    D-ABOD was delivered to Lufthansa on April 24, 1960 and was phased out from operations in the end of 1975. The aircraft was then used as a technical trainer for Lufthansa Technik trainees until 1999 and then sold to Hamburg Airport for a symbolic price of one Euro. Hamburg Airport used her for regular firefighting trainings and as a trainer for the German federal police, airport security staff and ground handling workers. Oscar Delta appeared in some movies as well for whose she was painted in several fictional airline liverys.
    On February 3, 2021 Hamburg Airport announced that the aircraft will be scrapped due to a lack of money for maintenance. Major aviation museums like Sinsheim or Speyer were contacted if they'd like to save the aircraft but both of them denied as the transportation costs were too high.
    Therefore - from June 8 to June 16 - the aircraft was scapped but quite a few parts were preserved and will be auctioned later to aviation enthusiasts.
    This airframe (MSN 17720 / LN 115) was one out of just two remaining 707-430's in the entire world. The other one (MSN 17713 / LN 169) is in a pretty bad condition sitting at Aero Beach in Uganda. After being originally delivered to BOAC, she flew for quite a few airlines before she was used as the governmental aircraft for Uganda. Uganda Government phased out the aircraft in October 1983 and since then the airframe is sitting on a beach right next to Entebbe International Airport.

    As a aviation lover this is absolutely heart wrenching to see. Just think that airplane flew to that location under its own power only to be cut up I have 13 acres here in N.M. I would love to have that on my property just think I could wake up every morning with a cup of coffee and see a beautiful iconic 707.

    Amazing to see after 60 years how strong it stood against all the hydraulic cutting machines.
    I’m surprised the weather radar was still on it after all these years too.
    Well done on a good video.

    • @AileronAviationFilms

      Thank you! Completely agreed, a pretty sturdy design. Another surprising one for me was how well the bumpers on the main landing gear worked. You can't really see it in the video but they were constantly spreading binder material in the area as there was quite a bit hydraulic oil pouring out of the fuselage. She was in a pretty good condition... ~ Ole ✈️

    A real shame a museum couldn't have stepped in and took on this 707, Being a Rolls Royce Conway powered one it is pretty rare. The sound of that cutter reminds me of a dentist's drill! 😭 A shame an analysis wasn't done on airframe corrosion or lack of being parked up for so many years?

    • @demonblooddrinker7671
      @demonblooddrinker7671 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AreeyaKKC No they didn’t. There were groups that were raising money to move the jet. They wanted rid of it to put a spare 737 there. No effort was made to preserve the jet. It’s not excusable regardless anyway. If it was offered free, many foundations would’ve taken it as it is very easy to move it as it’s a narrow body and all you have to do is take the wings and tail fins off and transport them to a new location.
