I know it's bit late. But lead acid batteries need to be topped up every 6 to 8 weeks to maintain their health. They can also read 12v on a multimeter, but not actually have any current, or very little current. So they might have enough current to get the boat out to the spot, but not enough current to get it back to the bank. LifePo4 batteries are the way forward, they can be left upto 6 months witout having to be topped up.
