Get a shovel and a tow rope. Also you mentioned going into Las Vegas alot. If your windows are tinted, get a blanket, or tarp, the same color as your carpet. Keep your stuff covered with it. I lived there 30 years ago, and I'm pretty sure the "opportunists" haven't gotten any fewer since then. A small pick might come in handy as well.

I recently used a can of Holt's tyre repair that's been stored in many vehicles I've owned over 30 years, I really didn't expect it to work but it did. I used it on my motorcycle, that uses inner tubes, road the bike around the block to see if it would actually work, parked bike in the garage, got a new tube to fit a week later and the tyre were still inflated.

I have the identical shotgun shell case.
I also have two different dump pouches that I use to hold loose shot gun shells when my buddy and I go shoot 5 stand skeet. We just stared doing it thus spring, it is great fun and practice.
I have a 92 cherokee with a couple of bigger plastic square ammo crates with supplies. Including a single burner butane stove, hammock, tarp, freeze dried food and cook set.

You can still use quarters for vending machines too and you can find them everywhere. I keep my center console full of nickels, dimes, and quarters for quick snacks and drinks. I very rarely stop at one but it makes me uneasy when I dont have any change for one. At least enough for one bottle of water and a bag of pretzels or something.

I keep a lot too. I have a hockey bag full in my Jeep. I like the bungee cord organization so everything doesn't roll all over. Love the Olight!

For a jump starter that is multi-use please check out the Halo Bolt. I have one and have had it for many years. It is excellent!!! It has a bright flashlight, a 3 prong plug outlet, 2 USB ports in addition to the jumper cables feature. It is very small but packs a wallopp when you need it to. Just a thought :)

I have a center punch and seatbelt cutter in my door slot, that center punch will open any car window in a snap. My go-Box has bottle water, first aid kit, towels, stop blood quag, $40 in quarters in a bag, flashlight, spare batteries. Everything gets changed the 1st of the month.

People make think it's a bit much to Carry in your vehicle but there's one thing for sure, If they were to need anything there, they will be sorry they didn't have it. I carry water, motor oil lol jumper cables, a few tools, a jacket and a blanket in the winter. But I've wanted to make me a bag. I will after seeing this. Not nearly as much but enough that I might need. You never know what might happen. I'd definitely sleep in my car if I had to though. A bit safer. One thing I thought would be good is a Ziploc bag with dryer lint for starting fires especially when you don't have anything else such as twigs. I use to have a sun type screen protector for my windshield. I don't have it anymore.
Great video! I definitely need to work on this.

Check the foam on the nose piece on the n95 masks if they are old or in heat. I had some in FL and went to use them with the mandate and saw black flecks in the face area, 😳 then realized the foam was wearing off.

I’ve been making comprehensive “car kits” as gifts and school raffle items for years now.. I used to get a good bit of flak.. 🤪.. until lockdown happened.. and I HAD everything you couldn’t get anywhere..
    the vindication was priceless 🤣
.. a good kit is a fantastic gift for the people you love, my BF is constantly rooting around in his “Oh Shhh Bag” and brags on how much crap I gave him 😜 when he’s got a safety pin to fix someone’s ripped pants, only because he doesn’t know how to use the sewing kit..

Really good ideas, I have a small first aid kit it's a good idea to have more than just that. I drive down from WA on 97/395 to CA or 95 and other roads to NV I tend to throw in a lot of stuff I never use but always good to have it and not need it especially in winter. I have a small heater in case I have car issues which has come in handy a number of times and also a tire air compressor the kind you plugs in to cigarette lighter which is nice to have.

Yet another thing to consider: a cheap, small and foldable electric scooter with enough range to go home (or go to the nearest town and come back with extra gears); should works very well if the emergency is only yours (eg, broken car).

Just a quick thought regarding the quarters/coins for payphone: Do you actually remember the number(s)?
A friend of mine a while ago found himself in such rough situation, but at the payphone he realised he does not remember the number.

I used to carry quarters, but now I carry a power pack, which is about the same size and a little lighter. I'd still carry quarters, but I have not seen a payphone in years. I am told they have them at airports, but I don't use airports.

I have similar items in my car so I’m pleased to see we agree 😎. What I’d like to see is a video or even a list of items in order of essentials. I’ve tried to decide if I could only grab one bag, what would that be? I’m a 67 year old single female so I’m not going to be hiking with a 75# pack. I have camping stuff, cooking stuff, packs, sleeping mats and bags, food, water, first aid etc. but it’s scattered over about 4 packs. I want it all 😳. I do drive a Subaru which has never left me stranded. Any suggestions??

    • @sandym6760
      @sandym6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a 63y/o single female, and I won't be able to hike with a 75# pack, either.
You will have to find what works best for you, obviously, but I had the same 'I need it ALL' mindset, and had to force myself to focus. I ended up with a type of a tiered system. I sat down with pen and paper, and made a list of everything that I could think of that MIGHT happen, then ranked it into what was most LIKELY to happen. For example, Martial Law COULD be declared because SjustHTF, but vehicle trouble / flat tires would be the most likely, when I'm in my vehicle. By the way, I had to go through the same process with my other bags -- I wouldn't have to worry about vehicle problems when it comes to my BOB, for example.
Next, I prioritized what I needed for the different scenarios, and decided what was needed to get me through each one safely. For example: food, water and first aid are a given no matter WHAT situation I'm in. Shelter, if staying in the vehicle, is covered -- but what about if I have to leave it? Tools / items specific to my vehicle could be in a separate bag, simply because I wouldn't be taking them with me should I have to leave my vehicle. Fix-A-Flat or a jumper box are invaluable in my vehicle, but pretty much useless if I have to leave it. Since I may have to leave in a hurry (say the vehicle catches fire) I do NOT want to be trying to separate things out at that time, hence the multiple bags. Since I half live in my vehicle (drive time to and from work, etc), The food and drink issue is easily taken care of by a couple of bags with handles that permanently ride behind my passenger seat.
Since I had a long period of time that I was watching some of my grandkids all night so one of my daughters-in-law could work the graveyard shift, I got in the habit of having a bag with a couple changes of work / leisure clothes, hygiene items, and a small (VERY basic) first aid kit in it. I continue to keep that in my vehicle, because it's come in handy even since.
Now, on to what I would REMOVE from my vehicle, should I have to leave. For that, my list switched to what I would need to have to get home. For THAT one I was assuming the worst case scenario, because if I'm leaving my vehicle chances are that it IS something major. For that one, I went with a modified 10 C's from Dave Canterbury. I am assuming that I will want to be found and rescued, but I ALSO had to plan on the possibility that SjustDIDHTF, and I do NOT want to be seen or found. From the town I work in to where I live, it would take several days to walk -- especially if I'm having to remain out of sight. This means my Get Home Bag is, of necessity, quite different than any other bag in my vehicle. It's the one that took the most planning to keep it more lightweight, yet not leave out a critical component. That's where the 10 C's came in handy, to keep me focused. My bag is 'grey man', because if I have to abandon my vehicle when at work, I do NOT want to be standing out in the crowd. Believe me, I live far enough away from where I work, you'd better believe that I'll take my vehicle as far as possible -- but for THIS bag I have to assume the worst. I also have an EDC that fits in an Altoids tin, that I'm never without. Since it's in an Altoids tin, it doesn't raise eyebrows at work -- people just assume I never want to be without my Curiously Strong Mints. Since it's packed in a way that it doesn't rattle, that's not an issue, either.
When deciding what to include in the kits, I had to be brutally honest with myself. Was it something I would actually USE, and just how important WAS it to the kit? Was there something else that could do the work of more than one item, and if so would it take up less space and be lighter in weight? Did I actually know HOW to make it work, to do what I needed it to do? If not, then it identified a skill set that I needed to acquire. Having all the gear and tools and coolest gadgets doesn't mean a thing if you don't know how to use them.
One last thing, I have redundancies all over the place. For example, I have a decent F/A kit handy in my vehicle, my very basic one in my 'overnight' bag, and a MUCH.more comprehensive one in my GHB. I even have a couple of steri-strips and some moleskin in my EDC, along with duct tape that can be used as a bandage in an emergency and a tiny tube of super glue that can seal up a more major wound. I have lighters in every area, even though I don't smoke. In the preparedness world, One is None and Two is One.
Hope this helps you out, some.
