Yo Jonas, I have a little suggestion, I leggit love this 'series' of yours and I love watching you play the games other people made, So, What if, for exmaple, you put all the games you didn't play in a list or file of sorts and reviewed like, 3-5 of them (every now and then), until you completed the list. Kind of like, filler video content, if you get what I mean. That would be pretty dope. And before you ask, yes, I have already wishlisted Will You Snail!
@@paulolukeny5736 Problem with that suggestion is that games would come in faster than I can play them. If I play through the list from top to bottom I would play outdated games most of the time where the feedback isn't really useful for the devs anymore. Just recorded a new video for the series. I'll try to keep them coming, no worries. :)
Wow thank you for putting Ghost Grab 3000 up first, Jonas! Super useful feedback and I'm definitely going to act on all of it! Keep the great videos coming. 👻
Hey! I really like the game but I think you should use only one art style, because you used for your menü a pixel style, for the game a drawed style and in the backround a 3d animation.
I think you are doing an awesome job in bringing attention to some indie game devellopers and giving some really good feedback. I will definetly submit my game once i finish a playtest build. Keep up the good work man!!!
Thanks so much for playing Gracefall! :D Yeah haha I’ve been having people from the gamedev community help me by playtesting and I’ve made some big fixes regarding the overall stability of the flight and implemented changes to the camera system. You’re right it is Cinemachine hehe. I think my big problem is that the tutorial just isn’t doing an adequate job of explaining the mechanic. About 50% of people do the rapid clicking you were doing, which generates no lift and therefore causes those backflips that were happening. Thank you so much for your honest feedback and I’ll work hard on the control scheme! It means a lot to me that you think it has promise. :)
i have seen your game in the discord a few times now and since i don't have a gaming laptop i never tried it but now that i have seen it in this video i can see what it is about. i think the concept is really awesome and graphically very appealing as well. what you just said about the rapid clicking is a problem i see a lot lot lot in these kinds of games/situations. immediately at least 3 different games come to my mind where new players rapid click some sort of wing / similar and then get frustrated because they don't gain height or what they are trying to do doesn't work. I think this should be a big part of your tutorial, that teaches the player what happens when you rapid click (= bad) and what happens when you time your jumps. because if the player understands the concept that rapid clicking is not the intended way to maneuver they will immediately know that they can improve on maneuvering instead of you the game developer needing to improve the maneuvering, which feels frustrating to a player even if it isn't the case.
Ninjario Picmin thank you for your thoughtful reply! Yeah I can’t blame the player for not knowing something they were never taught hehe :P I think the tutorial and the camera are the two big areas I need to improve in right now. Also your kind words about the concept and graphics really mean a lot to me :’)
In AI-Buster, another recommendation I would make -- after you die, the enemy tanks continue shooting at you. If you've ever played portal, after you get killed by a turret, your body still lies there on the floor and you continue to see for a few seconds before you respawn, but as soon as you die, all of the turrets instantly stop tracking you and go back to scanning the room and that kind of acts as a bit more of a slap in the face.
Thank you so much! lot of precious feedback! it's sad that music and sound bugged and didn't play for most of the game, I should have noticed that bug long ago(it has something to do with player prefs). and again thank you! btw love playing islanders to relax after long development day
btw that laser sound staying after level changed is because we use wwise for all the music and sound. and it's pain in the ass :D but still useful for interactive music
Hey Jonas, I really enjoy these videos because they are long and I can watch them while I'm making games and I think it's nice of you to review other people's games, who knows I might just submit mine one day
For the They'll Find You game, maybe it would be interesting if the monsters had stuff like limited running stamina, pouncing with telegraphing, momentum etc, varied mechanics that require you to learn different ways to move to dodge them?
Funny you should mention pouncing. My favorite enemy in the game does jump at you (not much in the way of a warning though, you just gotta dodge quickly as soon as they do.). And if you're close enough to a wall & they miss, they'll jump off for a second try.
I like this! I feel like any game dev listening (especially newbies like me!) can also learn a thing or two from the feedback you're giving these games.
Jonas:You should make it so you can’t leave a room until you kill all the enemies. Also Jonas: Killing all the enemies in the room is a little tedious.
Grace Fall's music is a remix of the Will You Snail theme! 46:50 EDIT: I'm dumb, Jonas clearly added it in post. Nice chill remix of the theme though, I like it.
Awesome work, Jonas! These are probably my favorite videos of yours, and that's saying something because I really like all of your videos! (You're probably my favorite gamedev TH-camr ❤️) I love that you do these; you have such great, really knowledgeable and apt advice for each game. Keep it up!
I like this series and your honesty. That said, I genuinely feel that you missed the point on the game "neural bots". You were judging it based on assumptions you had made about the game that the game didn't really direct you to making. The character movement and level design were clearly focused on precision based gameplay with a rarely used style of movement. The only design element that hinted at speed is timing the levels, however that is ideal in a precision challenge as well as you want to be the fastest while being precise. I feel like the way you approached reviewing that particular game would be like someone coming into your game "will you snail?" And making the comment that the A.I. shouldn't predict your movement. It feels like the review is either ignoring the core mechanics or that it is a way of expressing distaste for the core mechanic.
True. Good design is only about meeting your design goals. I don't know any of the developers design goals which means I can only make assumptions about their goals. In doing so I can miss the point sometimes.
Thank you for the response! As an aside, that game reminded me of the old arcade game "lunar lander", don't know if you've seen/remember that one. I have actually hoped to see some modern takes on that kind of movement without feeling like they are copying that game so it was pretty exciting to have seen this one for me.
@@douglasparkinson4123 yeah there wasn't really much to suggest that intention, something like getting over it/qwop it's very obvious that maneuvering is supposed to be somewhat awkward

You are very good at this (as many people have said many times before). I know you want to continue working on your own game, but I'd make sure to reserve plenty of time each week to make 1 or 2 episodes, playing a few games.
PolyCube2 could be amazing with some very subtly presented narrative. So not at all like an RPG narrative, but something to further stoke the deep mood that it seems to present, which I think is mainly created by the music.
Wow 99 submissions! I was hoping to get some feedback, but I totally got drowned out haha. I definitely learned a valuable lesson about titling your email appropriately! Great video, there really was a lot of great games here and I still learned a lot.
Maybe you could have something like a sub-reddit where people vote on games based on screenshots, videos etc, and you pick from the hot list to make the video?
Cool idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a bit afraid that would result in me only playing the good looking games. I don't really want the quality of the game to be a big criteria for selecting them as the whole purpose is to give feedback. :)
Limited submission window before each video. Otherwise I'll end up playing outdated games or get drowned in "by the way, I updated my game" e-mails. :D
Awesome video and great feedback! Sad my game Highlight did'nt make it. I totally understand though. I'll just send it again the next time you're doing this! ;)
A game called "Area 49 and 1/2" with extremely incompetent robots trying to contain green aliens that are very terrible at escaping. You choose to either help the aliens escape or help the robots contain them by solving puzzles. When you win, no matter what side you chose to be on, the scientists come back, (they are surrounded by shadows so you can't see them clearly) they complain that you shouldn't have done anything because they were testing their AI against the aliens to see who was smarter. If you replay the game it takes about 10 minutes for each level to "solve" itself, but who wins is kind of random, and whichever side wins more times is declared the winner at the end, but only if you sit back and don't touch any of the puzzles. So when you get the "Aliens Win!" ending or the "Robots Win!" ending there is an animation of all the Aliens safely behind bars, or all the Aliens escaping a hole in the wall and disappearing into the night, then after the credits of the game you see a very small spaceship leave into the sky and get smaller. You can watch it all happen, but if you want to see who wins, you can't click any of the puzzles. You can go through any door already unlocked or open, but you can't pick any lock or use any key. You can use the security cameras to see the progress but only if the door is open, which happens at about the 6 minute to 7 minute mark when the security bot runs out of the room, presumably to tell someone what is happening on the monitors, and the radio isn't working. It should be a wonky game, fully 3D but very silly looking. Someone please steal my idea, this needs to be a game.
I'm also developing a game which you create and complete the setup of a PCB board which is base on real life electronics tools and gadgets. It teaches the gamer How a diode or other components work, what kind of voltage is needed for the board to be stable and usable... Including writing codes for micro controller or processor... I thought of these idea with regards to Flight/Driving Simulator, Car Mechanic puzzle making of how to fix a car...
Thank you for your feedback on Phos! Got a lot of feedback. Especially in communicating to the player what things do. A lot of problems would be solved with that. Thanks!

@@MajorSmurf it is very difficult for someone that has never seen the code of a project to figure out what exactly is going on. it takes a lot of time to get in there and seeing the problems in a given code can take a very long time. i don't think it will be very helpful for either side
@@NinjarioPicmin I understand that it can be difficulty to read others codes. And I would like to add one of the best things about coding is how universal it is. Language barriers in coding is rare . Can't wait to watch the video :D, love those! One day I will be in that kind of video hehe :P
I hope so. :)
Phodex Games oh hi lol
@@michaelsantamaria8306 Hi :D
PolyCube2 could be amazing with some very subtly presented narrative. So not at all like an RPG narrative, but something to further stoke the deep mood that it seems to present, which I think is mainly created by the music.
Cool video, how did you change your voice like some sort of a robot for "Will You Snail"?
Audacity its free
If you are still wondering exactly how, his video "Don't put 600 voice lines in your indie game" goes through it

the controls for lofi room could be A-W-D-Space or A-S-D-Space, makes it somewhat better to land those beats.
Still a nice game tho!
These videos are really awesome and helpful, thanks for doing them Jonas :)
You're welcome. Thanks a lot for watching them. :)

Wow 99 submissions!
I was hoping to get some feedback, but I totally got drowned out haha. I definitely learned a valuable lesson about titling your email appropriately!
Great video, there really was a lot of great games here and I still learned a lot.
Awesome. Thanks a lot for your submission. I wish I could play all but there's just not enough time... :D
bro you are underrated
really apreciatu you
I would like to try this at some point, how can you be sure that no one is trying to give you a virus through those emails?
Didnt even check the robot shop on the first game to see if there is helps for you
Can we submit at any time or is there a limited submission window before each video? Also do you intend to upload every 1,5 months?
Limited submission window before each video.
Otherwise I'll end up playing outdated games or get drowned in "by the way, I updated my game" e-mails. :D
Awesome video and great feedback! Sad my game Highlight did'nt make it. I totally understand though. I'll just send it again the next time you're doing this! ;)
Thanks. Yes, do that. The chance that I'll pick it up when seeing it the second or third time around only increases.
Phos. Just wow! Good start
The box one is amazing.
"y and x are far apart on german keyboards"
y and x:
literally next to each other
ä
In the US, y and x keys are pretty far apart (y is key 6 row 3, x is key 2 row 5)
That Phos game looks nice
I'm also developing a game which you create and complete the setup of a PCB board which is base on real life electronics tools and gadgets. It teaches the gamer How a diode or other components work, what kind of voltage is needed for the board to be stable and usable... Including writing codes for micro controller or processor... I thought of these idea with regards to Flight/Driving Simulator, Car Mechanic puzzle making of how to fix a car...
A computer within a computer .. i love it :D
Thank you for your feedback on Phos! Got a lot of feedback. Especially in communicating to the player what things do. A lot of problems would be solved with that. Thanks!
I could recommend the good old method of showing the resources travel on the wires
it's an old trope but it's a good trope
Bro when you were playing they’ll find you my phone was on minimum brightness and it was so dark I legit thought it was a first person game
I read the title as if my father was scolding me about my school grades, truly terrifying
I love that format. How can i send a game for You to play?
The last game is kind of like the Brakey’s unity tutorial.
Haha, true. A game doesn't need to be complicated. :P

bro how can i know when i should send u my game
Found this channel recently love the content so please make more.
Quick question have you considered doing code reviews as I've been working on a game and I'm more interested in improved the code functionality rather than the balance, looks etc.
Thank you very much. I'm not sure if I'm the correct person to do code reviews. I don't really feel qualified. :D
@@JonasTyroller I have a feeling that you're most likely more qualified than me :3
@@MajorSmurf it is very difficult for someone that has never seen the code of a project to figure out what exactly is going on. it takes a lot of time to get in there and seeing the problems in a given code can take a very long time. i don't think it will be very helpful for either side
@@NinjarioPicmin I understand that it can be difficulty to read others codes. However it can be helpful to have someone just to go "Hey I think it would easier to do it this way" and when coding I make sure to add notes for what each part is doing so that its easy for someone to see what certain parts do as well as for me when I'm searching through.
And I would like to add one of the best things about coding is how universal it is. Language barriers in coding is rare . And when solo deving it is important to get feedback on your code whether its just on a forum somewhere. As if not some people can develop bad habitats for coding which I want to avoid,
@@MajorSmurf of course i am not saying anything against having someone look over your code, i just don't think it would make for a great video format, especially comparing how much time it would take versus the payout compared to epsiodes like these
