    As a cast member who worked in merchandise, we run a magnet over our boards. I agree though that the magnet test doesn’t always work.

    That’s good to be aware of!

    The magnet trick can help for some pins if you know the set shouldnt be magnetic, but some new pins are actually magnetic. I remember trading for some of the Bambi hidden mickey pins and they are highly magnetic, despite having traded for them when they were first released as cast lanyard pins, and I've found a few on cards I bought at Disney that are slightly magnetic. It's a tricky one.

    My SirWillow pin has a smooth back and no information stamp; is it a fake?

      Probably. ;-)

    Just as a possible suggestion, for future videos, when you're talking about web sites such as Pin and Pop, it might be a good idea to put the name and/or web address on the screen. For instance, at first I wasn't sure if you were saying "Pin and Pop" or "Pin 'n Pop."

      It's linked in the description. But yes, you're right inshould have put it on screen as well, and said I would add a link. Mistakes made when pressed for time

      SDC does still sell pins (as least as of last year) but they really don't do pin trading much anymore. They also don't have issues with fake pins being made like Disney does. I have shown some of the SDC pins I've bought in some of the SDC videos.

    As a cast member, if you received a pin you ABSOLUTELY loved, are you able to take it off and pocket it so as to not be 'forced' to trade it?

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. They are not your pins. They are company pins on the lanyard. Keeping one can get you in trouble and even fired.

    I was at sdc like a week ago we went on the train and the person in front if us gave one of the robbers a beef stick, and he ate it but the funny part is I think that messed them up because they kept keep messing up their lines and I'm pretty sure it wasn't on purpose because the conductor said a line again after the robber said smth about the beef sick and then the robber was like you already said that.
    Honestly I think it was funnier that they messed up because I've already seen it twice before so I already know what its supposed to be like lol

    On someone else channel bought Disney pins at a thrift store and he said that he didn't know if they were real. I told him to go to the Sir Willow channel that you did some videos on telling what to look for on real and fake pins.

    Great video and thank you for the info! Just a heads up for future ones the camera focuses on you not the pins so it's hard to see what you're talking about. Try putting your hand behind the pin and block your face so it focuses on the pin.

      Thanks. Inwoulf have fixed it with more photos but just ran out of time so it was a bit rushed.

    Ok, another bad move by Jake. We had a Disney trip the month they started selling these pins. I forget how much they were, but they weren't cheap, I think $9.95 or maybe $5.99 I don't know but I thought it was high for a pin. I figured they were just another money grabbing gimmick that would never take hold. I could have bought all first run pins. I assume they are probably worth a heck of a lot more now. But, I still have my sticker from the Laugh Factory when I was "That Guy!"

    Why doesn't Disney forbid their employees from having fakes on their lanterns?

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A number of reasons.
      Cast members aren't trained to tell the difference.
      Sometimes it can be hard, especially if you have a few people that want to trade.
      Many CMs don't care.
      And do you want to be the one tell a child no, they can't trade because their pin is a fake? That's not going to go over well. Especially when the guests may not know it either.

    • @JackDecker63
      @JackDecker63 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SirWillow I see your points. Here my counter-arguments.
      1) Add training for it. I know Disney does NOT care about making money, but..... ;-) I mean I am pretty sure Disney isn't giving the pins away for free.
      2) When they are in doubt, have them go to their boss or someone in the know (stores that sell them) and find out.
      3) I would advocate just the opposite. Have cast members WANT to trade for the fakes and monetarily reward them for turning them in and thus taking them out of circulation. Even have fun with it by having a contest for the ugliest fakes they traded for with photos of the "best" worst fakes.

    95% of lanyard pins are fakes at Disney ~ some fakes don't even have common tell tale signs, so it's tricky ~
