    ALERT: Be very careful after you register your works. After registration your works are made 'PUBLIC' which includes your name, title of works, even your address and telephone number. Anyone in the world can see it. A shady person claiming to be from a shady company can call you and state that they are a 'middle man' between the creator and the US Copyright office. They will ask you for hundreds of dollars to 'finish' registering your works! Hang up and if you can report. Contact the Copyright office directly to ask questions. The criminals usually will try to call newly registered creators before the Copyright Office send the official certification. Just a heads up. Peace.

      So if I register it with BMI, the copyright hasn't been registered? There isn't, as far as I know, any loss in the stake of the copyright when I registered with them. They collected a flat fee.

      You can claim ownership of your lyrics whether or not you had a hand in creating the music (producer/composer.) Go to Copyright.gov. Whether or not you're the only writer and/or composer there's a way to give credit to others just like you would with a PRO (BMI ASCAP etc.) If you actually plan to take it further business wise, make sure proper credit is given after percentages are discussed and agreed upon (in the form of a written agreement.)

    • @franklinmark4671

      You have to have your tangible work done, that is, lyrics or beat or sound recording that is original in place before you commence copyright. You cannot give what you don't have, because at the Copyright Office and at the point of registration, you'd need to present your original work that is to be copyrighted.

    Aight my guy, so I make and sell beats to artists via BeatStars. The contract states that as the producer, I’m entitled to 50% of the royalties and publishing unless other arrangements are made. If I’m selling that same beat to several different artists, would that essentially be me creating a derivative or is that just me replicating my own work?

    • @mastermusicmarketing
      @mastermusicmarketing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, you shouldn't be selling that beat to multiple artists. They can lease it, which doesn't always create a new publishing scenario. In most cases, leased beats are banned from commercial usage, so the publishing wouldn't matter.

    • @Mr_Cru2
      @Mr_Cru2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      KDMR Music yeah that’s what I meant, I’m leasing it to several different artists.
