Just had a snow storm last night, drove through 2 feet of snow to get out of my driveway with my 2015 XV. Neighbours were watching, I bet they were hoping that I get stuck. Sure it's not a fast car, but I needed a regular car that's AWD and jacked up to get me through our long snowy winters up North.

@@Saxie81 I've never driven a Jeep Compass, but I will say I blow past them, Wranglers, 4runners, and almost everything on my way to work in snow storms. I won't sit here and tell you a Crosstrek will beat any of those in a serious offroad trail, but I 100% believe it's better on snow covered roads and hard packed dirt roads.

We bought the 19 Crosstrek for my wife last year, and it’s fantastic! You’re spot on with your review and I agree with you about the excessive number of buttons, not my thing either. After driving it for close to a year the only fault I found was the stock all-season tires aren’t enough for my hilly, snowy area. They’re perfect with most conditions but an AT upgrade will happen before Fall this year. I’m 6’4 and have no problems with seating or leg room... however, my wife wants the Forester now. So I’ll gladly keep the Crosstrek and she’ll get the Forester. We do no off-road travel but this vehicle can go anywhere during any weather.

If you don't have a family or large dog I would go with a Crosstrek. It's so much different from the rest of Subarus line up. It looks sporty and has the more interesting colors. I hope Subie figures out they can attractive younger buyers and they're designs don't have to be so safe all the time. I do wish the Crosstrek has 170-180 HP. That would really be better. I like the new Forester it's an evolution of the design which again is just conservative.

I switched from the 2017Forester to 2019 Crosstrek to give me more room in a small garage. I love how both drive but what I HATE about the Crosstrek is that they do not have a power lift gate for the trunk, even on their most expensive model. And even though I saw hundreds of complaints from short people that they could not reach the top of the trunk to close it manually, Subaru still failed to add it as an option on their Crosstrek 2020 model. I use a rope on the trunk, but that always gets caught in the lock and, I am ready to find a new car with a lift gate even though I'll be taking a serious loss on my Crosstrek. If you're short - do not buy a Crosstrek unless you want to be angry every time you need to open and close the trunk.

Thanks for mentioning the seat length. We have the opposite problem, being short people. And most reviewers never consider how things are for short people, only tall people. In some brands the seat bottom is too long and uncomfortable if you have shorter legs. Anyway, that was helpful that you talked about it because now I know the seat will be ok for us. Ideally, in the future, maybe cars could have adjustable seat bottoms.

2:51 I think if you realize this bumper cover is also used on the Sport trim. On the Sport trim, the fog lights are vertical and take up more space in that direction. So I think the answer is this is a shared area for all trim levels and they needed to design that into it. I'd buy the Forester over the Trek for sure.

Eye sight helps alot especially when you're driving long and your falling asleep car corrects you and warns you. The adapted cruise control is awesome and save you form accident. But sadly got rear ended hard in a stop sign and it did its job save my life. Now wounded if I should get the Forester and would I get the same mpg.

Traded in a 2016 Crosstrek for a 2019 Crosstrek. Originally thought about a Forester but my 5 foot 90 lb wife couldn't get comfortable when test driving it, When I took the 2019 Crosstrek in for service , they gave me a Forester as a loaner.Handling was totally different. I felt I was all over the road in the Forester compared to my Crosstrek.

We test drove a 2019 RAV4 last week and the first thing my 5'3" 110lb wife said was "these seats are too short". The RAV4 interior (especially doors) felt like cheap plastic. Subaru's were nicer and the "under powered" comment is overblown after driving the Crosstrek and Outback. I like the ride of the Outback and Crosstrek better than the RAV4 but just saw a dark grey Forester Sport (with orange highlights) and it was very stylish - sort of Range-Roverish. We will try one this weekend. FYI - The Outback seems best for me (towing capacity, ride, height and length for our long kayak, storage with seats up, price after current incentives) but is a wagon and the redesigned 2020 with global platform is only 6 months away.

Thanks for the video. Am cross shopping either the 2019 CX5, forester or xv. But in the Phil., all 3 vehicles have 2.0 liter engines. I like the XV and CX5 for looks, the forester for space, seats, convenience, safety features, and the CX5 for handling and the 6-speed auto trans., premium-ness. I really value safety, and when I read about the eyesight system was impressed by the Subie. Having AWD is not essential but may come in handy. Of the xv or forester, do they need premium gas? It may come down to dealer service. Mazda is throwing in first 60,000 kms service and parts, liquids free during PMS, among other things. Have owned a Crv, rav4, Rogue before but never a Subie. Am hoping to hear from Subie owners on their ownership experience.

Regular gas. Loving my 18 Crosstrek 18000 miles so far. I owned a Honda Civic si before this, won driver of the year in my class two years in a row with it racing autocross with my club. I have raced autocross for almost 30 years, and switching to this car has not disappointed me, certainly not wrx power, but it has all the power I need. When you get hard enough on the gas, the cvt gives you just the right ratio, to get the revs where you want them. Half throttle brings you 3500 rpm shifts, 3/4 gets you 4500 rpm, 95% to full throttle gets you 6000 rpm shifts.

You never appreciate having Symetrical AWD untill you actually get in a Subaru car. The Forester would be my choise in the future. It was designed for offroad purposes. The clearance and the AWD just five you so much confidence driving. CVT may sound disgusting but i gotta give credits to Subaru. Subaru did a lot of research before they started making the CVT ( Belts, Fluids etc.) If you read the owners manual for proper usage of the transmission you wont have problems with it.
The crosstrek seems a bit small to me.
      Now for the final part.
When you buy a Subaru you dont just buy a vehicle, you buy a key to a whole family. The Subie family. I can't express the feeling of being in a Subaru meet. I have a 1st gen foz and i regularly go on small offroad trips with the local Subie group. Ive made so much new friends.
Hope this concludes it for you!

Joe, I need to mention something a lot of people are not aware of. The passenger seat in the Forester does not accommodate people of small stature. Anyone small of frame sitting in the passenger seat will find their feet will not touch the floor, making extended rides extremely uncomfortable, as there is no way to lift the weight of the lower legs off the knee joints. There is no adjustment or option from Subaru that will change the condition. It's not like the Japanese people are a large framed race, so this leaves us puzzled.
The seating position in the XV passenger seat is fine. We own a 2013 XV Limited and have loved it, but my wife wants a bigger boot and more room for hauling stuff. She thought she wanted a new Forester Limited. We went in intending to make a purchase right then and there. That all ended when we switched drivers on the test drive and she sat in the passenger seat. She looked for the lever that would lower the seat bottom, as is present for the driver's seat, but there isn't one. Quite the blunder from Subaru. Ergonomics in cars is important, because we spend so much time in them. The front passenger is not a second class citizen when he or she may be the one paying over $30k for the ride.
There is quite the jump in cost for an Outback Limited, so we are researching seating in other vehicles similar to the Forester. The AWD Honda CR-V is accommodating to front passengers of small stature and the mpg is almost the same or a little better, near top mpg performance. We plan to inspect the new AWD RAV4. What good is a vehicle if one can't sit in it comfortably?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I really appreciate you taking the time to point out to everyone this issue about the seats. That is really great of you to bring up.

Doug T I'm in the exact same boat as you. If you have a Costco membership (or know anyone who does), you can get a discounted price and don't have to deal with the haggling and B.S. that dealers put you through. Costco partners up with certain dealers, and they have to honor the price that Costco sets for each vehicle. I'm hoping to get out to the dealer this week to take one for test drive. Good luck.

I like the Crosstreck. I considered the Crosstrek before my Eclipse Cross. I love the look inside and out of the Crosstrek and they are reliable.
In the end went with Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL with Touring Package and SAWC because of the more features like heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, sliding reclining rear seats, dual pano roof, adjustable led headlights, power folding mirrors, rain sensing wipers, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio system, dual zone climate control, 360 display camera with steering wheel buttons and view change, heads up display, mitsubishi connect, reliability (have owned 5 Mitsubishis) and more.
Now the Subie gets better fuel econemy for sure but the Mitsu was far quicker and more peppy. Even though the horsepower is like the same between the two the Mitsu has a turbo and like 36 more ft lbs of torque and it makes a difference. Both CVTs were ery similar and are quite refined and fake step shift nicely. The Eclipse Cross was quieter while cruising and at highway speed but the Subie had a better in town ride over bumps than my Eclipse Cross.
One other thing that sealed the deal was my top trim loaded Eclipse Cross was close to $33,000.00 with options and accessories but with discounts and rebates I got it for under $26,000.00 which was close to $7,000.00 off! Could not beat it and the 10/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
Point is they are both neat and unique looking compact crossovers that comes down to content and personal styling choice. I think both look awesome and both are nice vehicles!
