"That's all you want." Yep, they were everything I wanted in a rock band, and still are. I was freaking out watching this when it came on. I felt like the only person on the planet who had heard of them.
Same. I immediately bought tickets to see them in a bar in Sacramento, just telling my then-girlfriend and buddy, "No questions, we're going." They were incredible and after the show just came out to the bar to see their pals who went to the show. It was a crowd of maybe 250 -300 people and we were about 10 ft away from Brian and him doing weird cross-eyed faces while singing haha.
I'll always remember the first time I heard this song on the radio and having my head blown off by it - and I will always remember how exciting seeing this performance on Letterman was.
I found this song while going through an incredibly awful experience. Was playing guitar hero or something like it and this song came on. I was on guitar, playing it felt like an eternity but in a very, very comforting way. Something about it felt like it saved me. I will never forget it and have a love for this song ever since.
Silversun Pickups...literally picks up where Smashing Pumpkins left off. I have heard a lot of indie/alternative bands in my life time and this band rocks. Dont get me wrong Smashing Pumpkins is one of the best alt bands that have been but Silversun Pickups wakes us up to what we loved best about this music. I have been waiting for songs like Lazy Eye since (1995 - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness)
Was fortunate to have seen this band about a dozen times from 2005-2006 when they opened for seemingly every other band on the west coast when promoting their great Pikul EP. They always put on a good show.
One thing I always liked about Letterman was that he went for the unique too, or maybe not so well-known, rather than all mainstream stuff everyone else was doing.
Yeah, I don't know who was in charge of booking musical guests on the show, but they always had really good acts that you wouldn't see play any other talk shows, or at least not the other mainstream ones.
@EdithHead They were probably nervous, but the reason they played the song faster was mainly for airtime; it's a long song, they even had to cut some parts of it out to fit it in to their time slot.
As much as I love this song, I can't help tp to just observe, that it has a beautiful build up to a crazy explosion. Just like Nirvana teen spirit. or many of the other songs from the 90's like Hum Stars, Radiohead Creep, etc...
Stars is one of the heaviest songs to ever come out of the 90s. That drop is insane, especially after that dreamy intro. I really don't know how to describe that guitar tone, besides **dreamy**
Other examples from pre-90's: Tusk by Fleetwood Mac, In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins I really like this song style, thanks for the recommendations :D
They adapted it perfectly to television and the time they were allotted. Just the slightest modification of their tempo without losing any of the punch is the true mark of a good performer.
First time I knew about this band and listened to this song was in a festival called All points west in Jersey City, NJ back in 2009, I liked the band and this song right away.
Holeeeeeey fuck. Amps on 11 and playing like they are fuelled by Peruvian marching powder and this is their once in a lifetime shot at network. This is what indie is all about.
I've had the pleasure of seeing silversun play twice in a very small up close and personal performance, and meeting the band. A great group of musicians very down to earth people and great performers.
I love the comparison between SSP and SP because those were always my 2 favorite bands. I never really connected the dots until y'all pointed it out for me.
I grew up with Nikki in the neighborhood and went to the same grammar school though she was much younger than I. I didn't even know she was in SSPU until my sister called about an hour before their performance aired on Letterman and said, “are you going to watch Nilki and her band perform?” Needless to say watched and was, well, blown away. Awesome band. 😃
That's what it looks like when you make it onto Letterman and, play your heart out. Bravo.
"That's all you want." Yep, they were everything I wanted in a rock band, and still are. I was freaking out watching this when it came on. I felt like the only person on the planet who had heard of them.
Im with you 😅

Un mix di Sonic youth e my Bloody Valentine. Però questo pezzo ha il suo perché
Damn they play so tight. Kept that tempo going from start to finish. Really impressive performance.
the drummer is too fast
David Letterman had some iconic musical peformances
90’s and early 00’s had some killer bands play on late night shows. Not what they have today
Agree, the sound quality is world class
So grateful for the internet that was able to see this.. might be my favourite song!
Love this song

Did you find your head?
@@spencerludman3915 look how we have changed in 8 years since he made that comment. Help the future man. Starts with you.
Letterman usually had the best bands

It’s the Smashing Pumpkins best song since Ava Adore!
So funny, my 21 yr old daughter was shocked when I told her this wasn’t Smashing Pumpkins.
Such a different voice tho
I'm not even a huge SSP fan, but this is IMO one of the greatest live TV performances ever. really remarkable.
be a huge fan... :) they are awesome... I agree with your comment
This was great, no doubt. But for pure entertainment value it's tough to beat MMJ's One Big Holiday on Conan.
+GingerAleRain that is the greatest performance I've ever seen. That single performance deserved a Grammy.
GingerAleRain Alice in Chains performance of Again/We Die Young turns an awesome performance
Wow!!! Agreed. I've known the song for years and like it fine, but this performance is just on an entirely different plane from the studio version.
Very, very good performance.
The crowd seemed to love the energy rhey brought!
I dunno how many years it's been, but every once in a while I get back to this song and it feels so good man. Fucking awesome tune
I was about to post the same... I keep coming to see this video and like the first time, lots of energy
Oh hey, it's me, right now.
Do you still go back to it?
I mean as far as live rock performances go, you can't get much better then this
When I play drums, I also like to keep my crash cymbal 10ft in the air
look into a band called Battles, their drummer does it as well
pigs that’s a weird ass set up.
Its like a musical version of ape hanger motorcycle handle bars.
He has to have John Stainer of Battles/Helmet with that even
@@_c3a3m_88 how's it weird?
I love the drummer, he's always having so much fun.
Just drummer things.
What a unique and interesting voice
I like how they took the time after the break to recognize the greatness of SSP.
Loved seeing this when it aired, come back frequently to relive it
Same here.
They put it all out there. Bravo.
One of the best songs ever! I love the way he shreads the guitar! ❤😊
Saw them in Tulsa, they are the best, greeted their fans many of which were kids with love and fun.
Just went to their concert last night in Tulsa! Fun show!
Going in OKC
Can’t wait
One of the best live performances from any band. Long live the Silversunpickups!!!
Your right they played the heck out of that guitar and drums . ❤️ amazing band
Was fortunate to have seen this band about a dozen times from 2005-2006 when they opened for seemingly every other band on the west coast when promoting their great Pikul EP. They always put on a good show.
2006 I think thats when I first heard this song, It was super popular with me and my friends in middle school.
The show at The Egg last night was awesome! You guys cracked that egg!!
Still madly, deeply in love with this song.
Never. Gets. Old.
I think they are emulating their inner “Ned’s Atomic Dustbin”.
Anyone else hear some 1990s vibes? First time I heard it, my mind flew to 1993 in Seattle. It's still relevant. Glorious.
I absolutely agree. More than a few people have compared SSPU to Smashing Pumpkins btw.
I love seeing her dancing and playing her bass with such joy
I thought she looked pretty nervous, at least for the first half.
One thing I always liked about Letterman was that he went for the unique too, or maybe not so well-known, rather than all mainstream stuff everyone else was doing.
Dave had good taste

Yep
He and killborn both. Fuckin abandoned pools and Thursday.
You were refering to YOUNG college interns weren't you?
He always showed who he truly liked if he didnt like the act you could tell
@EdithHead They were probably nervous, but the reason they played the song faster was mainly for airtime; it's a long song, they even had to cut some parts of it out to fit it in to their time slot.
Nicholas Borriello late comment but I must say it was well executed

i remember seeing this on TV when it aired, i was 23 years old and it hit the spot
In their minds, they made it. They are at the TOP killing it.
They sound so much like the Pumpkins …. And I fuckin love it! 😎🤟🏼
He just loses his shit at the end, it's a nice contrast from the beginning when he looked like a nervous schoolboy.
He said fuck on live tv and they didn’t edit it LOL 😂😂😂
fuck, this song is sublime 6 ways to Sunday.
Most under rated band ever
That’s how you crush it on Letterman !!!
Just saw them in concert last night in Tulsa. Great show
YES!! big ups to Letterman for being able to recognize and commend greatness XD
This rendition is the best they have ever done.
They adapted it perfectly to television and the time they were allotted. Just the slightest modification of their tempo without losing any of the punch is the true mark of a good performer.
Not anymore, check out the Guitar Sessions perfomance to promote Better Nature.
If you guys havnt heard it yet, go listen to "All the go in Betweens" Its easily their best song IMO and one of the all time greatest songs.
that drummer tho
You mean Animal from the Muppets?
@@Jon.A.Scholt lmao ikr

Right?!!! Holy crap that was a cool performance.
I can watch this performance over and over.
Been such a great band for so long.... thank you guys!
cant believe its been 6 years already... feels like only yesterday... man I'm getting old
we all do !
One of the coolest things... ever
This is was on my Birthday when I was born (12 1 2006)
the way nicki jumps in at 3:01 never fails to give me chills

I saw them live, they were fucking awesome and very grateful to the audience. would see them again if possible
Dave always had great bands. I miss him.
Kick ass performance
Super!
reminds me so much of smashing pumpkins. his girly kinda voice female bass player and just the guitar riff is so pumpkins.
one of my favorite live performances
Dave was so nice to them. I bet that made their night, first time on TV and all, in the big city with Dave saying you did a great job..
Those days
As live performances goes, that was awesome 🔥
3:38 is the personification of rock and roll.
Letterman is the man and he gives him.props at the end of it
Still love & listening in 2020
thanks dave for still being hip, and enjoying this music.
Amazing..... Only amazing...
Just oh my god. What a performance!
That was fuking great
Dave always had cool bands on.

Flawless.

Damn Letterman has great taste
bravo.
This performance is fire. 🔥
Absolute perfection
The best live performance version of this song!
Its been that many years! They always reminded me of a junior Smashing Pumpkins.
love the extra tempo on the live version, really adds to the quality of the live experience!
Can't believe i hadnt heard them until earlier this month
Wow, what an incredible performance. Love this band.
That was good!!
Amazing song
Silversun Pickups will be my favorite band until the day I die.
Agreed. Them and city and colour, for me.
So, just checking in 10 years later.. still alive and still your favorite band?
@sivasandoz just checking to see if youz alright.
