    A complete organized library of all my videos, digital slides, pics, & sample pathology reports is available here: kikoxp.com/posts/5084 (dermpath) & kikoxp.com/posts/5083 (bone/soft tissue sarcoma pathology).

    Jerad: I just passed my AP boards by what I can safely assume was a very narrow margin. This lecture alone helped me answer at least 6 items on the test. Let it be known that you have made a HUGE difference here. Thank you.

    Was very nice to see that even 7 years ago a dr new about desmoids.
    Would love you to do a video based on how desmoids effect patients lives. Also would be great to mention the treatments available for desmoids the treatments we avoid and why. Also the difficulty it is for us to find the right treatment and why.

    Thankyou very much! I like the highway analogy with the 100 lanes in describing the spindle cell proliferation. You pretty much clarified what Pathologic Basis of Disease by Robbins was trying to explain.

    If you are a patient (or family member of a patient) suffering from desmoid fibromatosis, you may wish to join the desmoid tumor patient support group on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/thedesmoidian/. I have been volunteering with this group for several years now. It is not a source of official medical advice, but I believe it is a wonderful place for general education and empathy from others who are struggling with this rare disease. The Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation is another great resource: dtrf.org/.

    I had one of these that cropped up a little more than a year after my cesarean with my third child. Oddly enough, I also had a rare syndrome called vasa Previa with the same pregnancy. I’m very lucky that mine didn’t come back after excision and has stayed away, even though my margins weren’t good. Desmoids are so strange, how they grow huge in some people and do nothing in others.

    Thank you so much for sharing! I was recently diagnosed with an anterior Desmoid Tumor after a CT. No phone call it just popped up on MyChart then a notification of a US guided biopsy along with a message that I’ll be contacted by pathology to schedule just to make sure it’s nothing. My original appt was for severe abdominal pain when I brought that up it wasn’t addressed in the MAs reply. Is there anything I can do for the constant stabbing pains?

    What about scattered S100 protein and SOX10 expression?

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scattered usually means background cells. I see scattered s100+ dendritic cells all the time and it doesn’t bother me at all. ‪SOX-10‬ is much cleaner than s100 but it will still stain occasional small spindle cells; I believe these are the Schwann cells of tiny nerve twigs.

    I have an tumor on the left hand. A doctor said that I had a "Sarcoma membrane joints", the second doctor said that I had a "Low grade synovialoma" and the third doctor said that I had a "Desmoide Tumor". So will you advise me which doctor that I have to follow?

    • @JMGardnerMD
      @JMGardnerMD  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't give you official medical advice as I am not your physician. But I will make a few general comments that might help you. I don't use or understand the first two terms you mention so I can't comment on them. Regarding desmoid tumors, they are very rare on the hands or feet, although a related but less locally aggressive tumor called superficial fibromatosis (Dupuytren's contracture) does occur on the hand. Finally, with rare exceptions, the only definitive way to know the diagnosis of a tumor or mass is to have some or all of the tissue (a biopsy or excision) examined under the microscope by a pathologist. Best of luck to you in finding a doctor who will provide you with excellent care!

    I am devastated. My 21 yr old son has a huge desmoid tumor on his tricep. He looks like the Hulk and is in constant severe pain. He was diagnosed April 2015. U of M sarcoma center tried chemo which did nothing. The surgeon said she cannot remove the tumor because it is too entwined in blood vessels ect. He is currently undergoing radiation. Is it too late for a 2nd opinion? Thank you for any advice you can give.

      I'm so sorry to hear this. I cannot give formal medical advice here since I am not your physician. You may find helpful info from this Facebook patient support group for desmoid fibromatosis: facebook.com/groups/thedesmoidian. Although it is not a place for official medical advice either, I believe this group is an excellent source of general information and empathy for patients/families dealing with this rare and often misunderstood disease. The Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation (www.dtrf.org/) is another very useful resource.

      Hi Michelle. Im so sorry to hear this and I hope you and your son are doing good now. Would you mind to tell me about the outcome of your sons desmoid. My mother is currently batteling with a very similiar situation and we are losing hope because the strongest chemo the hospital had to offer (named caelyx) didnt stop its growth. We are localized in Austria.
