Mereside Blackpool: Met with Hostility

- I take a look at the Mereside area of Blackpool, including the new development of houses at Troutbeck Crescent. A seemingly 'local' resident wan't too happy about me filming, even though he had no proof that I was doing so, and such, was rather hostile. I was just there to film the houses, but some numpty thought I was filming him, so I put the encounter on the video, albeit with disguised voices. If the numpty had not been hostile, I would have not included the encounter on the video.

Hi Stephen. you must be careful walking around these dark places at night. take care. It was great meeting you again in Blackpool with the Blackpool lads. I am now back in Berlin had a great time in Blackpool. Maybe I will see you again next year. Wish you all the best and I,ll see you again in the next one. Mildred. xxx
Stay safe Stephen there’s some right horrible buggers out there .. Thanks for all you do
Great video congratulations on 66k subscribers.
Stay safe around the estates though.
Great video Stephen. You are always discreet when others are near by, the guy may have been up to something x
Great vid i enjoyed looking around .be careful on those dark roads
Absolutely another great video thank you for all your hard work stay safe Stephen I love your site x
Thanks Olga.
Great video Stephen.Nice houses, with an angry beer monster for good measure👍🍺
Hi Stephen. Your videos bring back lots of memories. I lived in Blackpool between 1967 and 1972. My parents had a boarding house in Palatine Rd. Look at it now!! I went to Revoe school. Have one of your walks taken you past there?
Premium bonds.. oh bloody hell that takes me back
Many of Days I visited that Toby Pub Resturant had some great meals, the Windmill Sails I remember driving into Blackpool and seeing them as you pass through it really is a shame they have gone I do agree with you it was a sign statement Your are entering Blackpool. Over the Years Visiting Blackpool how it has changed over the years, so many new homes as you go around that estate I must say I have had a quick drive through just briefly. Does look okay but to dark around that part.
thanks Stephen for another great video
Glad you enjoyed it Julie
Hello Stephen, hope you're keeping well. You're rubbing salt into the wound by showing this area, especially the Toby we use quite a lot. It's a long time until March when we're next visiting!
Take care walking around Stephen buts thanks for a great video.
Great video❤👍lots of great memories
Hi Stephen mate another great video stay safe
Really thankful this kind of thing is rare to happen, so sorry it had to happen to you though Stephen.
You have done another great positive video. Brings back some good memories when I used to cycle in to Blackpool from these roads. And going to Marton Mere.
Finally got to watch your video's be safe out there buddy
Very interesting video Steve, it would be nice to show those nice houses in the day time or summer's evening.
It is sad that the windmill is being left to go into decline. There is someone who is raising money to save the windmill. I have seen their posts on Facebook but unfortunately I can't remember who they are, but I wish them every success in their fundraising. The National Trust should be helping to look after the little buildings as well as the Victorian Pleasure piers and not just the Stately homes.
The windmill on Lytham Green is a lovely little museum. They got some amazing film of St Anne's trams going to Blackpool in the very early part of the 20th century.
Stay safe while out filming especially at night Steve xxx
NO way the wind mill has lost its sails 😮..it is iconic that windmill, we spot the tower AND the windmill from the motorway on our drive into Blackpool ❤ hope they get sorted soon.
Marten Mere was where my headmistress climbed or leaned 🤔 over a fence to get me a flamingo feather I was begging for on our school trip there from Rochdale’s Spotland primary school in the late 70’s 🌈✝️🕊️😇😘🥰😍 x x x
Stephen it was sure kicking off in Blackpool 👍😁, some people have a problem. Stay safe 👍😁🎅🎄
Thanks Stephen loved the history of that area I go to B&Q on that road and Wickes. Great looking around at night. 🎉🎉
Best of luck with the channel as always 👍👍👍
Thanks Michael 👍
Hi Stephen. Those new houses look nice. Stay safe at night xx
Just watched the video Stephen , must say the area brings back memories for me from 50 years ago , yes , my uncle had a static caravan on Martin meer site , it's still got the caravan site the big pub on the main road and of course the wind mill 👍 please Blackpool Council fix the sails on the wind Mill , love the new estate Stephen think they done a great job with that , thanks for the video Stephen , brilliant trip down memory lane 👍
Great memories 👋🏻😀..we used to go to Glasson Dock to a Caravan break as children, great times, Aunty had a Hotel on the front, Morecombe fun fair …👋🏻😘🙏🏻
Great video always wanted to have a nosey around there. Ignore the pond-life - he obviously has something to hide- stay safe Steven!
Thanks pal.
Hi Stephen you’re absolutely amazing I love your work I really do ignore all the negativity please just carry on with it thank you very much for everything you do x
Great video Stephen, look after yourself when out stay safe 👍
Don’t worry about that lad being grumpy. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to your channel. Keep up the great work 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks
Above the millercare there are two spacious flats. Fifteen years ago we went and viewed one. It was okay and we were on housing benefit at the time which they accepted.
Hope they've got double glazing because the road is busy.
Good stuff Stephen really enjoyed your walk about some nice houses. ❤
Thanks Mary 👍
Your welcome Stephen x
When we come to blackpool we usually go in the big tesco and see those nice houses , looks nice there x
Evening Stephen thanks for another interesting video, Toby Carvery is well worth a visit. Traditional roast dinner, very reasonably priced. The little windmill, looked great , particularly as it was dark.
Toby is a lovely looking building too.
The mean streets of Mereside. Our intrepid war reporter Stephen, bravely venturing into the hood, armed only with a gimbal and a bus pass. Stay safe, Stephen.
Ps Stephen, the carvery that is, was once the eagle and child pub👍
@@DavidRoss-hd3rv The Eagle and Child is down the road opposite, in Weeton, near the barracks. It’s now just called the Eagle.
Thanks for the vidio well done on 66k subs dont lission to the haters stay safe out take care
Thanks Gail 👍
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool welcome
Hi Stephen, I lived 5 minutes down Preston new road at peel corner and me and my mate Kevin used to go carol singing on our push bikes on the estate. Also , another of my friends who lived on peel hill near the motorway exit ended up owning the shop at which u started ure walk and it was called the cabin. We all used to play under the motorway roundabout before they replaced the old railway with the motorway. Peel corner was a great place to grow up. My family owned Progress Garage on peel corner, my auntie lived in the large house opposite peel road, my nan n grandad lived in number2 peel road( small row of White House’s) and we lived just past the traffic lights on Preston new road at peel corner, called The Oaks. Great times🙌👍…. Great video again, well done Stephen. Dave , Australia. 🙋♂️👏👏👏👏👏🙌
@@DavidRoss-hd3rv Thanks David.
Great Video Steve i Enjoyed It 😊

@@georgesmellie8717 hi George, good to hear from you, oh dear can't do without our phones these days. You'll have to write to father Christmas 😆, all ok here Ds not bad now thank you, been a walk round our old estate delivering cards, picked up our wooden tree decs from the council office/ parish hall, there's a tree up at the cemetery and you write a message and name of loved ones on the decs, such a lovely idea, they did it last year and the tree looked amazing. Very cold and damp here today and going dark now but nice to walk wrapped up. Just sorting stuff before Mia comes out of school, she's not too well either cold and cough, it's going around I'm afraid. Well take good care George, spk soon bye for now 😊 x
Keep up the good work mate,👍
Be careful out at night , some areas are not so good at night 😊
earliest memories of going to blackpool apart from spotting the tower and not seeing a pylon lol was seeing the windmill
Yes looks very pleasant Stephen
Hi my friend love you're video's thank's for sharing stay safe my friend.
Great video, Stephen. My son's called Stephen, too. All the best for Christmas 🌲
Thanks, you too!
MERRY CHRISTMAS ⛄🎁🎉
There's always one take care Stephen
He,s either got something to hide, folk to avoid or doesnt like going on TH-cam without getting repeat fees!
Aye he should name and shame him
@@gavinreid8937 👍
maybe a little Todger.
He's probably casing the area for his next burgling spree. 🤣🤣
I can understand somone not wanting to appear on camera, but they could have been more polite and less agressive about it.
"I would appreciate it if you didn't include me in any of your videos, or photos, please."
That would be more like it 👍
Hi Stephen I know Mereside quite well my mother-in -law used to live on Branstree Road and we used to run a beaver scouts colony in that church was called St Monica’s back then great vlog thanks for sharing .
Thanks Charles. I remember when Bowness Avenue used to come out onto Clifton Road where the big gasometers were. Round the back of my grandparents was a bit of spare land, where the new type houses with the solar panels are now.
@ Yeah so much has changed in Blackpool even in just the 13 years of living here.
Interesting vid Stephen. I know you are quite happy and confident to venture out at night but I would recommend that you have someone with you. I know you will not take any unnecessary risks etc but best be safe than sorry. I used to have no problem at all going solo at night but there is no way I will venture out on my own anymore. Not here at least with the state this country is in and I am not knocking any area, good or bad, my main concern is the potential for loss/damage of equipment or even if you get stuck in the middle of somewhere with no cell phone coverage (nearly happened to me a while back). Anyhow, keep up the great work. 😀
Thanks Rik. I'm thinking of maybe disguising myself somehow.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Hmmm maybe the invisible man and cam hahahahahaha 😀
Yep there's some strange folk about Stephen, congratulations on your 66k
Thanks Susan.
Does anyone remember the hyper market around here in the 80s? Do you know when that was finally demolished, or what it became. Can’t remember what it was called.
I remember the Hypermarket very well. It was Blackpool's first proper supermarket, and it also had the first auto sliding doors that I can remember. It has now morphed into the Asda store, but the original building still exists.
@ amazing, thank you. Will probably go and have a look for old times sake next time in in Blackpool
Be very careful wherever you go, be aware and move out of that area calm but relatively fast. There are people everywhere that just want trouble, they see you with a phone or camera, they will try and steal it.
Great video as usual, thank you. I'm wondering if you have or know where to find videos of when they refurbished the sea front at Blackpool, I've been googling and got nowhere which is a shame as it'd be really interesting to see how they built it with the tide coming in and out, huge thanks in advance if you can help my curiousity and it'll help me sleep lol
I’ve got an old photograph of a digger on the beach at Starr Gate when they first started on the new sea wall.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool it's crazy that there's no videos out there :/
We were at that carvery in June and must say it was very nice 👍
grange park next? used to live there some time ago, parts of it are quite rough (or were at least) but the many great memories of it will stay :))
Great vlog
we stay at the mere at Haven camp site every year for 4 days to catch the lights and always drive in past the windmill
Toby Carvery will forever be the Clifton Arms. Shame Mereside lost their only pub.
Hi Steve, It was called Smithy garage.. I remember it well.. 👍
Evening Stephen, really good video, think I've only ever passed through that area. Might be better to drive around some of these areas, only takes one idiot. Thanks for that mate, cheers.
Imagine assuming I was filming, I was, but there’s no way he could tell. He was just being a numpty.
Martin mere ive been there great place to go as a kid i always loved that place but i were in liverpools christmas market earlier its alot bigger than last years i managed to get afew videos and i didnt get told off this time lol i was supprised. I had a huge load of kids smirking at me there was a snow slide i couldnt resist but slide down it lol i really need to act my age 🤣but yeh im a huge fan of toby carvery the roast dinners are the best youd really enjoy a meal there and the christmas dinners are great. Those new houses look brilliant i like the style of them they look abit like the houses in wellington new zeealand quite fancy you can hear a pin drop there lol. But crikey that guy wanting the camera away from him you cant please some people mabe he was doing something dodgy or he was a beer monster without a sence of humor oh well your worth more than him and your a nicer friendlier person than him ❤️✋😊👍
Don't go to that Toby carvery, my wife and I went there and ended up with food poisoning, never again will we frequent any Toby carvery again
Remind me what the Toby Carvery pub used to be called. I use to go there to service the fruit machines many moons ago.
I believe Lytham Windmill sails are maintained by BAE. Something to do with showing up on Warton RADAR, and needing to know their orientation, after any repair. 🤷🏼♂️
I doubt Little Marton Windmill will get repaired as quickly or as well, as Lytham’s does. 😬
I'll see if I can find out anything about it.
I remember them Houses being built.
Omg 1:30 childhood memory unlocked, for some reason my mum n dad called it Ernie n wed always try n spot that n Blackpool tower and we knew we were there
I was meant to say ERNIE. The Electronic Random Number Generator.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool yes, i thought it stood for something!!!
Hi Steve great video But be very wary 😮out at night Maybe afternoon would be better in daylight would be better 😊
Thanks Bryan
Give me Poulton anytime....
Love to see how constructed they are as what is on the outside does not, now, generally show the cheapness of the building on the inside, sad to say. That fella, the usual, today
Do you see changes at borders of Blackpool, i e grass verges and trees when you cross from Blackpool to Lytham St Annes or Blackpool to Cleveleys?
It is an interesting thing to look at. Some grass verges, however, are maintained by Highways, or Lancashire County Council.
Ahhh the suburbs. But be careful Steve!
Hi Stephen form grangemouth hope you are well
so in the intro was that a beer monster or was someone stoned? or a bit of both?
Hope you can see this Stephen, thanks for the video. Sorry you ran into Mr. Grumpy pants always one isn't there. Be careful on your travels Stephen.😊
Thanks Jan
Just a good video 😊
Great video Stephen, that new estate near the windmill is impressive. Thanks for your considerable efforts. Stay safe.
Some people are so touchy
Hi Stephen. Another nice video mate! It does make you wonder why that guy was wondering about and told you not to film him even tho you wasn’t. 🤔
Probably up to no good.
A classic Stephen weldone
Are they the houses near the big Tesco Stephen.
Yes.
Great video stephen, perhaps that guy was up to no good not wanting you filming him
Hi Stephen I'm a great fan of Toby carvery go there all the time highly recommend
Somebody just said on here they got food poisoning from there.
it's usually people who have something to hide, that object to been filmed in a public place, more so on golf courses as they are probably claiming disability allowances etc.
Gaz Yorkshire coast.
Yes.
Give spice heads that shop name he wants a double scooter lol😊
It's funny how people don't want to be caught on camera yet there's more camera's on our streets watching us night and day. Take care out there.
That is true.
I felt anxious for you there Stephen. Other comments are right. Please don't put yourself at risk. Just be careful when going out at night 😱
@@christinabarrow5017 Thanks Christina 🙏
I didn't notice the clicking initially. Were you carrying a geiger counter? lol
I think my zip was causing a clicking sound. Same thing happened on my recent TVR video.
Ah! I had the same thing. Turns out my hoodie zip was hitting the phone in my pocket. It was driving me mad!
Not bad as carverys go, Stephen.
Ignore him take no notice you are awesome ❤
The balcony ones look nice it does look quiet, hope that incident doesn't put you off.
It won’t, thanks Diane.
Evening a bit of your childhood history then those houses look really nice oh he wasn’t a nice chap till the next one 😊
I served my time as bricklayer with the same firm that established those houses on that site TYSON CONSTRUCTION
I say don't worry about the cider rider out giving abuse!! There's lots all over the town with different addictions like 😂😂😂😂
Thanks. Tyson ended up finishing the Foxhall houses, but these Mereside ones look much better to me, plus there is more green space around here than Foxhall.
Research and come through the little area which is Normoss village Normoss rd -right on the edge of staining. End of mythop rd Newton arms Normoss garage. Normoss shops. Shame it’s a dying area. Welcome fella
I skirted with Normoss when I did my Seniors Chippy review earlier this year.
Had a good meal in that Toby Carvery.
Hi stephen my late mum.told me my late great grandmother lived on Preston new road some nice houses there too there are some nasty folk out there your free to film in public
How 🤔 you getting on with the new camera Stephen
I’ve only used the Action camera once so far, but I will be out with it again soon.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool great 👍
