Soon,,, Soon.... I am thinking it would be a good test to see if I feel confident enough in its penetration to make the new crane for the second floor materials lift...
If you welding wire is making birds nests, try tightening up the spool tension a bit. We had the same problem after guys would change the spool and leave it too loose and then it would make the biggest birds nest inside. A for mill scale, 40 years ago when being taught how to weld, no one ever told me to remove the mill scale.
Yeh, I was going to suggest the same thing about the spool. I’ve run my own tests and generally, removing the scale does result in better penetration and stronger welds. But if you can’t, try running a bit hotter.
The problem is the tension is tight as it can get and still the bouncing of the trailer gets to it.... Only way I have found is to put a piece of tape over the top of the spool when traveling..
Steve, are you sure that plate is 3/16”? It looks like 1/4”. I’m always surprised that with all the welding protection you have (as you should, I’m the same way) that you don’t use a glove on your gun hand. The UV from welding is much worse than what we get from the sun and is much more dangerous.
The big plates are 3/16 the little ones are 1/4.... The light from the gun is shielded by the nozzle on the gun.... Very, very little ever get to my left hand... Now when I am using flux core wire I take off the nozzle and that is a different story.... Gloves on both then...
3/16 for the plates and gussets? Thought it was 3/8-even worse for thickness mismatch. BTW-I was in Houston last week and thought about you driving out to the Bash. Hope it’s a good trip!
@@10swatkins Oh, sure. I was just checking my eyes. That plate looked a lot thicker than 3/16 in the video. If it was 3/16, it didn't seem like it would be that much of a welding mismatch with the square tubing.
Not there now to look. It's old though.. I use these on tables with full slots in the table.. Gino Development 02-0667 TruePower Drill Press Locking Clamp, 9" a.co/d/0bDdg1v0
Don is not the only one waiting for the Everlast to be put to the test !

I always where both gloves. I'm not much of a fan of skin cancer.
Great Job! Awesomeness Extreme.
After 30 days the worst should be over. Good on Don!
I'm not a welder by any standard, but my welds hold. Work that heat in.
Always !

It does help with crap in the welds.... It's not a big problem with stick and hot mig as it is with tig welding...
Your're sure mean to Don Hi Don
Have to be.... He stopped smoking about 33 days ago and it's the only way to keep him interested in living... Make him mad enough ;)
@@10swatkins Ouch - all the best to both of you. I hope Don is not too shabby or grumpy - I mean, more than usual 🤫
Do the photoeyes take the picture of the person being crushed in the gate? Lol

@@10swatkins ok, but I guarantee your hand isn’t shielded.. I can see it being lit up.
I have a similar injury to a finger from a drill press and that was when I was at school
Seems like the simplest tools always get ya...
Olá amigo Steve bom trabalho como sempre!!!
Saúde e cada vez mais sucesso pro amigo!!!
Oi amigo, obrigado por assistir e responder, tenha um bom dia!
I love that bandsaw. Beautiful job on the gate.
Keep your lust to yourself :)
@@10swatkins Will do.
Nice welding and fabrication. Just learned another trick. Hi from Nacogdoches.
Thanks for watching!

You did see what the function of these was for at the end Just using up stuff I had as it is not critical . :)

Hi Steve, can we get a maker name for that useful drill press clamp please? i'd rather not hack up a G-clamp and braze a foot on it. Thank you
