Great video Rick. I was about to say put some duck tape to hold it if it pops out. Risky with only 1 piece and seems it didn’t stick so well. Nice catch!!! I expect you’ll be using more duck tape for the glass on the other side 😀
Yes indeed. More duct tape would have been smart combined with a moving blanket below it in the ground. I think I was expecting to still have to man handle it a bit like I did the rear glass. Oh well…could have been disastrous but it’s out now and in one piece. Thanks!
Rick is the entire back wall marine plywood? Have you thought of making a removable cover/port hole in the back wall to make it easier to do maintenance like the timing belt. The Ferrari 360 has this.
I like that you opened with “I vacuumed out the Esprit so I wouldn’t stick my hand in any broken glass.” And then the next shot is of your heavily bandaged fingers. 😂. Hope they are ok! Great job on the restoration always love to follow along with your videos!
@@toddgraham6402 Yeah, 8 days earlier while on my tractor I put my hand where I shouldn’t have and crushed the tips of two of my fingers and lost a part of one of them. So I’m trying to be smarter…hence the vacuum and the eye protection in this video. Live and learn or pay the price.
@@chandrab I have yet to fully examine it but it appears from its base to about two thirds of the way up its plywood with a layer of glass over it. The last third which is where the rear window is set is a thinner unglassed piece which needs attention. Decent idea on the access panel if it doesn’t comprise the structural integrity. Something to consider.

Maybe I missed something but there is plywood in the car from the factory?
Yes. The rear bulkhead just below where I removed the back window out of is plywood with a layer of fiberglass over it.
@@Rick_D thanks for the confirmation but I have to say I am gobsmacked. I will never look at a lotus esprit the same again.
I was able to do the other side in less than 10 minutes
