I kinda remember that in the original Mafia 2 there was this point in the game where you'd have to accumulate some kind of wealth before you could proceed to story missions. Loved every minute of that grind. Being a low level criminal grinding to move up in the ranks still appeasl to me most. Hate it when this one breakthrough mission grant you infinite resources like in GTA 4 and in lesser ways 5.
Also; I'd love any game set in the 50s. A true open sandbox in that era would rule.

Closest thing to that would be Mafia: Definitive Edition. Not exactly 1920’s (game is set from 1927 to 1933 I think), but the detail there is amazing.
