubi conspiracy theory. I went back and re-read the chapter focused on Tserreid's goon squad (394 for those curious) and there is a panel where guard Bork is contemplating Hei-Ly's current motivations. She specifically recalls that T-reid poached a "tattoo artist" into his personal staffing BEFORE Morena completed her hostile takeover... most likely the same tattooed man we've seen chilling with T pre-cruise and picking up lost kids from Meteor City during the troupe founding flashback. Not only does this further confirm my mega hunch that the phantom troupe was framed for the Kurta genocide but it also implies that someone felt the need to forcefully take the Hei-Leash from T Diddy. Whether this party felt the actions of this prince-affiliated crime syndicate had grown too heinous for Kakin's image -- or just heinous enough to be used as tools -- it only makes sense that someone high in Kakin government could've pulled it off. Nasubi's her real daddy too which I'm sure you brought up. Lots of great stuff ahead for sure. Finally: am I dumb or is there currently no disproving that Getty's curse ghosts are the result of Cammy's Have-Nots doing a test run?
Very good catch on the preemptive tattoo artist poaching! Missed that connection myself. Re: Fugetsu's curse, it's really just all the characters with knowledge on the subject telling us (and thinking privately) that these are ambient, weak spirits. Mechanically I guess it's possible that they're wrong and there's a Have-Not who's gone for a max-distance, minimum-effectiveness curse play, but that doesn't actually explain Fugetsu's condition (the new ability to use her door more times, the addictive component, clearly wearing herself out, etc) any better. So if we need to discover the cause of the addicting power-provider anyway, why imagine there's a 2nd distinct cause that just so happened to occur simultaneously and do basically nothing in addition?
the nasubi mastermind theory from last video and this one is very cool but i'm reluctant to believe it bc it doesn't fit with the impression i have of his character; every glance we've had of him indicated that he is seriously doing this ceremony and doesn't intend to interfere (for example his internal monologue in ch362, which ends with "down to a single blessed child")
He's serious about doing the ceremony but he also thinks he still has an important role to play in it, as he tells Halkenburg. If he were committed to not interfering at all, then he'd have no role to play and he wouldn't tell Halk that he has to stay alive.

His role can be the person who puts the corpses of the princes in the coffins for the ceremony (and then be the last to die for all the coffins to be filled and the ceremony to be able to end -> he “cannot die until the ceremony ends bc he has a role to play” would fit perfectly), or/and he’s the reason for the hands that prevented the twins from escaping, for example. He _is_ the king so it’s intuitive anyway to think that he would play a role in the succession war as the supervisor, and in the ceremony in a literal way, as in he’s linked to it via nen. Like, yeah, obviously he would be, wouldn’t he? It makes a lot less sense to me for his dialogue of “being part of the ceremony and not being able to die until it’s over bc he has a role in it” to allude to something he himself decided he wanted to do. He’s still part of the ceremony and has a role to play, but that role is that of the king, and part of it is specifically not interfering between the princes, not helping or hindering any one of them in particular (which he would be doing by being the mastermind behind Kaiser and helping fuugetsu + conspiring against luzurus. Also I’m so sorry for not remembering but what was the _motive_ for him as the Kaiser / justice bureau mastermind that you had thought of?). He also said to halkenburg in the same conversation that this is _their_ (the princes’) succession war. He genuinely intends for them to kill each other between themselves on their own is what I mean by taking it seriously and therefore not interfering.

Even if he did, we've got the express caveat that this "first come, first serve" rule would be overridden by the sheer power of Halkenburg's bow - much like how it went right through Culdcept's rules to get Shikaku. Halkenburg just seems to beat single opponents regardless of matchup.
@7:40 it's possible Kaiser was taken over from one the undocumented Hulkenberg shots earlier and that he knows his true mother due to that. Remember Melody mentioned his heartbeat is weird, like he is being manipulated.
I don't think a Halk follower in Kaiser's body would have a particularly weird heartbeat. Plus we see in Kaiser's head and he's cautious and uncertain about Halk - definitely not a follower of his.

We need to talk about Wobble. I thought Wario sharing the information with Kaiser was just an assurance from Halkenburgs side of the same sentiment Benjamin had, sharing information with the justice bureau to have them on their side for a long time. Idk how much was told though, whether the whole plan to show his honesty and have proper backing and faith from kaiser, or only part of it to keep him atleast cognizant that they aren't enemies, and to be at arms length for safety, like how kaizer met with wario instead of halk directly.
Im ready to declare 13th prince is beyonds son. Same hair color, dragon nen beast also has beyonds colors. The nen beast isolates 13th prince just like beyond is isolated from the conflict. 13th prince is young enough for beyond to manipulate and isnt running out of energy the same way the 12th prince and 11th prince did when spamming their nen beast. 13th prince has literally no plot threads and as a child his plot is likely tied toba character with more agency like beyond. Finally 13th princes mom handily abandoned her daughter to protect her son for a reason. Clearly she values the son over her daughter, but this is an extreme. Hey I've got a theory that Prince Tserriednich's second nen beast is actually Wobbles guardian spirit beast and that providing him this power is some kind of condition in order to take control of or nullify him. There's no solid evidence but it goes a long way to explain some mysteries or facts that just don't make sense as they're presented: - T shouldn't be able to activate an ability using Zetsu, it goes against what we know about Nen. Theta calls out as much. Even if we assume is possesses some sort of residual nen then it shouldn't last as long as it does, we see his guardian spirit beast vanish almost instantly. Consider then the alternative, he needs to activate Zetsu because by doing so he lets his guard down and allows this foreign power to take control. It goes from making no sense to a lot. - T shouldn't be able to just conjure such an advanced ability unknowingly whilst still so new to nen regardless of how much of a prodigy he is, it's leagues above any other character in this series. The closest we've seen is characters unknowingly using nen but it still mimics their intentions. This beast on the other hand seems like a complete foreign entity to Tserriednich which makes much more sense if the beast isn't his. The only other instance we've seen of someone receiving a power so unfamiliar to them is with the guardian spirit beasts. - We obviously haven't seen Wobbles nen beast, just some ominous formless nen. - T's ability doesn't make sense. The "fake" version of himself that everyone sees seemingly isn't controlled by him as when he sees this fake future, it's from a second person perspective (the beast). So then who's will does this fake T follow? Is it how he would act if the power hadn't activated? For the fist use of the power that makes sense as he wouldn't be expecting the power to activate, but what about the second and third activation, ect? It's quite hard to come up with a suitable explanation for why he doesn't just experience the fake future in first person, it was remove this conundrum entirely. Well I think the answer is hinted at. The first time it activates he's oblivious, the third he's shot dead, but the second he almost looks possessed. As for why wobbles beast would latch onto T, my guess would be that he's considered the biggest threat. I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts on this as it's been stuck in my head for a while but I've not had anyone to share it with who obsesses over the story to the same degree.
I have a few reservations: we did get an explanation of how the 666 Beast works during zetsu (it's storing up aura during all the time before zetsu), it's totally in keeping with Tserri's genius status to spontaneously manifest an amazing ability, and it'd be bizarre for an innocent baby's GSB to take the horrifying form of the 666 Beast. Plus, on a meta level, this being the case would basically make Woble responsible for whatever Tserriednich accomplishes from here on out, since her Beast could've just let Theta kill him. I don't think we're gonna have a situation where we say "I guess this evil baby decided it's worth letting Tserri kill a bunch of people in order to manipulate him later or something."
If Halkenburgs body dies with Mights soul in it, does benjamin get mights nen ability? It would be a tell that Halkenburg doesn’t know about. Also what if benjamin baton worked on body death rather than soul and so he doesn’t get mights ability as mights body is still alive. Benjamin and Halkenburg could easily take each other out and descend the boat into chaos
We still don't know which of the two dying leads to the Baton pass, or if it has to be both (also possible, as Halk very likely killed Shikaku-in-Sumidori shortly after he woke back up).
I assume sumidori in shikaku died first, as he was not present for shikaku in sumidori waking up. We don't know if the loyal sacrifice body requires the target body to die in order to wake up from the coma. But we do know that we've never seen the loyal sacrifice body wake up while the target body was still alive. Going by Halkenburgs beliefs that battle destroys the will of the loser. It suggests that so long as the target body is alive, the soul in the loyal sacrifice body will sit in a coma without a will. I also think that there being no going back to ones old body is in line with Halkenburgs willingness to sacrifice everything for his cause. I also think there is a narrative purpose as to why it was revealed that Halkenburg and Benjamin share the same mother. Togashi seems very main plot driven in these latest chapters. Not much meandering or filler. "Might" play a role in this developing conflict
I guess so, but if that's the condition, the War is vulnerable to just destroying the Urn. That might be even easier (or at least no harder) than killing Nasubi, and since he'd no doubt be guarding the Urn, it kinda ends in the same place.
When I say "I can't die until I've read the end of HxH!" I'm not saying I'm literally unable to, I'm expressing intent. I read Nasubi's statement the same way (I don't think he has like a Camilla cat setup where he's literally unkillable). And for something this wording-specific, I'd need someone who's read the Japanese original to convince me it's the "I literally can't die" option.

you think "We Need To Talk About Kevin" points toward dark Halkenburg stuff coming later? It's about a sociopathic teenager with mommy issues who murders people with a bow and arrow; lot of the details could definitely fit, plus we have the panel of dark-faced Halkenburg where Benjy is coveting his ability. Maybe there's even some unexpected thematic convergence with Morena. Halk loves everything that is fair; Morena wants to destroy this dung heap of a world, apparently in order to put a stop to grave and manifest global injustices
You could certainly speculate from the plot of the novel about Halk and Duazul's (reported) bad relationship! But yeah, it sounds more like Tserriednich or Morena really, so I think it's more "interesting to see another thing Togashi's referencing for vague thematic connection" than "this is a specific hint about Halkenburg in particular."
How much of Halkenburgs shield+ bow and arrow is the nen beast vs his personal hatsu? If it's a joint attack, then Halkenburg is the only one combining hatsu with beast this intricately.
It does seem that Halkenburg's throne-seeking "awakening" coincided with a sort of Nen awakening based on his facility with the Nen bow and arrow. But I'll give a lot of credit to the Beast for seemingly manifesting the perfect ability in someone who'd previously known nothing about Nen. It's powerful and matches his exact strengths.
The Kurapika theory was great. Also do you think that Nasubi is a completely rogue compared to his ancestors? I mean I had a strange feeling that he’s cooperative with Beyond to a degree but again we don’t know how much, if there was a previous hint about their relationship in a previous chapter let me know. I do not think Halk is the Beyond child but it is strange why Unma just gave her son to Duazal and Nasubi definitely knows, I don’t think it’s as simple as a way to save him from assassination attempts.
You're right that the "net rumor" version of events with Halk and Unma could be skewed or missing information (even if Kaiser knows the full story!). There could be a more complicated motive in play. I'm more curious than ever to know the real relationship between Halk and Duazul.
Totally irrelevant to the subject at hand but I found the "caramel" pronunciation section to be amusing. You were close on the second pronunciation, but the middle syllable is actually dropped in every part of the US I've heard the word "caramel" spoken. From my experience, hearing "caramel" as "car-mull" is the unequivocal norm, and multiple people have told me that they have never heard anyone say "caramel" with its full three syllables. I'm curious as to which region of North America you're from that the "car-mull" pronunciation is uncommon enough for you not to know it. Really, really curious. Guessing northeast US/southeast Canada, but that's where I'm from and people there say "car-mull." I would love to know where "care-uh-mell" is the norm.

i might be wrong but doesn't the feather on Wario's hand from his beast nen kinda proves he is a loyal follower?? if he wasn't the feather would disappear, that would be enough to fill him in on the plan Also i don't think we got confirmation of what happens to the person soul when the swap occur, i do think it still shares the body but the one in control is one of the followers, therefore killing it would only kill the original soul of the body, Halkeburg could use this to "fake" his own death and after dealing with Benjamin he would kill Tserriednich and return to his original body "resurrecting" which would only make him more "god-like" to his followers
I do think it proves he's become loyal to Halk. What I don't know is why a loyal Halk follower is spilling the beans about the body swap to Kaiser, if that's indeed what he's doing (the conversation gets cut off).
About the beacon being nasubi, what if the beacon is the nen script room with the 14 caskets and the mysterious thing in the middle? I assume nasubi saying he’s part of the war now means that he must die and film the 14th coffin once there is one prince left.
I don't see how readers think that the 4th Prince could have read the letter with his power without anyone knowing. After all people would know if he did, even if he alters the future people will remember the original timeline so they will remember him reading it even if in the new timeline he didn't let them in. Theta remembered after all.
Well, if he didn't read it in the original timeline but did read it in the altered future, it's possible. But ten seconds still isn't enough time, it doesn't fit his personality to care about the letter, and there would be no interesting payoff since they wanted him to read it anyway.

Are you saying he saw in the future that he doesnt' read it and so decided to read it just in case? I think he would only alter the future for something significant and not for mundane things. Great analysis of Halkenburg's hypothesis testing; you're the only TH-camr with this level of understanding of the current plot + able to use that knowledge to reach a new conclusion I did not consider. I was originally of the opinion that Sumidori woke up back in his own body, but Halkenburg going ahead with the current plan only makes sense with your scenario. It was indeed Shikaku, so you can't just spam arrows, commit Sudoku, and get your follower back... makes sense. Too bad the downside of this level of quality is that the audience who'd value this type of content is pretty niche due to the barriers to entry to even understand what you're talking about... so getting to insane numbers will be a challenge, I think. But you never know. One thing I need to know though is your standing on the arrow's capabilities. Do you support Balsamico's interpretation and think it cannot be used to take over other princes, or do you subscribe to the indirect attack cop-out? To me, Togashi was speaking through Balsamico in that scene. The character had the same information as the reader, if not more, and his assumption is reasonable. It's not the usual character being wrong because of imperfect information, so it would make no sense for Togashi to deceive the reader in that way. To me, it's obviously the author clarifying a tricky and very important interaction through a character. I discard any analysis that entertains the possibility of Halkenburg using the ability on other princes.
In short, I agree and think Balsamilco was laying down rules we should expect to be followed going forward. Also, on a narrative meta-gaming level: if Halk were gonna nail a prince with an arrow for a huge shake-up to the story, it's now or never, and I don't see how it could be now (how could Balsalkenburg set it up?).
I wonder if King Nasubi and all Royals of Kakkin are actually trapped in this ceremony since the founding of Kakkin and is hoping to be freed, hence why they invited the hunters who knows a lot about Nen.
In a way, they're all extensions of the ancestor-king's will, which is a bit sad. But Nasubi at least is fine with it: we see in his head in 362 and he's excited for a new War that'll give Kakin a strong new king.
I really hope some of the next chapters bring back the Ryodan. I really think they, and also Kurapika, will die near the end of the arc, so the next arc will be about Leorio. Not so sure about Hisoka dying tho
I don't see Tserri being the elder prince that comes to the bargaining table. He didn't receive the letter. So he doesn't even know that secrets are being handed out.
True enough! But the letter scheme tells us what Kurapika's basic idea is: get a new alliance going with a powerful elder prince. That being the case, some way of bargaining with Tserri could always come up later.

Only Tenftory was actually taking the class. Sakata and Hashito are there as guard and weren't participating. So he has one extremely inexperienced Nen user that Kurapika just gave him, yeah - he's far less useful than most of the other princes at the moment when it comes to a showdown.
I don't understand the plan for possessing Balsamilco, if the Grimel Arrow's consciousness switch is permanent and Halkenburg cannot return to his body, hence fulfilling Wario's prediction that "Halkenburg is going to die" but what would actually happen is that Balsamilco dies with Halkenburg's body... What is his plan now? Can he activate Grimel again as Balsamilco, gaining its aura fromthe loyalty of his original subordinates or Balsa's? Can his Nen Beast be transferred to Balsa's body? And if so, wouldn't that just expose Balsa as actually Halkenburg to anyone other than the princes? If he can't swap bodies again, how is he supposed to reclaim the throne when his new vessel doesn't have royal blood, or in the case the Nen Beast doesn't linger to him, show he's actually Halkenburg? Wouldn't he need to claim the throne to fulfill his objectives? There's so many issues with the idea that Grimel's bodyswap is permanent that the theory has to be incorrect, otherwise I can't fathom how Halk's planning to win the Succession War otherwise
I mean, he's explicitly planning to stay in Balsamilco's body. That's why he calls Unma and explains that he won't be around to see her at the banquets anymore. He's not calling her to say "FYI, I'm in this Balsamilco guy's body for like eight more hours and then everything's back to normal, love you Mom!"
Halkenburg wanted to end the war and establish a democracy more so than just becoming king. He hopefully just wants to kill the dangerous princes and make a deal with the younger ones
@@ExtraOtter Can we prove Halk called Unma after firing the arrow? Doesn't add up for me that Halk called Unma as Balsa knowing she'll probably wouldn't recognize his voice. It has more sense he's calling her before firing Grimel, and in search for assistance of her mom. Given she's the most influential queen, so it could make sense she was the reason that Halk got followers to gain Grimel's aura from.

@@crocky6996 That's the order it's shown in, but I guess it's possible that it's a cut back to the past? But Halk was clearly informing her of some kind of success because she's happy and proud of him; she's not saying "Well I hope your plan works, good luck!" So I'm fairly confident. Halk could easily prove his identity to her despite the Balsamilco voice.
Some points to make on the perma-swap controversy (so I'm not repeating myself ad nauseam in comment responses):
1) When Sumidori first swaps into Shikaku, he establishes who he is immediately by addressing Halkenburg as "Prince" and he's recognized at once. When "Sumidori" wakes up later, he gives the wrong address, calling the prince by name instead. And based on Halkenburg's expression, this is a dead giveaway: he's already outed himself as not the real Sumidori.
2) Halkenburg is acting exactly like he believes it's a permanent swap and he's planning accordingly. He warns Unma what's going on and that he won't be at the banquet (unnecessary if he's only going to be in Balsa's body long enough for a kamikaze attack on Ben). More immediately, he needs the "Halkenburg" body to die as proof to gain Benjamin's trust. That whole conversation is pointless if he doesn't plan to let the Halk body die - and if he is, he clearly doesn't think the swap is temporary (or he'd end up as a soul with no body to return to).
3) The scene of Halkenburg asking his followers to lay down their lives in order to test his theories and maximize the chance to win the War makes it pretty clear that Halkenburg has been hardened into a leader who sacrifices his men. This dramatic change is undermined if it turns out "Everything worked out actually, Sumidori didn't have to sacrifice himself, he went straight back to his real body! Thank goodness!" It's brutal that Sumidori had to die the way he did but that's precisely the turn Halkenburg has just taken.
4) Letting the original "Halkenburg" body die and turning his followers into a diffuse movement with no single king-like ruler is perfectly in line with Halkenburg's philosophy (and David Grimal's, the namesake for his bow). It's exactly what he'd do! And again, that means a perma-swap. It's a dramatic and terrifying thing to do, but Halkenburg is fearless and committed and believes in his own democratic ideals, so that's just what we'd expect from him.

😭i went back and checked the volume and yeah you're right the reaction is very different i hadn't noticed it before. when taking shikaku's body sumidori says your highness versus sumidori's body reawakening and saying 9th prince halkenberg. a full body swap would definitely make the ability less broken but now i'm wondering what they're doing with those swapped bodies.
Point 1 and 3 I definitely agree with. Point 3 and 4 I'm more iffy about. I think it's concievable that he asked his mother to use her influence and power to help fake his death. Furthermore, I feel like it was implied Halkenburg still intends to win the war, and I don't see how he's supposed to do that if he's forever stuck in Balsamilco's body.
Also, what do you make of the 'mass faintings'? Being able to predict his supporters losing consciousness and then returning to normal seems weird if it doesn't have anything to do with his ability or the swap is permanent. Even assuming an "ideal", non-permanent swap, this bit has me confused. Did everyone lose consciousness at the same time? Did it happen before or after Halkenburg put his consciousness inside Might? What does this imply?
@@Raichuchuu Losing consciousness seems to be an effect of receiving the mark, as it happened to all his guards in Room 1009. Unclear if there's any connection to how the bow works (other than the mark being a requirement for people to "charge" the bow with him).
And the swaps being permanent doesn't mean Halk has to spend the rest of the War in Balsamilco's body! Just to present one scenario, he could let the original Halk body die, then swap bodies with one of his guards, and guard-in-Balsamilco could carry out some kind of kamikaze mission while Halk-in-guard survives. His guards understand how his power works - I don't think he's going to lose their loyalty because he's not in his original body anymore.

I am a bit sceptical about him being able to use his ability in Balsamilco's body, though, because of the blood sample required to initiate the seed urn ceremony and gain the GSB. Does the guardian spirit beast move over to Balsamilco's body? if so, how would Halkenburg hope to reliably hide it from Benjamin's people, assuming he doesn't know about zetsu? Or does it hide on its own when convenient? If it stays with Halks original body, can he even use it when he's inside balsamilco? And would it move over to his consciousness when his body is destroyed?
Essentially, does the seed urn identify him by his body or his consciousness? I'm leaning towards the former, because of the aforementioned blood requirement, although all my questions would be more easily answered by the latter.
Honestly, I am a bit torn, because while I want his resolve to sacrifice his allies to not be undermined, I also want him to complete his character arc with his own character design and facial expressions. So I am somewhat biased towards the non-permanent body swap.
I really feel bad for Zhang Lei, he's a high ranking prince yet his entire faction are ignorant when it comes to nen , I'm really hoping his nen beast's ability could give him any chance.

Hulkenberg using Trigonometry to get a shot on Balsa is insane. What's more so is the sheer willingness that he is willing to go even allowing his own body to die (if its true that he can't switch back anyway). His ability within the context of the Succession War, is so far perhaps the most versatile and best suited to this sort of conflict. It's actually pretty scary. My question is how much further he is willing to go to win, like if you are willing to sacrifice your own body then I'm assuming nothing is off the table here.
Yeah, I think the newly "awakened" Halkenburg is only going to get scarier. There's potential for him to be an ends-justify-the-means fanatic from here on out who'll keep stacking sacrifice on sacrifice for the sake of his ideals.

The coolest thing is Togashi keeps adding media into his story. Yu-Gi-Oh, Wario, les dissonances etc. I believe it's things he likes & letting us get to know him a lil
2:08 glad someone else noticed the perma-swap potential. I follow this line of thought as well. I would argue for having an unblockable mind control ability that goes through walls there needs to be a big downside, and that is it.
2:20 something to add in here in case nobody else has brought it up: while it seems like shikaku is inside sumidori's body here, when vict gets attacked by the arrow benjamin says "shikaku is dead, but vict is still alive" with togashi purposefully not letting us know when shikaku died exactly, but also assuring us that the body swap doesn't trigger Benjamin Baton
so, if shikaku was in sumidori's body, they killed him after an interrogation, but it's also possible that the third possibility Halkenburg mentioned was true, shikaku and sumidori inhabit the same body, meaning shikaku died with his body and sumidori returned to his own. if this is true, it makes halkenburg more confident in his ability, knowing his comrades can't die as long as they protect the original body, but it also means balsamilco is in a "Get Out" situation; maybe it's a situation too complicated to be true or exploited by the story, but it's more interesting than simple body swap, because it means that returning halkenburg to his body (somehow) saves balsamilco on the spot, maybe there's even the condition that killing the original body kills that person, and it'd also explain why sumidori's body was unconscious until shikaku died, maybe it was maintained alive with nen but it had no soul
if halk and balsa are cohabiting the same body it might be possible that benjamin's gsb can exorcise halk out of balsa's body bringing balsa back to benjamin's side and if that happens halk would be fucked since they'd fully understand how the ability works so that could also be a possibility of what happens next

Yeah, I really feel now that I should've talked about this more in the video, but I'm just utterly persuaded by the panel of "Sumidori" waking up that it was Shikaku in there. And now Halk is certainly acting like he won't be swapping back into his body (plans to kill it to provide "proof" to Benjamin, warns Unma about the whole situation so she won't panic, etc) which I take to be extra confirmation.

If hawlkenburgs ability is as restrictive as you think it is, what would his play with sergeant might be? To transfer himself into Benjamin's body and declare marshall law? Or will he kill is body and attempt to move his soul back into it after he kills Benjamin? All these options seem riskier than making an army of nen users, using the bow in tandem, to win the contest by force.
I wanted to talk about the plans for Balsamilco's body but the video was already way too long! Basically I don't know how he's going to get a group of followers near "Balsamilco" during a meeting with Prince Benjamin (in order to fire an arrow at him) and I don't know how he can make any other sort of assassination attempt when Ben would have to be an idiot not to be on high alert near him. So with a quick Ben swap/kill off the table (as far as I can see), I think he must be playing a slightly longer game.

To be fair I did assume the halkenberg crew telling the truth partially because they assume the justice bureau are neutral but I a more in-depth reason could be the justice bureau seem to oppose Benjamin’s over stepping power.
But also they want to keep in good faith with them as Benjamin says he needs to do this for years after this war and halkenberg likely will need them more to try and bring more due process with his democracy
It's a good point that they have Benjamin as a common enemy. But do they have any idea Kaiser's being manipulated, or who by? If they do, that's extremely suspicious; if they don't, it's a catastrophic blunder to reveal so much to him.

Honestly seems like the 3rd, 5th, 10th and 11th princes have nen beasts that require intellect and encourage partnership to maximize. Great for Kurapika. Compare their beasts to the other's which are more straight forward in their purpose. It's a bit telling.
Some attention was brought up to the "first come, first served" Manipulator rule this chapter and I think that's because Halkenburg will try to swap one of his guards with Kaiser, only to discover he's already being manipulated.

Been thinking about how the reasoning behind Halk favoritism from Unma may be because Benjamin is a monster (and a part in Nasubi's agenda?), Tserri is another monster (a part in Beyond's agenda?) and she thought that she needed a son she could manipulate and/or protect from the plans of Nasubi and Beyond.
Given what we know of Ben and Tserri, it's no surprise if Halk is pretty brutal in pursuit of his aims now that he's awakened.

Pleasure to watch as always, what's your thoughts on Balsimilco (apparently possessed by Halk at this point) requesting to postpone the trial by quoting equipment issues? I don't get why and it feels quite important. Really liking the point about taking out Nasubi to forcefully end the Succession War, Halkenburg really need a nen-expert to discuss the nen technicalities and he too might come to the same answer.
Re: "equipment issues," it seems to me like Halkenburg knows about the shoe-delivered bio-weapon (presumably he did a very careful inventory of everything on Balsa's person sometime before the phone call) and intended to drop a reference to that. His excuse is that the shoe had a mechanical failure, and the "proof" that he's sorted it out will be the Halkenburg body dying by the correct symptoms.
Regarding Zhang, I get what you're saying but I have to wonder if the Beast won't still have some kind of power that will aid with the immediate succession war. Otherwise, he's arguably in the weakest position of any prince in spite of his seniority or intellect. Neither he, nor any of his guards know nen and most of them don't seem to have a lot of promise for it, judging by their input this chapter. He's theoretically got the largest mafia family on the boat at his disposal, but so far hasn't found a way to use them. Tubeppa and even Luzurus seem to have better resources and more useful nen beasts. Even the younger princes who might not have much apptitude or experience have powerful protectors like Melody, Bisky and Kurapika. So it's nice that we might finally be getting somewhere with the coins.
Sure, but we've been told his intuitions already: that the GSB ability isn't good for the War. That turning out to be basically true shouldn't be that great a surprise. (And in terms of being in the weakest position, hey, he's got an alliance with Kurapika! That ain't nothing.)
I’m super curious to see if Balsamilco’s nen will be transferred to Benjamin when they kill Halkenburg’s body. It would nearly instantly give them away and definitely tips the scale tremendously on Benjiman getting Martial Law privileges.

The 3rd theory about how to end the Succession War makes sooo much sense, if you also take in account that there are 14 coffins in the "nen-inscribed" chambers, at this point it's made pretty clear that the last surviving prince has to kill Nasubi too (or Nasubi has to suicide) so that:
1: His corpse can be put in 1 of the coffins giving power to the next King
2: The hunting grounds for the Succession War on the Black Whale 1 are actually eliminated.

Unma suddenly became so interesting, her relationships with Duazul, Tserri, Benjamin and Halkenberg elevates her character potential. Maybe she is the reason for Tserri views on women or maybe a part of the reason
I wonder! Misogyny is clearly a big element in Tserri's whole American Psycho murder habit, so it'd be interesting if Togashi hints at what went wrong in his brain to get him there.
But he could also be a misogynist for the same reason he's a psycho killer in general: he's just plain evil-natured. I think it's alright for some villains, like Hisoka, to just never get an "explanation" for how crazy they are. Either way, I trust Togashi's call.
@ExtraOtter quite possible, I feel Togashi will play with the nurture and nature aspect to explain why Tserri is as he is, he has done some of that with snippets of Tserri psyche and what we get from his close confidants thoughts of him. Personally I believe a person is formed by both nature and experiences and would love to see some exploration of those concepts via his character.
I also feel we see some of that through Halkenburg (tying back to his and Nasubi’s conversation)

My guess for Kurapika's deduction would be that since the death barrier moves with the ship, it is locked to a person or object aboard the ship(probably the seed urn imo) that is fueling it, meaning it can be destroyed or exorcised, giving them a concrete objective that can save the rest of the younger princes, and would be in the interest of most of the princes to work towards. Why that is implied to be a better situation than there not, or at least possibly not, being a death barrier when it is bound to be more tightly guarded than anything except maybe the king, I have no idea.

Do you think it’s on the table that Zhang Lei dies without us seeing what his coins actually do? We seem to have had quite a few cutaways for the mystery (in which he metaly complains how people aren’t making any progress with it) and I’d feel a bit cheated if they didn’t do anything until after the war (unless he survives it I suppose).
If I had to guess, we'll find out what they do (maybe even next chapter) but it won't be particularly high-impact for the War, just as Zhang Lei feared. I agree it's gotten enough attention that it'd be weird to drop it completely with a quick Zhang Lei death.

I think the plot point of whether Shikaku or Sumidori woke up in Sumidori's body was purposely left in vague because its answer was spared for more important moment in the story. I can envison two scenarios in my head.
Scenario 1 : Balsamico wakes up in Halkenburg's body and gets killed by Halkenburg's followers who are waiting right next to his bed. Halkenburg gains necessary proof for Benjamin. To imitate Balsamico properly Halkenburg's ability would need something like gaining swapped person's memories.
The question is would Benjamin receive Balsamico's ability after Balsamico's soul dies or the body.
Scenario 2 : Halkenburg as Balsamico goes to Benjamin and try to kamikaze attack him with bio weapon. After the fact Balsamico's body dies from bio weapon and Halkenburg come back to his orginal body with successful or unsuccessful try.
Honestly, my feeling is a lot of people want Sumidori to have survived and ultimately returned to his own body because it's just kind of sad if he died for real. But IMO it just is sad, and that completely fits with the turn Halk has taken after his awakening. Halkenburg is asking for sacrifices; we can't expect his followers to lay down their lives without actually losing them.

Like if his followers can just come back to their orginal bodies after disposing of the just taken over body, killing a prince or getting themselves killed and everything without any trace back to Halkenburg that would satisfy Juistice Bureau (assuming they will choose targets properly) you gotta start to wonder where are the conditions for all of it.
Tho iirc it was stated that Halkenburg put his life on the line for each shot but we don't know what it exactly means like maybe if he miss the shot he or the person whose soul is in the arrow die etc.
I don't think Tserriednich Beyond child because there no tension. Kurapika already wants to deal with him and would have no problem with Longhi killing him. But a young Prince is a different story imo the 13th Prince is Beyond son.
Popular theory. I don't buy it! Beyond's been planning this way too long to only get a child in position that recently, and he wouldn't plan on a little kid (with very poor queen support) winning the War.

It's still not known if it's Vict-in-follower or follower-in-Vict dying that would trigger the Benjamin Baton. In Shikaku's case, Shikaku-in-Sumidori could very well have died before the Baton pass - we don't know the timing there.

Agreed on Zhang Lei's ability being a long con that may not see much practical use in the war; he kind of reminds me of Doran Martell of ASOIAF in that I can foresee his demise coming as a result of being a genius long-term planner, but a lacking short-term one.
This was a fantastic chapter and I can't wait to see Burger's plan unfold, but I'm honestly still not over the Hei-Ly/Nasubi conspiracy theory. I went back and re-read the chapter focused on Tserreid's goon squad (394 for those curious) and there is a panel where guard Bork is contemplating Hei-Ly's current motivations. She specifically recalls that T-reid poached a "tattoo artist" into his personal staffing BEFORE Morena completed her hostile takeover... most likely the same tattooed man we've seen chilling with T pre-cruise and picking up lost kids from Meteor City during the troupe founding flashback.
Not only does this further confirm my mega hunch that the phantom troupe was framed for the Kurta genocide but it also implies that someone felt the need to forcefully take the Hei-Leash from T Diddy. Whether this party felt the actions of this prince-affiliated crime syndicate had grown too heinous for Kakin's image -- or just heinous enough to be used as tools -- it only makes sense that someone high in Kakin government could've pulled it off. Nasubi's her real daddy too which I'm sure you brought up.

Re: Fugetsu's curse, it's really just all the characters with knowledge on the subject telling us (and thinking privately) that these are ambient, weak spirits. Mechanically I guess it's possible that they're wrong and there's a Have-Not who's gone for a max-distance, minimum-effectiveness curse play, but that doesn't actually explain Fugetsu's condition (the new ability to use her door more times, the addictive component, clearly wearing herself out, etc) any better. So if we need to discover the cause of the addicting power-provider anyway, why imagine there's a 2nd distinct cause that just so happened to occur simultaneously and do basically nothing in addition?

the nasubi mastermind theory from last video and this one is very cool but i'm reluctant to believe it bc it doesn't fit with the impression i have of his character; every glance we've had of him indicated that he is seriously doing this ceremony and doesn't intend to interfere (for example his internal monologue in ch362, which ends with "down to a single blessed child")
He's serious about doing the ceremony but he also thinks he still has an important role to play in it, as he tells Halkenburg. If he were committed to not interfering at all, then he'd have no role to play and he wouldn't tell Halk that he has to stay alive.

His role can be the person who puts the corpses of the princes in the coffins for the ceremony (and then be the last to die for all the coffins to be filled and the ceremony to be able to end -> he “cannot die until the ceremony ends bc he has a role to play” would fit perfectly), or/and he’s the reason for the hands that prevented the twins from escaping, for example.
He _is_ the king so it’s intuitive anyway to think that he would play a role in the succession war as the supervisor, and in the ceremony in a literal way, as in he’s linked to it via nen. Like, yeah, obviously he would be, wouldn’t he? It makes a lot less sense to me for his dialogue of “being part of the ceremony and not being able to die until it’s over bc he has a role in it” to allude to something he himself decided he wanted to do.
He’s still part of the ceremony and has a role to play, but that role is that of the king, and part of it is specifically not interfering between the princes, not helping or hindering any one of them in particular (which he would be doing by being the mastermind behind Kaiser and helping fuugetsu + conspiring against luzurus. Also I’m so sorry for not remembering but what was the _motive_ for him as the Kaiser / justice bureau mastermind that you had thought of?).
He also said to halkenburg in the same conversation that this is _their_ (the princes’) succession war.
He genuinely intends for them to kill each other between themselves on their own is what I mean by taking it seriously and therefore not interfering.

Even if he did, we've got the express caveat that this "first come, first serve" rule would be overridden by the sheer power of Halkenburg's bow - much like how it went right through Culdcept's rules to get Shikaku. Halkenburg just seems to beat single opponents regardless of matchup.

@7:40 it's possible Kaiser was taken over from one the undocumented Hulkenberg shots earlier and that he knows his true mother due to that. Remember Melody mentioned his heartbeat is weird, like he is being manipulated.
I don't think a Halk follower in Kaiser's body would have a particularly weird heartbeat. Plus we see in Kaiser's head and he's cautious and uncertain about Halk - definitely not a follower of his.

I thought Wario sharing the information with Kaiser was just an assurance from Halkenburgs side of the same sentiment Benjamin had, sharing information with the justice bureau to have them on their side for a long time. Idk how much was told though, whether the whole plan to show his honesty and have proper backing and faith from kaiser, or only part of it to keep him atleast cognizant that they aren't enemies, and to be at arms length for safety, like how kaizer met with wario instead of halk directly.

The nen beast isolates 13th prince just like beyond is isolated from the conflict.
13th prince is young enough for beyond to manipulate and isnt running out of energy the same way the 12th prince and 11th prince did when spamming their nen beast.
13th prince has literally no plot threads and as a child his plot is likely tied toba character with more agency like beyond.
Finally 13th princes mom handily abandoned her daughter to protect her son for a reason. Clearly she values the son over her daughter, but this is an extreme.
Also it tells us the mother isn't a moral person and would likely cheat on nasabi.
Also being the 12th and 13th mother, she is lowest on the queen power list and has less to lose

Hey I've got a theory that Prince Tserriednich's second nen beast is actually Wobbles guardian spirit beast and that providing him this power is some kind of condition in order to take control of or nullify him.
There's no solid evidence but it goes a long way to explain some mysteries or facts that just don't make sense as they're presented:
- T shouldn't be able to activate an ability using Zetsu, it goes against what we know about Nen. Theta calls out as much. Even if we assume is possesses some sort of residual nen then it shouldn't last as long as it does, we see his guardian spirit beast vanish almost instantly. Consider then the alternative, he needs to activate Zetsu because by doing so he lets his guard down and allows this foreign power to take control. It goes from making no sense to a lot.
- T shouldn't be able to just conjure such an advanced ability unknowingly whilst still so new to nen regardless of how much of a prodigy he is, it's leagues above any other character in this series. The closest we've seen is characters unknowingly using nen but it still mimics their intentions. This beast on the other hand seems like a complete foreign entity to Tserriednich which makes much more sense if the beast isn't his. The only other instance we've seen of someone receiving a power so unfamiliar to them is with the guardian spirit beasts.
- We obviously haven't seen Wobbles nen beast, just some ominous formless nen.
- T's ability doesn't make sense. The "fake" version of himself that everyone sees seemingly isn't controlled by him as when he sees this fake future, it's from a second person perspective (the beast). So then who's will does this fake T follow? Is it how he would act if the power hadn't activated? For the fist use of the power that makes sense as he wouldn't be expecting the power to activate, but what about the second and third activation, ect? It's quite hard to come up with a suitable explanation for why he doesn't just experience the fake future in first person, it was remove this conundrum entirely. Well I think the answer is hinted at. The first time it activates he's oblivious, the third he's shot dead, but the second he almost looks possessed.
As for why wobbles beast would latch onto T, my guess would be that he's considered the biggest threat.
I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts on this as it's been stuck in my head for a while but I've not had anyone to share it with who obsesses over the story to the same degree.
I have a few reservations: we did get an explanation of how the 666 Beast works during zetsu (it's storing up aura during all the time before zetsu), it's totally in keeping with Tserri's genius status to spontaneously manifest an amazing ability, and it'd be bizarre for an innocent baby's GSB to take the horrifying form of the 666 Beast.
Plus, on a meta level, this being the case would basically make Woble responsible for whatever Tserriednich accomplishes from here on out, since her Beast could've just let Theta kill him. I don't think we're gonna have a situation where we say "I guess this evil baby decided it's worth letting Tserri kill a bunch of people in order to manipulate him later or something."

We still don't know which of the two dying leads to the Baton pass, or if it has to be both (also possible, as Halk very likely killed Shikaku-in-Sumidori shortly after he woke back up).
I assume sumidori in shikaku died first, as he was not present for shikaku in sumidori waking up.
We don't know if the loyal sacrifice body requires the target body to die in order to wake up from the coma. But we do know that we've never seen the loyal sacrifice body wake up while the target body was still alive.
Going by Halkenburgs beliefs that battle destroys the will of the loser. It suggests that so long as the target body is alive, the soul in the loyal sacrifice body will sit in a coma without a will.
I also think that there being no going back to ones old body is in line with Halkenburgs willingness to sacrifice everything for his cause.
I also think there is a narrative purpose as to why it was revealed that Halkenburg and Benjamin share the same mother. Togashi seems very main plot driven in these latest chapters. Not much meandering or filler. "Might" play a role in this developing conflict

I guess so, but if that's the condition, the War is vulnerable to just destroying the Urn. That might be even easier (or at least no harder) than killing Nasubi, and since he'd no doubt be guarding the Urn, it kinda ends in the same place.

When I say "I can't die until I've read the end of HxH!" I'm not saying I'm literally unable to, I'm expressing intent. I read Nasubi's statement the same way (I don't think he has like a Camilla cat setup where he's literally unkillable).
And for something this wording-specific, I'd need someone who's read the Japanese original to convince me it's the "I literally can't die" option.

you think "We Need To Talk About Kevin" points toward dark Halkenburg stuff coming later? It's about a sociopathic teenager with mommy issues who murders people with a bow and arrow; lot of the details could definitely fit, plus we have the panel of dark-faced Halkenburg where Benjy is coveting his ability. Maybe there's even some unexpected thematic convergence with Morena. Halk loves everything that is fair; Morena wants to destroy this dung heap of a world, apparently in order to put a stop to grave and manifest global injustices
You could certainly speculate from the plot of the novel about Halk and Duazul's (reported) bad relationship! But yeah, it sounds more like Tserriednich or Morena really, so I think it's more "interesting to see another thing Togashi's referencing for vague thematic connection" than "this is a specific hint about Halkenburg in particular."

If it's a joint attack, then Halkenburg is the only one combining hatsu with beast this intricately.
It does seem that Halkenburg's throne-seeking "awakening" coincided with a sort of Nen awakening based on his facility with the Nen bow and arrow. I mean I had a strange feeling that he’s cooperative with Beyond to a degree but again we don’t know how much, if there was a previous hint about their relationship in a previous chapter let me know. I do not think Halk is the Beyond child but it is strange why Unma just gave her son to Duazal and Nasubi definitely knows, I don’t think it’s as simple as a way to save him from assassination attempts.
You're right that the "net rumor" version of events with Halk and Unma could be skewed or missing information (even if Kaiser knows the full story!). There could be a more complicated motive in play. I'm more curious than ever to know the real relationship between Halk and Duazul.
Totally irrelevant to the subject at hand but I found the "caramel" pronunciation section to be amusing. You were close on the second pronunciation, but the middle syllable is actually dropped in every part of the US I've heard the word "caramel" spoken. From my experience, hearing "caramel" as "car-mull" is the unequivocal norm, and multiple people have told me that they have never heard anyone say "caramel" with its full three syllables. I'm curious as to which region of North America you're from that the "car-mull" pronunciation is uncommon enough for you not to know it. Really, really curious. Guessing northeast US/southeast Canada, but that's where I'm from and people there say "car-mull." I would love to know where "care-uh-mell" is the norm.

Also i don't think we got confirmation of what happens to the person soul when the swap occur, i do think it still shares the body but the one in control is one of the followers, therefore killing it would only kill the original soul of the body, Halkeburg could use this to "fake" his own death and after dealing with Benjamin he would kill Tserriednich and return to his original body "resurrecting" which would only make him more "god-like" to his followers
I do think it proves he's become loyal to Halk. What I don't know is why a loyal Halk follower is spilling the beans about the body swap to Kaiser, if that's indeed what he's doing (the conversation gets cut off).

About the beacon being nasubi, what if the beacon is the nen script room with the 14 caskets and the mysterious thing in the middle? I assume nasubi saying he’s part of the war now means that he must die and film the 14th coffin once there is one prince left.

After all people would know if he did, even if he alters the future people will remember the original timeline so they will remember him reading it even if in the new timeline he didn't let them in. Theta remembered after all.
Well, if he didn't read it in the original timeline but did read it in the altered future, it's possible. But ten seconds still isn't enough time, it doesn't fit his personality to care about the letter, and there would be no interesting payoff since they wanted him to read it anyway.

Great analysis of Halkenburg's hypothesis testing; you're the only TH-camr with this level of understanding of the current plot + able to use that knowledge to reach a new conclusion I did not consider. I was originally of the opinion that Sumidori woke up back in his own body, but Halkenburg going ahead with the current plan only makes sense with your scenario. It was indeed Shikaku, so you can't just spam arrows, commit Sudoku, and get your follower back... makes sense.
Too bad the downside of this level of quality is that the audience who'd value this type of content is pretty niche due to the barriers to entry to even understand what you're talking about... so getting to insane numbers will be a challenge, I think. But you never know.
One thing I need to know though is your standing on the arrow's capabilities. Do you support Balsamico's interpretation and think it cannot be used to take over other princes, or do you subscribe to the indirect attack cop-out? To me, Togashi was speaking through Balsamico in that scene. The character had the same information as the reader, if not more, and his assumption is reasonable. It's not the usual character being wrong because of imperfect information, so it would make no sense for Togashi to deceive the reader in that way. To me, it's obviously the author clarifying a tricky and very important interaction through a character. I discard any analysis that entertains the possibility of Halkenburg using the ability on other princes.
In short, I agree and think Balsamilco was laying down rules we should expect to be followed going forward.
Also, on a narrative meta-gaming level: if Halk were gonna nail a prince with an arrow for a huge shake-up to the story, it's now or never, and I don't see how it could be now (how could Balsalkenburg set it up?).
I agree, I think the Bow and Arrow are tied enough to the beast that Halkenburg can't directly attack princes with it
I wonder if King Nasubi and all Royals of Kakkin are actually trapped in this ceremony since the founding of Kakkin and is hoping to be freed, hence why they invited the hunters who knows a lot about Nen.
In a way, they're all extensions of the ancestor-king's will, which is a bit sad. But Nasubi at least is fine with it: we see in his head in 362 and he's excited for a new War that'll give Kakin a strong new king.
I really hope some of the next chapters bring back the Ryodan. I really think they, and also Kurapika, will die near the end of the arc, so the next arc will be about Leorio. Not so sure about Hisoka dying tho

True enough! But the letter scheme tells us what Kurapika's basic idea is: get a new alliance going with a powerful elder prince. That being the case, some way of bargaining with Tserri could always come up later.

Only Tenftory was actually taking the class. Sakata and Hashito are there as guard and weren't participating. So he has one extremely inexperienced Nen user that Kurapika just gave him, yeah - he's far less useful than most of the other princes at the moment when it comes to a showdown.

I don't understand the plan for possessing Balsamilco, if the Grimel Arrow's consciousness switch is permanent and Halkenburg cannot return to his body, hence fulfilling Wario's prediction that "Halkenburg is going to die" but what would actually happen is that Balsamilco dies with Halkenburg's body... What is his plan now?
Can he activate Grimel again as Balsamilco, gaining its aura fromthe loyalty of his original subordinates or Balsa's?
Can his Nen Beast be transferred to Balsa's body? And if so, wouldn't that just expose Balsa as actually Halkenburg to anyone other than the princes?
If he can't swap bodies again, how is he supposed to reclaim the throne when his new vessel doesn't have royal blood, or in the case the Nen Beast doesn't linger to him, show he's actually Halkenburg?

There's so many issues with the idea that Grimel's bodyswap is permanent that the theory has to be incorrect, otherwise I can't fathom how Halk's planning to win the Succession War otherwise
I mean, he's explicitly planning to stay in Balsamilco's body. That's why he calls Unma and explains that he won't be around to see her at the banquets anymore. He's not calling her to say "FYI, I'm in this Balsamilco guy's body for like eight more hours and then everything's back to normal, love you Mom!"
Halkenburg wanted to end the war and establish a democracy more so than just becoming king. He hopefully just wants to kill the dangerous princes and make a deal with the younger ones
@@ExtraOtter Can we prove Halk called Unma after firing the arrow? Doesn't add up for me that Halk called Unma as Balsa knowing she'll probably wouldn't recognize his voice. It has more sense he's calling her before firing Grimel, and in search for assistance of her mom. Given she's the most influential queen, so it could make sense she was the reason that Halk got followers to gain Grimel's aura from.

But Halk was clearly informing her of some kind of success because she's happy and proud of him; she's not saying "Well I hope your plan works, good luck!" So I'm fairly confident. Halk could easily prove his identity to her despite the Balsamilco voice.
