I got choked up at the part "well, what happened Dad, is that we...." Thank you for sharing your experience! My Dad passed away when I was just two years old, so I don't even remember him. I'm mid-50s now. But I inherited his collecting gene, so I kinda know him, right? He was into US and international stamps. When my Mom saw me collecting bottle caps, rocks, pens, and stickers when I was like 6 or 7, she showed me my Dad's Scott albums and the rest is history. Over the years I've collected coins, currency, and vintage comic books, but it all started with stamps. It was cool trying to complete my Dad's efforts. But I understand now that all of my collecting has been me trying to make and continue that connection with my Dad. And I am so grateful for all my hobbies for that. Anyway, I enjoy seeing folks go through their collections, especially when they have a deep connection to it. Again, thank you.

That video involved a few "takes" until my wife got one where I wasn't crying. Selling that collection was like saying a final goodbye. I totally understand what you are saying about connecting to your father through his collection. We moved a lot as a military family, and my father's stamp collection was always with us!

Wonderful collection, Wes. I believe sorting through your dad's collection must have brought you some solace. You have honored him by organizing his lovely collection. It must have been difficult to sell Earl’s collection. However, many stamp collectors can now appreciate and enjoy the stamps that brought Earl much joy and pleasure. I believe Earl is smiling down from heaven when he sees the many happy faces stamp collectors feel when they add his collection to theirs.

ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE COLLECTION. I HOPE THAT THEY OFFERED A VERY GOOD PRICE. You should have kept a part of it to remember him by. It's such a joy to collect things that gives you knowledge and at the same time pleasure. The only thing is that stamp collectors in the COVID epidemic that passed away left their collections to their children or some close relative.

I love stamps, I have lots of boxes of stamps and I think part of the fun is organizing them. They teach me a lot about history, geography, currency, inflation, countries, art, and culture. It's a very expensive hobby that takes up as much time as you let it. I have a few stamps albums I made of the US but I would like to make other albums for other countries.

I often get box lots of material like this and is fun to think of all the collectors that have enjoyed these stamps over the years.

Interesting… the problem is where does one start with such a large collection…you had gotten it organized, but one would never know if a particular stamp was in the collection. It would take another 8 years to generate an index or catalog for the entire collection…amazing collection but overwhelming also and I suspect that you were spot on when you said there was a switch from the collecting of stamps to stamps just collecting because it simply became overwhelming.

I believe those Heco pages are dealer stock sheets. Heco made the stock sheets that dealers used, but did not sell the stamps. Please correct me if I’m wrong about this.

@@Emperor-Wild-Man Often what happens to coin collections too. I have to say I would not know where to begin on valuing such a stamp collection. Can you value it? How do you value the emotional aspect? I really don't know.

@@CaldonianDude ..........From the vid, I can tell that Mr. Earl's has an extensive "face different" world collection, via the various Albums, whose pages (sample pages of Ger and Russia) were near fully filled. At the time when Mr. Earl was active, he must have subscribed to annual album supplements, and annual stamp subscriptions. It got to a point when he did not kept up with new album supplements, and the stamps subscriptions continued, so the new stamp purchases were not put on album pages, and remain intact as the day he purchased them, thus stored away in boxes. Unfortunately in terms of market value of such a collection (face different world collections in albums, and boxes of unsorted stamps) could be sold to stamp dealers by the pound. I typical higher value stamp collection would have stamps identified, wheras any unidentifed stamp would deem a common stamp (but by no means that a rare stamp may still be found among the common unidentifed stamps)..
