    Impressive effort with this car, I was so relieved to see the brass connectors worked. Congrats on repair and thanks for making the videos!

      Yes those worked really well, clamping across such a wide surface area. 20 amps should be no problem through those tabs. We have done many cars now with the same symptoms as my car and all are working great after the repair. The cells seem to be still available, so that is a plus. Thanks for watching!

    Great to see the car reassembled and on the road. Is there an issue with the sensor for the tires? I had to have my sensor changed. I agree with your opinion on the car. I get so many compliments on my Fisker. Compared to cars in the high end market, the Karma looks great. Thank you so much for sharing your work. I learned a lot from them. Stay safe!

    Excellent video series on the battery pack! Very detailed and well explained. The wood battery box support with 4x4 drop setup was ingenious and looks to have worked perfectly. That battery is seriously heavy.
    Ever had any issues with the CIU module? If you ever do, would appreciate if you could video the process to remove and inspect. Thats my next project to work.
    Where did you find a Service Manual? Been looking for one for several years now.
    Keep up the great tutorials!

      @afternoongarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had water intrusion in the CIU area. I guess I simply got the wires wet and it needed to be programmed. I bought the Movimento Puma 2 and was able to get the USB to work to reflash the CIU to enable the NAV and radio to work again. What I really need to do is pull the dash out and get a better view on what is happening there. This might happen in the near future as I plan on keeping the car for a while. The link to the service manual I have is in the description. Good luck... and it is Millertime indeed.

    Hi there, great video! So the Fisker is a a dream car, I am currently building my first ev small conversion with a basic warp 9 motor and Chevy volt battery. When the Fisker gets a bit cheaper, I am going to try to copy your project. What’s the total range you ended up getting? Looks like 40 mi?? Many thanks and great job!!

    • @afternoongarage
      @afternoongarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this comment. Looks like you have an interesting project there. The Fisker Karma is almost 3 tons wet with a wheelbase of a truck. This makes the ride very nice, more like a heavy touring car. Mileage per charge not so good. While Tesla was focusing on weight savings, the crew at Fisker were busy adding technology and getting the batteries manufactured correctly. Something they were never able to fix until the company went bankrupt. When fully charged the range says "50 miles". However, real world says you get about 35-37 with a fully functional battery on a warm day. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching!

    Hello this is OJacks I have a Fisker, Code just popped up POA7B (battery energy control module) I don’t know what that mean . Today I will go out and unplug the main battery cable for one minute and plug it back in to see if the code come back after I clear it

    • @afternoongarage
      @afternoongarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a request for a general battery issue. This code is actually only responsible for setting the check engine light. The actual code causing the issue is something else that can be read by the Fisker service laptop. That was the code I got that told me that I had battery problems. I originally scanned it with a very inexpensive scanner and that is the only code it read. It wasn't until I plugged the Snap-on scanner that I was able to see many other codes that were set. Looks like there are people out there that can translate exactly what these Fisker specific codes mean. Unfortunately, the Fisker mechanics out there are only into making money and have no interest in helping people out free of charge. That is what prompted me to make a video where I fix the car myself. If a bad module exists, you will start having range issues where the battery will not completely discharge from 50-0 miles, instead it will discharge all the sudden with 10-20 miles left on the charge. My car used to set P0A7B every time I got down to 20-30 miles or so, and then discharge completely at 15 miles.

      Some Mercedes have a small battery for auxiliary . It would be good thing if they had the solar panel maintain an auxiliary battery .

    • @afternoongarage
      @afternoongarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I think its great during the summer, I can walk by my car and smell the interior because the fans are running when in full sun. I understand the Mercedes does this as well. There are some Fisker owners that don't like the panel on the roof and seek to remove it. While it doesn't really do anything to charge the HV cells, I like the idea of having it keep the 12V battery charged and also run the blower.

    • @afternoongarage
      @afternoongarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As you can see in this last video of the series, the light stayed off the entire drive after it reached 0 miles. I have driven a few complete charges/discharges and it never came back on. I am actually a little surprised because the guy that sold me the car said that P0A7B codes are normal and I would need to reset them frequently. This was after the car was in the shop for $22K in motor and RDM work. The Fisker mechanic should have known that those codes aren't normal. Or he did, and I was sold a broken car. I will never know. But what I do know is that those codes aren't normal if the battery is healthy.

      Thank you for the kind words. This series with the battery repair has ruffled a few feathers for sure. I don't think the 'CSPs' like having their gravy interrupted with someone repairing the pack and showing the world how to do it. Insane that Fisker repair shops routinely charge $15-20K for a 'new' pack, swap out a module and give it back to you as 'new'. These cars are going to start showing more and more failures and I hope I reach as many folks as I can as least to understand what is happening and what the parts look like. Thank you for watching!

    • @afternoongarage

      I did all this work a little over a year ago and the car is a great runner, no service lights. I come from a military background and worked on unmanned drones. Battery capacity is very important in these packs. I used the same technique in checking individual cells. Really, I knew that module 6 was defective from a measurement. Remember, these parallel sets of three cells are all in series. One set of three will make the entire pack not function as the chain is broken. I had planned to charge the battery completely, drive the car until it was discharged and then put it on the lift for service. The cells inside module 6 were so bad that they looked like an open circuit when discharged and capacity was almost zero. I had to use the ICE to drive the car on the lift. I really didn't see much deviation at all in the modules during test. I guess you could just find the low voltage, probe the module and repair that set. I have a good stock of AMP-20 cells if you need them.

      The problem is that all the electronic equipment is connected via a bus and everything is serialized. So if you needed to replace a major component you would need a programmer to make it work. I was very happy I was able to fix this on the cheap. I still have loads of AMP-20 cells!

      The purpose of this video series is to instruct others and to show there isn't anything too complicated in the battery pack. My options were to ship the car to the east coast, change the entire battery pack and ship the car back. This would have easily cost $25K and I would have a running car. After spending $60K on this car, I was not prepared to spend any more, so I decided to fix it myself. If your car shows any 'check engine' lights that point to the battery, or you are experiencing range issues, it is a good bet you will need to get some battery work done.

      When I did a 'hard reset' on the car when I was having battery problems, I noticed that the parking brake would calibrate after reconnection. It should calibrate itself, just pull/push the button and it will do its thing. I noticed that the car needed to be on a flat and level surface for this to work correctly. In fact, one time I had to push the car back/forward while calibrating the parking brake.

I also had a problem where I got water in the cowl area and the CIU got wet. I bought the 'Puma' programmer and was able to reprogram through the USB port.
