I'm now keeping a mostly daily journal of my progress here at Farm For All. You can read it at permies.com/p/1243213 I've designed a calculator to help you determine how much to grow in order to produce 100% of your own food. If you ever tire of them ,I bought a Gallagher Solar Energizer, a 3 dollar T shaped push in ground rod, a 20 dollar roll of highly visable electric polywire and some 2 dollar push in plastic electric fence stakes. I use one strand about 2 feet above the ground. Its worked for ten years and they are still scared of it. The polywire is white and they wont get 20 feet from it. I circle my garden with it each growing season and it takes ten to twenty minutes. My garden is a quarter acre and Ive got about 14 local deer hanging around every day. To stop the males scraping antlers on baby trees each late Fall I just wrap a loose metal wire or some aluminum foil around the trunk about 2 feet up. Metal hurts the nerves in their itchy velvet and they dont come back to that stem. I love deer and am a permaculture vegan so I wanted to share this hard learned lesson.
That's great advice about the trees. I didn't know that about nerves in the velvet! And yeah. Have thought about polywire, but we've managed to work into workable equilibrium. Herd's much smaller now and stays in the outer zones mostly, and I spray nettle tea on everything, which they hate the smell of. They got a little greedy with the brassicas I was planning to eat this winter, but they left more than I will probably realistically use. Did stare down the buck as he was walking into my garden to eat my kale one morning. He locked eyes with me for a bit, then turned tail, ran, and I haven't seen him or had a problem with him since. 😅

Thank you for identifying that "humans are the problem"!
It is so important to observe nature and work with it!

What an interesting and useful way to look at it. Thanks!
Which isn't to say that they aren't really annoying at times. 🤣 But if you can't change it, you can try to see the positives.

Yes save seeds . We have deer here and love them . Peace
Great words my friend! :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them!
interesting!
When I don’t protect fruit trees the deer eat them and they die. Same with raspberries and strawberries and others. This might work for lettuce. ☀️🌱
Deer aren’t the enemy.. they are food!
There are deer, and there are Black tail deer, they ate my potatoes!!!
Did sombody out there Forget to tell them that deer don't eat potatoes?
