Dad bought this piece from Union Oil in Anchorage in 1969, the truck had been equipped with a 1400 gallon cargo tank which Dad placed onto a brand new chassis in 1972. This 1949 chassis was then relegated to me when I was seven years old, it was by that time little more than junk. I subsequently fell in love with this little truck and leaned to drive on it around the family farm.
Over the years I would periodically lose interest in this truck and we even robbed the 270 engine of most of it's upper parts. The truck then sat dormant for 40 years, virtually forgotten, but I could just never bring myself to scrapping out the old piece.
After Dad left us in 2018 I made a solemn vow to myself that the truck would one day rise again in honor of his memory. The 270 GMC engine was, by then, more or less junk but I had a halfway decent Chevy 216 "Thrift master" laying around which was also built in 1949. After installing new piston rings into the 216 I dropped it into the GMC's engine well and away we went.
I am now retired at 60 and we mainly use the truck for my parting screen shots on TH-cam but we still like to climb into the old piece and take'er around the farm once or twice, every now and then. In this clip Regina is at the wheel and makes a superb truck driver.
    Thanks for watching, and Keep'em Rolling! #unionoil #1949 #oldtrucks #216chevy

I am sure you get the "Ah, you should restore it or give it a paint job" when its best day of service has past a long time ago. Try making it to Anchorage in one day without beating yourself to death on our great roads we pay for in taxes and yet never see a patch that lasts longer than the day it was done. Good times friend, and until we meet in a place we call heaven or other places some refure to.... heaven is where/what we make it and life is everyday. Living is what we do an so only die once if things go right.
