It CAN. If the door closes in it's face and it's close enough it can become stuck waiting for the door to open. Otherwise, the reason it upvents is because if the player is not accessible the alien goes backstage.

yeah, me too. Thought I was dead. Though, I think how it worked was that it was trying to get find a way to get into the room because there were no vents and the doors were closed. So it knew where I was, it just didn't know how to get there. Once the path was opened, it dashed. I think it ignored me because I either wasn't in line of sight long enough or it was simply prioritizing the human it thought was in the room. Just like if there's two NPCs infront of the alien she will pick one of them and kill, them move to the next instead of switching back and forth between humans.
From what I learned TV Tropes, that this distinctive Xenomorph evidently has grown a sense of pride, and it is going after the player because it was felt slighted and angry of you still alive and surviving. I never thought that it really did grow human traits. But then again this isn’t the first time that we’ve had seen previous specific xenomorphs that have developed new traits that separate them from their more wild and vicious counterparts.
Space stations should never have such huge ass ventilation shafts or at the very least have in place metal bars to prevent causal access for a freaking xeno to roam around.

@@googleyoflolz9930 never, it lowers your health. You are crouching which I can tell you makes no difference at all to the aliens vision. You might as well be walking slow. If you play nightmare you will probably only crouch a couple of times in the whole game because if you do it more than you will get caught since the alien already knows you're nearby and the longer you take the more rooms it has already searched so its getting closer. Once you play through it once or twice, you'll get to know where its going to come from so its not as hard as you think. The working joes are more of a threat, although you're allowed 1 hit so you can make a mistake, however theres many more of them
@@googleyoflolz9930 I know the game isnt very clear on the problem with lockers on nightmare where you cant see your health. When the alien gets you in the locker it actually means you suffocated to death. There can be many times in the game where its better to kill yourself and respawn
I know exactly how you felt. I'm playing through this game again and this level is just as terrifying as when the game first came out. I can only play it for about 20-30 minutes at a time or i'll have a nervous breakdown.
Ngl when I started playing amd I saw the xenomorph for the first time I got myself to the save state, saved, then immediatly quit for the night because I was so nervous. I managed to get back on the next but damn, the fear never really goes away no matter how many times you play this game.
You can avoid playing eh musical door buttons ;) if you use a rewire panel to disable one door. There's one rewire panel in the room that also opens with the 1702 door code or the room room with a bunch of beds and lights out. Disable one door. There is also a free flare on the desk if not on NM mode.
@@googleyoflolz9930Did nightmare with a few deaths, two in the hive. My advice would be walk more, crouch less and sprint basically never. Next, flares are your best friend, don't use them too often. Never ever craft pipe bombs, molotovs are absolutely best used as land mines to cover you in a vent or when you know it's likely you'll need the cover to do something. Lastly save your ammo for the elite Joes above the hive. Those encounters absolutely suck without firepower. If you can sneak in a pipe bomb (provided you're maxed on molotovs) save it for that. Also pro tip for the showroom; skip the Joes and go to the next room with the rewire, active the fire and it'll take far fewer revolver rounds to the head to kill them. Save your shotty for those aforementioned elites
I just finished this level yesterday and scared the shit out of me. I had to access a door with password required and when the door opened, the xenomorph was behind it unexpectedly and killed me. And I play this game on my laptop with earphones.💀💀💀
When you are by such a door always take your wrench to it first. If the alien is there it will run for a vent so it can get behind you somewhere. But that's also a window of about 10s for you to SKEEDADDLE away as fast as Ripley can walk. If the door was in the 2nd part of Medical where you just watched Dr. Lindgard's video there's a trick to not having it behidn the door you use the keycard on. Set off the gas explosion right before going to the door. The alien is temporarily distracted by the sound and drops behind the fire so you have it out of line of sight for you to progress past the door. Then there are some tricks for the rest of the area.
It wasn't TOO bad once I got used to it but my vision was more limited than what I'm used to. Also, I was cursed at the time to kill any monitor I tried to use and ended up buying three monitors during the playthrough. I even ended up using an old TV at one point. The things I go through to beat this game...

Bro, your first and biggest mistake is running everywhere. The xeno can hear you running around clearly, that’s why it isn’t leaving you alone. This is compounded by the fact that it appears you are on nightmare mode, which makes it even worse.
